I've hiked in the Canadian Rockies with my jaw dropped open in awe. I've sat on the beaches of Costa Rica, inhaling the smells of the jungle right after the rainfall. I've traveled from Europe to Asia—but for all the paths I've traveled, I have never crossed yours. Maybe you were going to show up at Glacier National Park, when I was teaching Skiing at Mt. Bachelor in the Oregon Cascades? I looked for you in Amsterdam, while I sat in the Café Chris, drinking a bakkie. Bittersweet not just in taste, but in actual fact … because you weren't there to share it with me. It's not that my life isn't full. Between family and friends, my work as a Coach, my classes at Fresno State, hiking and mountain biking, I'm happy in my life, especially giving service to others. Also, I play with my Hounds—but what fun it would be to watch them play in the surf as we walk along the beach! I see us hiking together, swimming, going to Yosemite or Big Sur to camp and explore, and discovering out-of-the-way cafes. We'll probably be the last couple to leave, since we're deep into a conversation not about people, but about ideas and philosophies.
