Robbi, whilst on the futility of deceased equine flagellation, we have strict gun laws in the UK; our rights are not infringed, nor are we any of the negative things suggested in your note from not having them.

I had a licence to carry a shotgun and a firearms certificate (our permit for powerful rifles) would have been straightforward had I wanted one. I don't, thank-you.

In case you wonder, I'm not a liberal, nor a coward or fool. I just don't think it appropriate to have them in the home.

Then again, we don't need them here. From my many visits to the USA, I don't think you need them there either. Having said that, I can accept I may have missed something in your argument and the USA isn't my country, so I can't feel about it the way a US national does. Maybe it's a culture thing?

well it is similar here kee....after the massacre at Port Arthur in Tasmanis .....a guy called Martin Bryant walked into the tourist centre and shot down 36 ppl ..including chasing down a man and his two young girls and shooting them as their father tried to shield them ..

we had a gun buy back ppl were given quite reasonable amounts to surrender any guns ...legal or in the case of illegal an amnesty ...and basically you now have to give real cause for having a gun...like work , rural, vet in rural areas, all othe guns are locked up in shooting clubs .

the gun lobby here of course fervently disagered but the ppl of australia demanded gun control ...and they got it !!!!!!!!

It's a matter of culture AND personal preference. Again, it is not the guns that kill people, it is people. Put a gun down and not touch it, no one will get killed from it. It only does what a person wants it to do. Period. Why I feel it is a people problem goes far beyond the intention of this discussion as it is now.

With that statement Pedro, who or what is to blame, the gun or the person? Where does the ultimate responsibility lie?

Both weapons kill. The issue is the murderous intent, matched with weapons, results in murder.

Murderers will always find something to kill with, it doesn't have to be guns or swords.

Spoiled, I don't own a gun, main reason being : I would probably use it when or if I was ever put in a corner.I won't put myself to that test.Using a gun is so impersonal, no physical contact. That could be 1 of the reasons there are so many deaths, injuries etc involving guns.
