The biggest shift in Nascar drivers to come about in years has happened. For any Nascar fans out there......this is huge.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced in May the he would leave Dale Earnhardt Inc. to pursue his career elsewhere. The dispute with his stepmother over control of the company forced Dale to go. Jr. just signed with Hendrick Motorsports. That will make him the teammate of long time rival Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. Kyle Busch is now the free agent on the market since Hendrick is cutting him loose to make room for Earnhardt.
I believe that this is all around a great move by all.......
I think it's a shame that Jr. had to leave a company started by his father, for his son's because the step mother won't give it up. She still has a couple of good drivers, but to give up the biggest name in racing is stupid in my book. Although Jr. is the highest paid driver in Nascar, 20.1 million a year.....his name is worth every penny......
2008 should prove to be interesting....

I think he made the right move too.. I think at some point that a few might follow him there.. I think theresa is selfish an has no idea what she did, but then it was time for him to go on his own an show her what he is made of an that he is his fathers son! Its going to skake a few things thats for sure.. im looking forward to it!

I like NASCAR also....I was a big Fan of IROC when they used the Chevy Camaro. I owned one, street legal of course but that car could handle.....
Robbie, I know your an old hommie of the area...do you remember at the base of the Ben Franklin Bridge coming into Philly, where there is that hair pin turn that goes under the bridge ? It's right there at 5th street and across from where McGarry's pawn shop used to be (they moved).
Well, anyway, its about a 10 mph turn as it wraps around under the bridge, I used to take it at approx 45-50 with that Iroc Z. Only thing , it rode like a damned truck..bump..bump...bump.
One of the tracks near here, you can rent track time if you own a high performance car like a vette of the new Mustang. MUSTANGS RULES.....HEHE

like it was any surprise that jr would go to hendricks, i know many said that rick wouldnt dump one of his drivers for jr but i knew all along for a driver like jr he would, shrubbys contract negotiations problems were not coincidental. i however have no emotional stake in who jr drives for, i have and will continue to be a Yates fan, no one can build engines like he can, proved once again tody that ford engines and ford cars dominate michigan, that is there track.

It's just more of a reason to hate Hendrick Motorsports. I can't see this whole thing working out. It may go ok for a couple of years but having two stars like Gordon and Earnhardt on one team is going to be rough. Both have big egos that will have to be put aside to work together.

Hope all is well with you.....been a long time since we talked.......
Jimmy is still a punk by the way.....Mark is still the man, even driving a Chevy.....
Big John.....either it won't work out, OR Hendricks will dominate even more than they already do........Jimmy, Dale and Jeff all in the same barn......They could dominate for years before anyone catches them......

even a fat monkey called Hunter would drive those nascar's ridiculous cars. even these silly Americans take nascar seriously when we the rest of the world do NOT give a shite, lol
you know, driving on an oval, always the same shite, and people attending as if they were watching real men, lmao
to see real me driving real and fast cars, what you have to do is to watch Formula One. do you get it fat a$$?
by the way, yes proper football requires a ball, that is why it is the best sport in the world (come here to Europe to see the Premier, etc) and not your silly NFL with players wearing licra, helmets and pads

Go Marcus Ambrose (Aussie) in Nascar.
I don't get alot of info on him here but I used to follow him avidly when he raced in the aussie v8 series being v8 supercars .. www.v8supercars.com.au
I have lost touch with him racing wise since he shifted too nascar trucks then cars in the states.
hotfootballer .. want fast cars .. top fueller dragsters .. quickest cars on the planet, they make f1 look slow by comparison, ok it might be a entirely different motor sports event but end of the day their number 1 for speed overall.

f1 is a good motor sport .. but each unto their own, the good thing about each respective motor sport is it brings about diverse perspectives and opinions and if there was only the 1 genre of motor sport it would get dull quick

at TCK,
the word 'shite' means 'shit', is it not strange that one American receives English lessons from one Spaniard whose first language is Spanish? it should be the opposite, but the world is full of funny surprises, lol
'shite' instead of 'shit' is used in Britain by almost everyone!

so Spain is not a real country? WOW!
this comment coming from someone who comes from USA, which is a f.ucking and coward country full of silly and coward people hidden behind coward politicians.
and let's not forget USA is only 200 years old more or less.
had it not been for the Spaniards who discovered the New World, North America would be full of illiterate indians climbing trees searching for coconuts or killing some dumb buffalo, lmao
hear me you idiot! any country of Europe has had and still has more 'balls' than yours!
by the way, 'shite' is a correct word and it is included in the OED (Oxford English Dictionary)

Texas = 261,797 sq mi
Why don't you guys come over and take over Texas.....it would more than double the size of your piddly ass country and you would be relieving the US of the majority of our immigration problem. Then ya'll could speak Spanish or Mexican or whatever it is you speak. If you can talk your country into it.....we'll throw in California for free. Then you can claim Arnold as your King......

me wishing to be British? that was funny, thanks for the laugh. it appears some you are good at making people laugh, lol
i am proud to be a Spaniard, Britain is far from me so no thanks!
and as for Spanish language, well it is a language spoken by more than 400 millions of people around the world (40 millions in USA) there is NOT any language called 'Mexican' as it is Spanish with their own dialects and accents.
finally, people like TCK, Captain's shiny pate, fat's Hunter are those who give a bad name to USA, i mean, USA may be a good country, but these people are really idiots, as if throwing rubbish into their own bin (USA)

I actually agreed with hot to a point, until this last post. I would disagree with him, that it's people like TCK, Cap and certainly Hunter that make this country great. People of diverse backgrounds, interests, that's what makes a relatively young country so amazing....and the fact that we can state how we feel, without fear of retribution....they don't give the USA a bad name, they make it great.

Bush does not have balls to face China, Russia or North Korea, lol even if those countries also support terrorism in many ways.
you are one of those american idiots waving a flag outside your home, showing that silly patriotism which makes us Europeans laugh, lol
another thing which makes us laugh is you continue building wooden houses, even if tornadoes destroy them all, above all in the Midwest. why do you not build strong houses with concrete, etc? instead of those strange wooden ones which get destroyed after a simple fly has flown around, lmao

yeah we bought our tickets online through ticketmaster, better get em quick though.just go to lvms.com.
hard for me to fell anything for harvick. many many times he has spun some one out to win a race or even just ta get a better position. montoya may be agresive but it wasnt even his fault, he got bumped from behind wich put him into harvick. adn sorry but anytime gordon losses a race i am a happy man. i am and always will be a ford man. and i will continue to support robert yates, or should i say Yates, Newman, Hass, Lanigan racing.

It's really looking like Hendricks is dominate. I would quess Jeff Gordon is going to take it. That's ok, they've earned it. I'm hoping that Rousch still comes back with a better program next year. Of course putting Junior in a Hendricks car along with Jimmy and Jeff......wow, they are gonna be strong. And now my favorite driver is with DEI......whom I don't care for much....friggin Theresa...!!!
Anyway.....see ya in Vegas.......LOL

Well....Jules was telling me that our tickets are good for the entire weekend, Busch Race and Friday nights practice. But, we have been told that Saturday is the day to shop at the track if you want anything, so we may just do that. We've got a Lucky Seven parking pass for the weekend, so that should make getting in and out alot easier. We'll drive all day Friday and leave Monday morning.....so we'll definitely have time to hook up, even if it's at the track......

There used to be a series for them it was called Trans Am. It was real popular in the 80's but don't see much of it anymore. NASCAR could very well run a series like this but if they would I think it would have to be very tight on rules. Probably be a true "stock" car series meaning no mods other than safety. Problem with that is thing like traction control,anti-lock brakes,HEMI engines, aero problems between the different makes.

i understand Johnson being excited and all for winnin the championship, but i thought it was classless for him to pull up along side Kenseth and do a burn out as well. he was just tryin to steal all the glory for himself.

Iwas predicting this at about the 6th race into the season. I said that NASCAR is only going to let a Hendrick car win the championship. Both the 48 and 24 teams are some serious cheatin bastards. I know people who work on other teams and have info about this. Like illegal mods to the skirts on the COTs driven at Bristol.

Ya know what sucks about the 2008 season? By default I have to be a Dale jr. fan. Only reason he is now sponsored by the National Guard.

Again Hot footballet takes an American thing and bitches about it....I suppose it doesnt rank with taking an animal and putting it in a ring where its destiny is to be cruely ****ed with but hey, Bullfighting is a Spanish thing and I'd ;ove to see you out there with your cape Pedro.
I'm not big into NASCAR although I'll drop inand watch a few 20 laps or so coz I'm more into Drag Racing.
Robbie, do you folks have a big following like we do back here....I know you must remember how popular Atco Raceway is.
I took my Ex's son to see the Funny Cars. OMG I cant believe in top fuel they doing 4.88 seconds in the quarter. When I was a youn guy, 200 MPH was extreme, now its over 300 in top fuel and dragsters.
One thing I did notice last time I was at Atco was just how many women love to race Bikes nowadays. Nothing like watching a nice feminine bottom on a motorcycle. It gets my juices flowing for sure.

Scorp, the following for NASCAR in the west will never be what it is in the east I don't think. There's quite a few, but, we're so spread out and the Carolina's and east coast have all the history there.........
Oh the memories at Atco.......wow, haven't thought about that place for a longggggggggg time.
Leaving in eight days for Vegas!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, I'm more than ready.......!!!!

Well NASCAR and all those old Moonshine race cars have a history here.
I used to religiously watch Indy Car Racing and the 24 Hours of Le Mans is cool also. Have a great time In Vegas.
Hey, do you recall an incident at Watkins Glen many yrs ago when a car came apart and the dam motor went down the road and killed a camera man?
Good Luck with your new career also. I might email you about what it all entails...its house inspection right? I was womdering what kind of testing you need? Did you have to get a black seal lic?
I should be finished with this house by springtime, then I might just go back down to the shore. If not, I might go into Philly but its so expensive there. I like Olde City. Up in North Philly near Port Richmond is still tolerable
That is something I was considering or, even Township Inspector but its so hard to break through the nepotism here.

what a weekend. and both those races were just awsome. needed a nice break from the job as well. it was a long drive, got blisters on my feet and got a slight sunburn on sunday at the track but it was all well worth it.watching Carl Edwards, one of my drivers win the race was sweet. thats two in a row for him. and i finnaly got to meet Robbi. didnt get ta really hang out but thats ok, him and Jules were doing the vegas thing and me and mike were sight seeing. dont know about Robbi and Jules but me and mike will be back next year.and next year me and mike are gonna take my travel trailer down and stay at the track plus take a couple more days off for some more sight seeing and were gonna get pit passes and passes to the neon garage.WHAT A WEEKEND!!!!!

Hey Rep......was good to at least meet you, even if we didn't have the time to hang out for a while. It was a whirl wind weekend kinda.......and was fantastic. Great Race on Sunday!!! and the controversy continues over Carl Edwards' win. NASCAR has only once in history taken a win away from someone, but I think Carl and the boys will be fined and the Bob Osborn will be suspended.
We will definitely be back next year! We already have the tickets lined up and I think we'll add a couple of days to our trip also. Jules is now officially a NASCAR fan and I don't think I could keep her away from going back to Vegas......LOL.

The lady we bought our tickets from said she got her renewal and she called trying to get the two spare tickets she has into our name so in the future we will have the same seats every year. Problem is, those two tickets aren't together in the blue section, so we may have to settle for the red in order to get them together. We'll see how it works out, but, we'll have seats within the month I believe.......

We heard from the lady about our tickets.....we now have Vegas tickets every year for as long as we want them. Blue Section, Row 40, seats 3 and 4. One row down from where we sat last year and two seats over........that was great news!!! So if there is a year we don't want to go....I'll let you know and you could buy em if ya want.....

yeah we got the same tickets as last year, got the automatic renewal.
to much controversy with Jr's win during that last caution on a few occasions he sped up past the pace car which is a violation of the rules. but nascar never said anything to him or his crew chief. this raises even more question about Jr being nascars new pet.

The Brickyard was quite disappointing with a series of 12 lap heat races. I think the outcome would have been different if they coulda raced.
We've got our tickets, and we're looking for motel reservations now. Where are you staying? We're gonna be someplace different this year, we weren't impressed with the Gold Coast for what we paid.

unfortunately the IRL has been on the decline for many many years. what really killed them was there lack of fan interaction by not only the IRL but its drivers as well. plus they did not promote them selfs like they should have, the final nail in there coffin is when they split and formed two leagues, the IRL and champ car.

Kyle is doing just fine....and in my opinion, Gibbs is doing just fine. He didn't play a part in the accelerator blocks placed in the 20 and 18 cars. In fact, Kyle woulda won since then.
Rep, that bump and run had to be the move of the year. And the best part of it was Carl in his interview, saying "let me make this clear, I'm not apologizing for it". LOL.......was a great moment and good to see Rousch back in the mix.
Gonna be a great Chase and actually this week at Richmond is going to be one of the most awesome races we've seen because from 8th to 15th can change at anytime......

the chase will be interesting, would love to see david reagan have a great race and get in but gonna be tough, bowyer has been strong lately. just as long as a hendrix driver doesnt win the chase.

Well, the first of the "chase races" is over and a surprise to all, Greg Biffle jumped up and claimed it.....awesome. Rousch/Fenway is hanging right in there. 1st and 3rd this week. Junior can't catch a break....the best car by far, then a bad set of tires put him back. Finished fifth, so he's still in the chase and well within points. Kyle was probably the biggest surprise with all the problems he had. Was a terrible day for him......that breaks everyones heart.....lol.
Jump, I'm sure you were glued to the tv....how'd you like it.....lol

What a finish in the third chase race. Would've loved to be there. Only thing better woulda been Carl winning the race.....Once again, Jr. couldn't pull it together and is getting buried in the points race. Kyle's hopes are smashed. No championship for the kid this year. Still 7 to go and alot of point swapping is possible.......stay tuned.......

Although I'm amazed at the engineering in the F1 cars and the finess in which the drivers show their skills.......I like the bang em up of NASCAR. Nothing like a bunch of redneck tempers in cars going 200 mph...

"Nothing like a bunch of redneck tempers in cars going 200 mph..."
That is such cool way to sum that up!
Who wouldn't want to watch a NASCAR race after being told that!
I've only seen one NASCAR race and it was on a road racing track for Indy cars.
What a difference between listening to cars that sound like a bunch of bees on steroids going around a track in an F1 race and the deafening sound of a NASCAR race.
I've only seen it live once and on tv a couple of times, but it's not just the drafting, it's the "rubbing" with what appears to be the intention of bumping someone out of a race. I assume that's legal in the race?

its called a bump and run, if there is a slower car in front of you and it wont move ya bump his rear end, gets him a little squirly he slows down a little then ya go right around him.

Hell Rep, that sounds like driving here. We do that to all of the slow drivers.. esp. the ones that have bumper stickers on their cars that say "Don't shoot, I'll pull over".
I like that sticker.. makes it easier to identify the next bump and run target....

What a race at the wild card, Dega......good from beginning to end.....Sad day for alot of chasers due to Carl's screw up......Good to see Tony win one this year, but woulda rather seen NASCAR give it to Regan Smith......and definitely disagree with them placing him 18th......

On to Martinville where pushing, banging and wall hugging are the norm. Who's gonna stay out of trouble there and bring it home......With five races left.....any of the top five in points could pull this thing out.......

That's pretty much my opinion ^......would rather see a Rousch driver, but......Burton would be the next choice.......
Now next year I have to get my head around the fact that my 'favorite' driver of all times will be in a Hendricks car.....Martin will be full time in the #5 car, so that'll confuse the lines for me some.......lol

You must be refering to Bob the nascar dog.
He'll wipe up the field with his 200 cu in" 40 hp, 4 cyl L-block.
He's a Ford man..., dog, too.

The chase is getting interesting......just when you thought no one could touch Johnson and his third straight year......up pops Carl Edwards.....
It'll still take a lot of luck for Edwards (actually bad luck for Johnson) to change the championship in the last two races, however, he's got about as much chance as McCain does........Anything can happen......

Do you believe in miracles?? That's about what it'll take for Jimmy Johnson to lose his third consecutive title. Congrats to Jimmy for setting history and tying Cale Yarborough.........
Next week will still be a race to watch for 2 through 12......

Well, another year in the books and history was made. In sixty years of NASCAR Jimmie Johnson was only the second driver to take the championship in three consecutive years. And Chad Knaus his crew chief was the first ever crew chief to take three consecutive titles. Congrats to Jimmie and his team. They deserve it as they outperformed everyone else.
Carl Edwards didn't quit though.......he set a new record for races won during the year, 9 victories. And had Jimmie broken down or crashed, Carl would've won the title. He finished a remarkable 2nd in the Nationwide series and 2nd in the Sprint Cup series.
Next year will bring new challenges as race teams join forces and the economy reaks havoc with the sport........February in Daytona........see ya there.......

you spend THAT kind of money at a steak house than at LEAST go to "Ruth's Chris Steak House" for the best steak in the WORLD (and yes, there are TWO in Vegas)
or for the close second (or maybe even a tie) go to... Morton's Steakhouse (they also have one in Vegas)

depends on the track and who owns it, so far only those tracks owned by the France family are lowing there prices but only a few of the. merchandise is different, most merchandise boths are owned by the team, nascar has no say so in those.

Petty said once " I won some (Daytona 500's) I shoulda lost, I lost some I shoulda won." Though it was nice to see Jack Roush finally get a Daytona 500 trophy for his team. Only I too Robbie, wish it had been Mark, maybe still driving for Jack.

YeeeeeeeeeeeHawwwwwwwwwww......Nothing like a few days in Vegas and getting to see a race to boot!!!! Vegas is one helluva town! It's the city of Boobs!!! And on NASCAR weekend it's the city of Red Necks!! In this particular case that's not synonymous.....LOL
Great to see you again Rep and great to meet your wife finally. Cimm, it was definitely a pleasure to meet you and get some time to talk face to face for a change.
My sister is starting to look for packages next year already, they are going to get the same tickets for the race, but we want to stay down the strip further, like Bally's or Bill's Gambling Hall.....so we'll see.

Hey Rep and Robbi!
I'm glad you made it home safe Repster.
Likewise, it was most excellent to finally meet the two of you. I had a great time and I'm definitely in for next year hanging with the rednecks. Actually, I have a red neck right now!
And I'm looking forward to sitting down more than once for a cup of coffee with you Robbi!

I was born in Virginia, close to Martinsville. And grew up in South Carolina, 18 miles from Darlinton Raceway. I like to tell people "I was NASCAR before NASCAR was cool", Robbie. First race, 1964 Southern 500. Buck Baker, (Buddy's Dad) won.

robbi, cimm you may be coming to a wedding next year. me and Raenee talked on the way home we are gonna try to plan to renew our vows next year in victory lane on qualifying dayand it will be a Roush racing theme. she is gonna wear a dress that looks like a checkard flag or a pink dress with the 99 on it, i will be wearing a matt kenseth driver suit and every one else will be wearing t-shirts of the roush drivers. she will do this if i promise to marry her in a themed wedding on the strip some where.and tell jules this will be a ROUSH wedding, no jr stuff allowed, after all she will probably be Raenee's maid of honor

That sounds like fun, Hunter. We definitely need to plan for that then. That's something I know we both will enjoy, especially when it's a gathering of folks we've "mingled" with throughout the years. I'll let the boss know

Robbi, did he ever tell you the story about how we went searching for Rusty Wallace out in Watkins? Was so much fun... we never found him, but we made a day out of it. It was like a scavenger hunt.

hey Robbi, hows the white tail hunting around yer area? we got no white tail hunting here and depending on what tags and license cost i wouldnt mind coming out there for a week and seeing if i cant get a nice buck.

There's plenty of them around. Of course private land is the best, but there is plenty of good whitetails. I don't know the cost for out of state but can check on it. I saw some nice bucks taken last year. The first week of season will be the best for whitetails.....after that is hard to get a vehicle within a mile of em. We've got plenty of room for ya to stay so that's not a problem.

What? You guys are shooting at race cars now ? Elmer Fudd would be proud. :o) Me and BTO would consider Vegas for next Feb. but I doubt we would attend the race but instead attend a boxing match on the same weekend and meet up with the motor heads afterwards. Shortest distance would be you Swamp......and I'm not too proud of how my deer turned out this year......will be the last time I go to that butcher shop.......sausage isn't terrible but the rest has a strong liver taste.....mule deer, but still it's grain fed.
Sounds like we could make something out of this Vegas trip.....Come one, come all.....once NASCAR releases the schedule we'll know more......dates and such.

For me, it was less of a Mingles gathering and more like going to see a race with some friends and fellow race car fans.
And I have to say, I had a great time!!!
Seriously, you couldn't meet anybody more down to earth and nice then Rep and Robbi and their wives.
I put a small album up with a video (my first to shoot, so it's a bit choppy) that kind of gives you an idea of just how fast NASCAR cars blow past you and how loud they sound. Also, I think that one of my pics is the same as Reps.
http://s612.photobucket.com/albums/tt208/Velocity_mj/
What I liked about NASCAR over F1 and Indy live, is that if you get the right seats, you can see the whole race. In F1, when the cars lap past in a different position then the previous lap, you wonder what happened.
But even after seeing this race and watching the flames come shooting out of the exhausts when the cars were being down shifted into the turns, I definitely want to go see Daytona or Talladega, with the high banked turns. That's got to be amazing watching 3400 lb cars doing 200 miles an hour drafting each other into the turns.

Ahhhhhhhh, the video was good.......put me right back in my seat at the race for a few seconds.......

Talledega is the 26th of April Cimm......on Fox......it'll give you an idea of what it's like, although, as you know, it's nothing like being there and smelling the fuel, the rubber and hearing that deafening noise.......
But, after this weeks break, back to racing at Bristol.....crash and bang, push and shove track.....A whole different type of racing on a 1/2 mile track.
Vegas get together = Redneck Roundup.....LOL.....gotta love it!!!

I very much agree Cimm.......that's exactly what it seemed like. Weird that because of this site people really are friends and don't really realize it until they meet. I've met Jerry before, but when you showed up it was like seeing a brother or cousin that you haven't seen for years and all ya had to do was catch up on what's going on in life now. Really cool and was a great time had by all I believe.....at least Jules and I did........

I hope you do also.....we're talking about going down on Friday and staying til Tuesday. In case of a rain out the race is held Monday and like fools we had our flight out scheduled for Monday morning. So, to avoid a hassle we're going a day later and staying a day later......Only reason we like to be there Thursday is because the drivers make appearances around town on Thursday.....but, as it turned out there wasn't anyone we wanted to see this year......

The newspapers here (India-Mumbai) are full of stories about Mahindra Tractors sponsering car in the Nationwide Series at Bristol (finished 31, I believe) and sponsering a Cup Team next year. I don't know if thats what Big Bill France had in mind. But it looks like with Toyota and now India and Nextel, it is becoming truely international and not just regional or national. Just hope they (NASCAR) remember their roots.

Yeah Shop.....it's spreading far and wide. There are a few cars this year without sponsorship and won't continue the rest of the season without someone stepping up with cash. So I'm sure that money, whereever it comes from is welcome. I'm disappointed that NASCAR has become a money game, but, that's the society we live in and nothing is exempt I suppose. And I too hope they remember their roots.

Hey Robbi and Rep, I just finished watch in Truth in 24.
You can download it for free in iTunes. They have it in HD at it's awesome to look at.
It's an hour and a half documentary and I know that you two will like it. Racing is racing, whether it's go carts, NASCAR, Indy or F1, because it's not just about the fastest car or who has the best drivers. It's about the whole team and the strategy of the engineers. Esp. at Le Mans!
And there is one very spectacular wreck, where a Formula C car, for no apparent reason loses control on a straight and just comes off of the road, nearly taking out the car in front as it enters a chicane.
Great fun!

Ya know Swamp.......I think so too actually and in days past that woulda just been another day at the track with emotions running high and tempers flaring. All the things that make racing what it is. But, NASCAR has been tough on this stuff for the last few years. Now I did read a story about NASCAR backing off the drivers for emotional flare ups as long as it doesn't endanger anybody, which Dale didn't. BUT, this is the first time I've seen no action taken and it just happens to be Jr? lol.....

Earnhardt, Mears placed on probation for PIR incident
By Official Release
April 21, 2009
05:09 PM EDT
type size: + -DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Tuesday that it has placed Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Casey Mears on probation for the next six races in the Sprint Cup Series, as a result of their on-track incident last Saturday at the conclusion of the race at Phoenix International Raceway.
Earnhardt, driver of the No. 88 car, and Mears, driver of the No. 07 car, both violated Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock-car racing; hitting another competitor's car after the race had concluded) of the 2009 NASCAR rule book.
The probation takes effect beginning with this weekend's event at Talladega Superspeedway.

I see politics getting into racing now, that was no more of a bump and run, besides I'd like to see more fender benders and tempers fly, makes it all part of the sport, plus exciting for the fans too.

Quite the race and the finish was spectacular for sure. NASCAR has got to do more work on the new car. Airborne is not where they should be.....yesterday and today both, cars were flying through the air. Thought Jr. might pull one off......but, congratulations to Brad Keslowski......first win in Sprint Cup and he did fair and square as Carl would tell you. I see a couple of changes coming up due to the wrecks in the last couple days.
On another good note.....Kyle got spun out of the lead and went to the back of the pack. Was good to see Newman get a good finish for Stewart/Haas racing.
I'm hoping the fans that got injured are ok......sounds like a few broken bones and one lady with a broken jaw.......Thank God that fence held....
Mark moved back to 18th in points which is not out of the chase just yet. He needs to get some consistant top 5 finishes though in the next 10 races or so.....

Hey Robbi!
Yep I saw the last half of it.
1st. At LV. there wasn't any of the 2 car drafting/pushing that I saw in the Talladega race.
So that was super interesting!
To me, it looked like the cars were teaming up. I don't understand it, so maybe when and if you have a chance you can shoot me an email to explain what that's all about. Obviously it's strategy and I assume, that the car that's drafting has the advantage but I'm not understanding the "pushing" aspect of it.
But the finish! Whoa.. Swamper said it!
2nd. I thought those cars were too heavy to go air born! Edward's car reminded me of F1 and Indy in the 60's 70's and 80's and that still happens in Class C at Le Mans .
It was good to see him get out and cross the finish line. i hope those people in the crowd are okay.
Still, I've got to read more up on the cars and understand what's up with the aerodynamics on them.
I have to go see Talledaga or Daytona. I have to see the speed! Have to!

This is what I found on google/wikipedia on the drafting. It of course explains the basics of it which we've talked about before. As far as "teaming up" the drivers watch throughout the race for other cars that have the capability of good drafting. Although the cars are the same basically, one may have a handling problem that doesn't allow good drafting. At Talladega Kyle Busch dropped all the way back to the end of the pack and then drove back up through just to see how is car handled and to pick up other cars and check the drafting prospects. During the race you saw many lead changes, because guys hooked up and went to the front, then someone else would do the same. The fight for the lead never comes until the very end, probably two laps and often on the last lap because if you take the lead to early you become the sitting duck. Once you find someone to draft with you have your spotter talk to the other guys spotter and work out the details, who's pushing, whose leading and that works until the last half lap when guys start making their move for the win like Kesolowski did at Dega. With the old type car they use to get a "freight train" of 5-6 cars and draft to the front, however with the aerodynamics of the new car it appears that two cars work better together as we saw in the race. It's all got to do with downforce and it seems if the line is too long no one in the middle has enough downforce on the front and back so they get loose. These cars are new and the teams are still trying to figure them out. It's just like the side force on these cars is alot worse than the old ones. But, in the name of safety, these cars are better. Anyway, although there are teammates out there they are not always who you team up with to draft because of what I said above. Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt love to team up together. Similar driving styles and trust is what it comes down to I suppose. At Dega, Earnhardt made a deal with Ryan Newman's teams at the end. Earnhardt said he'd push Newman and the two of them could leave the rest of the field. He felt no one could touch them. But, Keslowski and Edwards got a great run and used the middle of the track which was a faster groove all day and they were able to go 5-6 mph faster up there. Nothing Earnhardt could do except jump up in front of them, but, that could be disasterous. One, he could cause a big wreck, or two, he could lose his momentum and lose 6-7-8 positions real fast.
Anyway, I hope some of this helped. Just give me a yell if there is anything specific you want to know.
Robbi
[edit] Drafting in motorsport
[edit] Open-wheel racing
In single seater, open wheel racing series such as Formula One and the IndyCar Series, a technique known as slipstreaming is used. Along a long straight, a car following close behind another uses the slipstream created by the lead car to close the gap between them, hoping to be able to overtake the leader under braking for the next corner, or, if he has a straightline speed advantage, to pass on the straight. However, it is very difficult for cars to follow each other in close proximity in fast corners as the "dirty" (turbulent) air that comes off the lead car unbalances the trailing car as its aerodynamic devices provide less grip. However, on the straight this effect is much less of a detriment due to the lower levels of grip required.
[edit] Stock car racing
On the faster speedways and superspeedways used by NASCAR, ARCA, and the IROC series, two or more vehicles can race faster when lined up front-to-rear than a single car can race alone. The low-pressure wake behind a group's leading car reduces the aerodynamic resistance on the front of the trailing car, allowing the second car to pull closer. As the second car nears the first, it pushes high-pressure air forward so less fast-moving air hits the lead car's spoiler. The result is less drag for both cars, allowing faster speeds. [3]
Handling in corners is affected by balance changes caused by the draft: The leading car has normal front downforce but less rear downforce. The trailing car has less front downforce but normal rear downforce. A car with drafting partners both ahead and behind will lose downforce at both ends. [3]
The "slingshot pass" is the most dramatic and widely noted maneuver associated with drafting. A trailing car (perhaps pushed by a line of drafting cars) uses the lead car's wake to pull up with maximum momentum at the end of a straightaway, enters a turn high, and turns down across the lead car's wake. The combination of running downhill and running across the zone of lowest aerodynamic drag allows the trailing car to carry extra speed and pass on the inside of leader. [3]
Drafting was discovered by stock car racers in the 1959 Daytona 500. Drivers found they picked up speed running closely behind other cars, and as they experimented they found that a line of cars could sustain higher speeds than a single car running by itself. [3]
Drafting is most important at Talladega Superspeedway and Daytona International Speedway where a restrictor plate is used, making much less power available to push the large bodies through the air. Race cars reach their highest speeds on these superspeedways, so the aerodynamic forces are highest, and the effects of drafting are strongest. Since restrictor plates were first used as a safety device, their effect has changed the nature of drafting. Vehicles no longer have sufficient horsepower to maintain their drafting speeds upon exiting the draft. This negates the slingshot maneuver. As a result, passing is often the result of cooperation between two or more drivers.
[edit] Bump drafting
Bump drafting is a tactic used in NASCAR races at Talladega Superspeedway and Daytona International Speedway. The technique was initially popularized by the Archer Brothers in the SCCA Sportruck series during the late 1980s.[4] It begins as normal drafting, but the following car pulls up behind the lead car and bumps into the rear of it, pushing the lead car ahead, to maintain momentum.
If done roughly or in the wrong position (e.g. close to the entry of the turn), this tactic can destabilize the handling of the lead car sometimes causing a crash. Use of the tactic in this manner is known as slam drafting. Due to the danger, NASCAR has attempted to limit the bracing on bumpers on cars, disallowed bump drafting in turns, introduced "no bump zones" on certain portions of speedways where this practice is prevalent, and penalized drivers who are too rough in bump drafting.[5][6]

Robbie, I just tried to read a story on msn-sports by Darrell Waltrip, saying he thinks Kyle will eventually beat Richard's 200 win record. But my signal wouldn't let me finish the story or get the link. Something about "out of memory at line 56" You might be able to get to it. I always figured that (record) to be out of reach with the modern era of a shorter schedule. He(Richard) won most of his when the schedule had 60 plus races a year. I believe he won 27 in 1967. They would race three times in a week and just change plugs and tires. 1 Ton car haulers. LOL And with the competition/money today it's harder to stay on top longer. Year in and year out. Wish I could get the story, Darrell is not an idiot and was a great driver. I booed him most of the time. Jaws! LOL But I wouldn't take what he says lightly.

My new racing photo shows me preparing to "bump draft" the Model A in front of me.
My powerful 40HP engine tore up the track with speeds in excess of 45 MPH, certainly setting a new "Milwaukee Mile" track record!
Look for me in Vegas next year. Kyle has nothing on me! *l*

Updated: May 5, 2009, 1:15 PM EST 1594 comments Well folks, Kyle Busch was certainly a rich man Saturday night at Richmond. He was the birthday boy, too, celebrating his 24th that same night. He's pretty much got the NASCAR world wrapped around his finger right now. To get a big win like that on your birthday ... well, I just don't know if it gets any better than that.
In my mind, it's phenomenal what we are seeing from Rowdy Busch right now. You simply have to give the guy his due. I appreciate talent: I saw Dale Earnhardt when he was at his best; I saw Richard Petty, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison and Jeff Gordon all when they were at their best. I raced against them when they were at their best, so trust me when I say I know talent.
I have to tell you, though: None of them were as good as Kyle.
The question now being asked is if he can win 200 races. He can. He has said that's the goal he wants to accomplish in his NASCAR career, winning 200 combined races in Cup, Nationwide and the Camping World Truck series.
Back in the day, when Richard was winning all those races, he really was doing the same thing. When the series would go on the northern tour for a couple of weeks, they would run something like 14 races both on dirt and on asphalt on little half-mile tracks. They would run 100- to 150-mile races.
Now folks, this isn't a knock on The King, but Kyle winning the kind of races he is right now is more impressive to me than what anybody has done. Compare the quality of Kyle's wins to the quality of everybody else's from the past, and his are far and away a lot more impressive.
How long can he keep this up? Well, he just turned 24, so he could easily drive 25 more years if he wanted to. There's an opportunity here for him to set a lot of records money, wins and championships. I am just glad I am around to see this.
I will say this again, back in the late '70s and early '80s when Dale Sr. was still a little rough around the edges, I would have paid to see that man race. Now, some 30 years later, I say the same thing about this phenomenon we call Kyle Busch. If Kyle were here in Nashville and going to race at the Fairgrounds, you bet I would buy a ticket to watch him. He's just that impressive and again, he's just that good.
As good as Kyle was Saturday night, there was a point in the race where I felt he was only a fifth- or sixth-place car. Brian Vickers was out front for a little bit, and then Jeff Gordon took over. I really thought Jeff had the car to beat, but then here came Denny Hamlin plus, I think Jeff's pit strategy hurt him. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that if Denny were to get the lead, he could take home the checkered flag, but then he had trouble in the pits.
Saturday night also showed how tough this ol 'car really is. Jeff Burton, Mark Martin and Jamie McMurray, for example, all spun out and got in wrecks. Marcos Ambrose had the whole back part of his car knocked off and he still finished 11th. This ol' car is tough, and it sure showed us that Saturday night.
But see, here's the thing that is most striking to me about Kyle: He simply refuses to lose. He never gives up. Kyle loves to win, but he hates to lose even more. Saturday night proved that once again. Joe Gibbs Racing and his crew chief, Steve Addington, are giving him the right equipment and support in the Cup and Nationwide series. Over in the Truck Series, Billy Ballew and his group are doing the same.
He's simply on the right teams at the right time to get the kind of results we are seeing. So enough about that, but guess who the defending champion of this Saturday's race is? That's right: Kyle Busch. Last year, he bounced that ol' car off the Lady in Black all night long and came home a winner. The safe money bet this weekend is easily Kyle.
Around the field
With that said, Busch is going to have to beat the master at Darlington and to me, that is Jeff Gordon. Jeff's stats there are really impressive. His average starting spot is 6.9, and his finishing spot average is 11.5. That's really amazing when you consider how many races he has run there since 1993. Jeff understands, for instance, that this Saturday night it's a 500-mile race. So if Kyle's going to win, he's going to have to beat Jeff. Tony Stewart runs well there, as does Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Speaking of Dale Jr., I have a real fear that he isn't going to make the 2009 NASCAR Chase. I felt like we were in a stretch where he had to do really well to get himself inside the top 12 and maybe have a chance to run for the championship. He had to finish well at Richmond Saturday night, but he didn't. If he falters in any of these next few races, I am afraid he and the No. 88 team will miss this year's Chase.
I really think the folks in the top 12 right now are the ones we will see still there come Richmond in September. Both David Reutimann and Kasey Kahne have dropped out of the top 12, so I think the Chase is set. That belief is just based on performance. Unless there's someone just outside the top 12 that gets really hot, I think our 12 is already set.
There are two teams that have been really impressive so far: Penske Racing and Stewart-Haas. The Penske camp has made huge strides across the board since last year. They are now performing at a very high level. Kurt is 10 points out of the points lead. But the bigger indicator of Penske Racing turning the corner, at least to me, is how much better Sam Hornish Jr. and David Stremme are running.
Measuring Up
How does Stewart-Haas Racing compare to NASCAR's top organizations so far?
Team Cars Wins Top fives Top 10s
SHR Two 0 6 11
Hendrick Four 3 12 21
Gibbs Three 3 6 9
Roush Five 2 7 16
Childress Four 0 7 12
Folks used to question whether Sam could make it in the Cup series or whether he needed to go back to IndyCar racing. It's now clear to me that it was the equipment holding that team back more so than Sam. Now the Penske cars are running well. They added a bunch of new people over there, and the setups they are giving the drivers are really paying off. I don't think Sam's ready to win a race yet, but if he continues to improve like he has this season ... well, I think a Cup win could be in Sam's future.
Over at Stewart-Haas Racing, what they are doing is incredible, too. I never really worried about Tony knowing his talent, the people around him and that he had Darian Grubb as his crew chief, I was pretty sure Tony would be fine. I was more worried about Ryan Newman coming over there, and he and Tony Gibson getting on the same page. When the season started, they seemed to be snake-bit from the start. Now, these last few weeks, he and his crew chief have gotten things ironed out, and man are they hitting on all cylinders right now. Ryan's now climbed into the top 12 in points. From where they started the year to where they are now folks, that's impressive. Ryan Newman is a great driver, and I totally believe a win is just around the corner for him. I just see an incredibly bright future for that whole Stewart-Haas group.

Everything I know, I learned from Robbi. If he would have posted the lessons a day earlier, I could have won the Milwaukee Mile last Sunday.
Hey, did you guys know...
"The Milwaukee Mile continues to be one of Americas premier, tradition-laden auto racing venues. Motorized racing events date back to 1903, a full eight years before the first Indianapolis 500, making The Mile the oldest, continually operating motor speedway in the country."
Rumor has it, that Robbi attended the first race there.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia police are investigating after former NASCAR driver Kevin Grubb was found dead in a Richmond-area motel room.
Grubb was suspended in 2006 for refusing to submit to random drug tests. (Chris Graythen / Getty Images)
Henrico County Police spokesman Lt. Doug Perry said Thursday that personnel at the Alpine Motel discovered the Mechanicsville native in his room Wednesday.
Investigators did not speculate on the cause of death, but officials said there doesn't appear to be anything unusual or suspicious at the scene.
The 31-year-old was suspended from NASCAR indefinitely in 2006 because he refused to submit to a random drug test following the Busch Series race at Richmond International Raceway.
Grubb was previously suspended in March 2004 for failing a drug test. But he agreed to random testing as part of his reinstatement. Grubb's career began with NASCAR's lower-tier series in 1997.

All Right Again! Just saw the headline "50 Year Old Wins Darlinton". And we all know who that is. I still can't open msn.sports though. No wonder the sudden movement upward in points. The "Lady in Black" was kind indeed. Let's hope this momentum carries on.(Go Ch*#%) LOL

Counselling is a great start and well worth it to save a marriage. As long as everyone follows the rules of counselling of course.

A rain shortened Coke 600 at Charlotte was disappointing. It did shake things up a bit though as Reutiman gets his first ever Sprint Cup win by not pitting and taking the lead as the rain fell.
But, the tribute for Memorial Day was fantastic at 3 pm eastern time. I think it was about lap 165-170 and all the cars were stopped on the front stretch, turned off and a moment of silence was observed for all those that have served our country. All the pit crews lined up on on pit row and all the fans were standing......It was a great sight and one that will stick in my memory for a while........Congratulations to NASCAR for this one..........

The point standings were shaken up a little, but Mark hung on to the #12 spot. Had the race continued I think it would have been better. Gordon's lead slipped as he was having a not so good day and Jr. moved back a spot also to 19th. Could Tony Stewart win a championship in the first year with the newly formed team?? Alot can happen between now and then. I think we're about half way to the chase now......
Next week.......The Monster Mile.......

Three Cheers for Rick Hendricks..........Dale Jr. is finally getting a new crew chief. I've been waiting for this for over a year now and they are getting the picture. It's not that Tony Jr. isn't a good crew chief, just that he and Earnhardt can't put things together. Maybe Dale can be a contender now.........as long as the new crew chief makes him do what he needs to.......

OK....All you race fans and Jump........The Vegas race is the weekend of February 26,27, and 28th, 2010. My renewal for tickets is due here next week, so that means Hunter should be getting his too. Sounds like Cimm will be there again this coming year, Jules and I, Hunter and Renae. I know there is a whole list above of people interested in coming either to the race or for the weekend and make it a mingles meet. Whatever the reason......those are the dates. Jules and I will probably fly in on Friday and fly out on Tuesday. That's all for now folks.....will keep you updated as info comes in.......

Good race this past Sunday.....especially for Pocono.....Congrats Tony......Mark kinda took a beating because of that last pit stop and slipped to 13th in the points......not good enough, but close enough to regain a spot in the top 12 before the chase begins........

I don't follow NASCAR. They have fenders and only turn left. LOL.
Seriously, I prefer the open-wheelers, especially F1. NASCAR I suppose can be exciting, but i've never really gotten into it.

Ron.......there's another guy in here....Cimm that is more into F1 and open wheelers. He joined us in Vegas last year for the NASCAR race and totally enjoyed it and will be in Vegas again this coming year with us. You should join us. Looks like alot of minglers may descend on Vegas that weekend for a get together, not necessarily the race, but for fun.
Go fast, turn left.......LOL

From what I have seen, the only people that criticize oval track racing, are spectators.
I have never read an article or heard an interview where a formula or an Indy racer (or the sports commentators and owners of the cars) has said anything condescending or disparaging about NASCAR.
Race car drivers from the other different classes respect that type racing, for both the technical challenges and racing strategies that it takes to win.
Fans of lot of F1, LMP1 and LMP2 racers often forget that a number of these drivers started out, by driving go carts around in little circles (as well as road courses) before they moved up to open cockpit or LMP.

Hehe, sorry. My comment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.
I have a co-worker who drives stock cars at tracks around Southern Ontario, and I'm always having "fun" with her this way too. She's not an open wheel fan and I'm not a stock car fan, so it gives us lots of material for our friendly 'sparring" sessions. Oddly enough, she's a big Danica Patrick fan, go figure.
In reality, I'd never diss anyone who can get into a 2 ton car and drive 500 miles at 200 mph while fender-to-fender with 30-odd other cars. It takes a lot of guts, skill and determination. Its just a different set of skills.

Great race for Mark! Up to eighth in points with eleven to run before the chase. That pit stop last week was very costly. He could have been real close to top five now.(Go C&#@Y?)

Nominees for first Hall class announcedComment Email Print Share Associated Press
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Former drivers Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip are two of the 25 nominees for the first NASCAR Hall of Fame induction class.
NASCAR released the two names Tuesday ahead of the announcement of all nominees Thursday night.
The first class will consist of five members. They'll be inducted in conjunction with the opening of the Hall of Fame in downtown Charlotte next May.
Allison and Waltrip were longtime rivals and are tied for third with 84 victories in NASCAR's top series. Waltrip won three Cup championships and Allison one.
A 21-member nominating committee selected the nominees from NASCAR drivers, owners and promoters.

OK, folks. Who's in your 25?
NASCAR will announce Thursday the 25 nominees for the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
[+] EnlargeAP Photo
Bill France Sr., left, turned the NASCAR reins over to Bill France Jr., right, in 1972.
Only five will get in, and some of those are obvious. Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt and Bill France Sr. all are locks for the first induction ceremony.
But picking 25 names is a much tougher assignment. Once you get below the top 10 or so, opinions will differ greatly.
The 20-to-25 group is the fun one. Below are my 25 who deserve a spot among the first nominees to consider.
As stated above, the first three are no-brainers: the two seven-time Cup champions and the NASCAR founder.
A fourth name on the list is the late Bill France Jr., who guided NASCAR into the modern era. Bill Sr. made NASCAR a legitimate sport; Bill Jr. made it a national sport.
Fifth for me is David Pearson, the only man besides Petty with triple-digit victories.
Pearson earned his 105 wins with the third-best winning percentage ever at 18 percent. Only four times did he race more than 75 percent of the season schedule, and he won the championship in three of those years.
So those are my five for the inaugural class. Here are the other 20 nominees:
6. Cale Yarborough: The first man to win three consecutive championships, and the only man to do it until Jimmie Johnson equaled the feat last year.
7. Junior Johnson: The old moonshiner won 50 races as a driver, and his teams won 139 races and six championships. But Johnson's legacy goes much deeper as the man who brought R.J. Reynolds and the Winston brand into the sport.
8. Darrell Waltrip: Three championships, 84 victories and a longtime NASCAR broadcaster who is one of the sport's most recognizable and beloved figures.
9. Bobby Allison: The three-time Daytona 500 winner equaled Waltrip with 84 Cup victories.
10. Rick Hendrick: The team owner by which all others are judged. He has eight Cup titles and probably more to come.
11. T. Wayne Robertson: R.J. Reynolds executive who oversaw the Winston sponsorship that transformed NASCAR into the big time. He was killed at age 47 in a 1998 boating accident.
12. Lee Petty: He won three championships and 54 races, but Richard's dad is best known for his photo-finish victory in the first Daytona 500.
13. Glen and Leonard Wood: When they do enter the Hall, and they will, these two should go in together as the founders of the pioneering NASCAR team of Wood Brothers Racing. Some of the top drivers in history raced for the Wood Brothers, including Darrell Waltrip, A.J. Foyt, Junior Johnson and Cale Yarborough.
14. Herb Thomas: He won two championships and 48 races and has the highest winning percentage (21 percent) among drivers who competed in at least 100 Cup events.
15. Dale Inman: The only crew chief with eight championships. He was with Richard Petty for all seven of his titles and earned an eighth Cup crown with Terry Labonte in 1984.
16. Bruton Smith: NASCAR wouldn't be what it is today without him. The Speedway Motorsports Inc. mogul has built and rebuilt some of NASCAR's best tracks. He transformed Bristol from a 25,000-seat house in the Tennessee backwoods to a 160,000-seat facility that is the racing version of the Rose Bowl.
17. Rusty Wallace: The 1989 Cup champion is eighth on the all-time wins list with 55 victories. He also is a two-time runner-up for the championship. Wallace is tied for second on the all-time list for road-course victories with six.
18. Richard Childress: Earnhardt won six of his seven championships with Childress, who overcame the death of the sport's biggest star to make Richard Childress Racing successful again.
19. Joe Weatherly: He raced a full season twice in his career and won the championship both times when he was 40 and 41. He was killed in a 1964 crash, the year after winning his second title.
20. Humpy Wheeler: He was NASCAR's most innovative track promoter during his three decades of work at the head of Lowe's Motor Speedway.
21. Tim Flock: A two-time Cup champion has the second-highest winning percentage (20.8 percent) among drivers with at least 100 starts.
22. Ned Jarrett: A true gentleman racer who won two championships and 50 events. Jarrett also was a top NASCAR broadcaster for many years.
23. Jack Roush: He has 115 Cup victories as a team owner, and counting, over a 21-year span, and two championships.
24. Wendell Scott: The first and only black driver to win a NASCAR event. And that was 45 years ago during the highly volatile times of the civil rights era.
25. Smokey Yunick: An innovative engine builder and designer whose cars won 57 races in NASCAR's top series. Yunick also was one of NASCAR's most colorful characters for years.
That's my list, but the official 25 come from a 21-person committee of NASCAR officials, team owners and track operators.
A voting panel, which includes a fan-vote element, will choose the first class. The five inductees will be honored next May at the new NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C.
So who's on your list?

Go Ch%@y! Way to go Mark. Congrats! Set a record for most wins in a year for someone over 50yo. Back to eighth in points. A good year already, but still needs to be more consistant for remainder of season. Something is way off on Junior's team. No way three cars from same organization can be in top 10, top 5, week in and week out and the forth not crack top 15 or top 20. What goes on here?

It's time for Jr to put up or shut up as a driver. Crew Chief has been replaced. I didn't see any bad calls. Every week, it's some reason. The car is too loose, the car is tight, the car, the car, the car. Maybe no one can effectly set up a car for his particular way of driving. Maybe he's lost his edge and afraid of the outside wall (which is my personal opinion). Maybe once the new crew chief and he start to sync they'll be better. Of course this is Mark's first year with Gustafson and they have 4 wins under their belt. I just wish he wouldn't win one week and be 40th the next.......LOL This was his first ever win at Chicago......I think they said nothing better than 6th or 16th in the past........right on.

I think so too Robbie, I hate to be critical. It's hard enough with the compitition and dollars involved today compared to yesterdays NASCAR. Jr. will never be Dale Sr., and I don't expect him to. Kyle wasn't Richard. And at his debut he had money and equipment at the top. He did win his first start (ARCA-Daytona) in a Petty Enterprises car. Also drove for the Woods Brothers at the peak of their success after Neil Bonnet with not alot of success. I think Adam (Kyle's son) was going to be the protoje in that family and was cut short. Larry Pearson never equaled David. I think he stayed in the Sportsman Division too long to make the transition to Grand National(Cup Cars now). Davy Allison was probably going to equal or exceed Bobby's success. He had a better head and attitude. Now Jr. has had money and equipment and an attitude (not a good one). He does need to put up or shut up. Many other drivers of today would be tearing up the charts with the same rides.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) Girls had their most dominant showing in the history of the All-American Soap Box Derby on Saturday, winning five of six individual titles for the first time and sweeping the three major divisions for only the second time.
The strong showing for the girls came during the 71st year of the grand prix of gravity-powered racing in Akron. A record 606 finalists from 160 cities and six nations competed and though a light 5-minute rain delayed racing at 2 p.m., it didn't dampen the enthusiasm of 15,000 fans.
"If you count this little sprinkle, it's only the 17th time we've had some rain at the finals," said Jeff Iula, the race's general manager who started working at the track 50 years ago at age six. "We've never been rained out. The Indy 500 can't say that."
Nor can the fabled race claim such a female-dominated winner's circle.
Courtney Rayle's eyes filled with tears as she gazed toward her proud grandmother. Rayle, representing Washington, D.C., and one month shy of her 17th birthday, became the oldest champion in the Masters Division in history by driving to victory.
FIND MORE STORIES IN: Washington | Virginia | Tennessee | Maryland | Indiana | Iowa | Indy | Akron | Justin | Sioux City | Betty | Walter Johnson
"It was the lucky number seven that did it," Rayle said after winning on her seventh and final try in the finals at Derby Downs. "My seventh time and I had car No. 73 in the 71st race. I'll never forget any of it."
Johanna Barnowski drove to victory in the Stock Division, giving Akron its record 14th individual champion, and Haley Beitel of Tullahoma, Tenn., won the Super Stock Division.
Megan Newcomer of Danville, Ind., won the Rally Stock class; Caitlin Smith of Federalsburg, Md., was the Rally Super Stock champion and Brandon Feagan, a 15-year-old from Richardsville, Va., was the lone boys champ, winning the Rally Masters Division.
"We needed one of us guys to come through," said Feagan, adding that the experience of being in the finals for the second consecutive year helped him.
"I knew a little more of what to expect, how to handle being so nervous from one round to the next," Feagan said. "You win a heat and you feel great, then you have to sit around for your division to come around again. You get very, very nervous and there's nothing you can do about it."
Rayle knows the feeling well. She's been coming to the finals since age 3, as six members of her family have competed in Akron a total of 19 times.
"It took a girl to show us guys in the family how to win. What a way for her go to out," said Rayle's father, Bill. He raced here in 1978, eight years after his older brother began the long family tradition of coming to Derby Downs.
Dad said little brother Justin, 14, can match his sister's accomplishment someday.
"Justin put his brakes on in the local finals so his sister could beat him and come here," Bill Rayle said. "He knew it was her last chance. He's got three more years, so hopefully he can come through."
Courtney and Justin's grandmother, Betty, sat trackside near the finish line. A few weeks ago, she was bedridden after receiving a chemotherapy treatment.
"I'm so glad I was here to see this," Betty Rayle said. "I've been coming here the last few years and this means so much to everybody in the entire family."
Another guest in Akron was Denny Zimmerman, who raced in the 1954 event and 17 years later was rookie of the year at the Indy 500 when he placed eighth. Of the 14,122 boys and girls to appear in the Soap Box finals in Akron and 983 drivers in Indy 500 history, Zimmerman is the only person to race in both events.
Zimmerman, along with 1937 champion Walter Johnson and 1948 winner Don Strub drove in the ceremonial "Oil Can Derby" that starts each year's finals. Johnson, 84, who lives in Sioux City, Iowa, became the oldest person to drive down the 989-foot, 4-inch course at Derby Downs.

Gonna be a good race today. With the double file restart it'll add something to the usual boring Brickyard. And they say they got the tire problems under control, we'll see. Mark on the pole.........hope he keeps the clean air since that seems to be key with these cars.
Women are long overdue for a breakthrough in the racing world.........starting with soapbox is ok........

Well......to have double file restarts, ya gotta have cautions and they were few and far between today. Juan got screwed....not that it bothers me any. But, damn, if Mark coulda got Jimmy on that restart and had clean air, I don't think he coulda been touched. But, good race ending and up to 9th in points with only six races till the chase.......we're lookin good.....
Dale.....reminds me of Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder when he made things happen.....like blowing the engine.....is it possible??? No edge on a bowling pin!!

Hunter, I've said for years that the "C" in NAS"C"AR stands for Chevrolet. Back in the day, when they were still "Stock Cars", the only control NASCAR had was on spoiler height-angle, airdams and such. When Ford, Dodge, Plymouth, even Pontiac, Olds and Buick seemed to gain an edge, they (NASCAR) would jack with those rules to "even" the score. Parity in the name of Chevy! LOL

And I used to bitch about that also.....and it's true. I've been a Rousch guy for years (until Martin went Chevy) and when the Ford gained an edge they were right there to change things for the Chevy boys. With the new car it doesn't seem as apparent anymore. Although Rousch hasn't been very good this year I don't know that it has anything to do with the make as much as the team.
And I gotta admit.......the first thing to run through my head when Montoya was caught was that......I wonder if that is because of the Hendrick cars.....?

....I wonder if that is because of the Hendrick cars.....? Me too!. Once it was Petty Enterprises, then Junior Johnson, then Richard Childres. I remember Darrell being a lap down at Richmond (before expansion from 1/2 mile) or Martainsville late in the race with not enough time to work through traffic and a caution was called for an ambulance to cross track after Darrell got in front of leaders. No tunnel to infield. Talking of Hendricks or those others I mentioned, think of engine blocks or cams or other parts. Which team gets first choice? If GM manufactures 10 or 100 blocks and heads. One of them is the best. With the track times being in the hundreths in qualifying and winning. It stands to reason the best, no. 1 is far better than no. 10 or no. 100, in all those parts. Put on a dyno will tell the difference. If you hear JoeBob is running a Hendrick's MotorSports, or Richard Childres Racing ect. engine. It's not the pick of the litter. But I admit, I'm a fan and its the best game in town. So lets go racinnnnnnn!

well robbi, you will love this, chevy has been allowed to introduce 2 new engines this alone, dodge and toyota have introduced a new engine as well, however twice Ford has tried to introduce a new engine, one that would easily compete with chevy, however Nascar refused to allow them.

We scored the extra tickets for my sis, bro in law and Cimm. Three seats right in front of us.......so we're all together. Also made reservations at Bill's for four nights.

Another rain out at Watkins Glen with the race taking place on Monday. No big surprise to see Tony win at the Glen........but, the first year as owner/driver.....good for him. Third win of the season only topped by Mark. Mark slid another spot in the points to 11th. Three or four more races to the chase?? He's got to hang in there and be more consistant. Kyle still in 13th, but closed the gap on 12th. From 8th to 15th anything could happen as the points are so close.....
Jeff Gordon is a step closer to retirement with that accident he was involved in. His back can't take much more I don't think. And Jr?? Well just like Jr. lost his brakes and head on into the tires.......
Michigan this coming weekend, then Bristol........Go Mark!!!

Jr. actually finished in the top 5.......thought he was looking good for the win...

LOL - first time I think I came into this thread and oh my gosh don't we have some NASCAR fans that are in quite the emotional aftermath mode... (lol@Robbie!) I know that NASCAR has something to do with racing cars but ummmm.... they are only cars with only people driving them right. Cars and drivers... hmmmm nothing too impressive to me as I sit on freeways with them daily and thank goodness for good music that helps tune them all out! LOL Sorry fans... nothing from me except an iPOD works well to help IGNORE THEM ALL! LOL

Pam.....I could be one of those drivers you're "tuning out".....LOL. Come on down!! Racing is in the blood....and I usually don't get too wound up about it...but, a mistake like last week was just plain stupid and made by a guy that should know better....

Ok, robbi. I posted an update in that "enojoying" thread. But, perhaps the "blonde woman" can fill-in the gaps. She tends to be a bit more wordy, er, I mean "detailed" than me. Yes, detailed! That's the word I meant to use. She's more "detailed".

Mark on the pole at Bristol??? Wow.......staying in front is key at Bristol, we'll see how it unfolds......I'm off to the cabin, so I won't see the race until Sunday night.
Fords dominated the race on Friday nights Nationwide race, so we'll see how the Chevy's do on Saturday night.

Ahhh thanks Robbi *smile* Is Jules "detailed" also? Very polite way of putting it HW! Yes, I tend to be detailed, wordy, long winded or in less polite terms "talk too much" - whichever way you want to word it, that's me. That's why I have rarely posted, I don't have time to say all I want to say *laugh*
Anyway, regarding latest tour, it was fabulous, HW, basically said it all in his "man of few words" way, I could give you more details but that would just be a waste of "internet ink"
Back to topic though, Watkins Glen was quite a site even though a few days before the big race, you could feel the excitement in the air. Hard to imagine such a small down being infested with race fans, not many roads leading in or out, it would be quite a site to have seen the town on the day. I used to go to the Indy races in Montreal when Jacques Villeneuve was racing. More than the race was the party between train cars on the way to Montreal from Toronto and back. Good times, great people.
Ok that's enough "detail" :-).

Good race for Mark. (Bristol) I'd like to say a solid 10th in the Chase. But the gap is too close for Mistakes the next two races. "Listening Alan?"

That was an excellent race.......if only he had five more racing laps.....lol. But, a good finish and a move up in points. 7th to 14th is way to tight to tell who's in and who's out right now......a flat tire could change everything....But, yes, get word to Alan immediately......LOL.......Bristol is a drivers race.....no gas strategy, not alot of pit strategy....just who can bump and grind......Love It!!!!
Chad Knaus and the right rear tire changer screwed themselves.....although J.J. made up some of the loss....
Nationwide is in Montreal next week........Hmmmmmmmm
But, we're in for a treat Sept 6th for the Atlanta Night Race......the first ever. Here's where Alan needs to have his stuff together........
Most......Jules is indeed more "detailed" than I. It's good, a very good offset of each other.....
Sounds like a fantastic trip you had!! Watkins Glen is pretty wild on race weekend from what I hear. Randy (Hobbit) and Veritababe were there a couple of years ago. I've been to Watkins Glen, just not on NASCAR weekend....used to go there when I was a kid for smaller races.

Well Richmond was alive on Saturday night!!! Congrats to Denny Hamlin who finally got a win on his hometown track. He definitely earned it and ran a great race. Congrats to all that made it into the chase. Sorry Kyle, maybe next year. Ten races to go now for the championship. Mark's best chance in years!! Mark starts the chase as the #1 seed, 10 points ahead of anyone else. Of course that can change very fast. So who's it gonna be? Tony who has had a remarkable season has had three bad races in a row........Mark has momentum going in and appears to be on the upswing. Hamlin describes his team as dangerous. Montoya is consistant as of late. Gonna be a great chase year I believe.......

I think changes should be made at Rousch.....NASCAR has to change their attitude about Fords in general.....But, 2 out of 5 in the chase isn't too bad, however they are not the stronger teams capable of competing I don't think. Consistancy got them in, but Edwards hasn't won all year and he'll have to in the chase to stay in play. Kenseth should've made it in, and maybe a crew chief change isn't a bad idea.

Yes it is free speech, anyone can be an idiot. Including you and I. And no maybe NASCAR isn't a sport. But it's about who can make a machine go the fastest for the longest period. And who can handle that machine best. They (NASCAR-Frances)have taken a lot out it turning it into a show. But it's still the best races going, no doubt. Now slink on back and trash your own forum Dingbat.

The phone has been ringing off the hook with calls from Ford attempting to get me to join their team.
In the interest of fairness, I've declined.

Getting ready for the Monster Mile this weekend......Will things even up or will someone step out and stretch their lead in points even more?.........Hamlin, Montoya, Martin, Johnson......All have good shots at it......could someone from the back of points come forward? Martin has won here before, but I don't believe it's been with the new car. Can Alan give him the machine he needs?

Not a good qualifying run for Martin.....hoping race trim is better. Johnson on the pole and Montoya on the outside of the start.......gonna be a tough race, especially with J.J. having choice of pits. It's important at Dover........ Mark needs to get to the front as fast as possible to stay out of harms way, cuz you know there is gonna be a pile up and starting 14th could put him right in the thick of it.
If he'd just call me I could give him such information.........LMAOOOO

LOL. Any position on the track is better than not being on at all.!!! So many good teams in the Nascar family of drivers & teams. I'd like to see the young guns such as Dale Jr get behind Mark & push him to a championship. If your trully not in contention for it themselves it only makes good sense to help someone who is. Young guns like Dale Jr & the Hendrix teams helping out a competitor such as Mark Martin, WHO HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR THE SPORT AS A DESCENT EMBASSADOR AND HELPING OTHER DRIVERS would show the fans alot as to how Nascar is trully a giving sport & family oriented. Just a thought, highly unlikely such a thing could take place in reality & still be fair or competitive eh.!!

Unfortunately NASCAR has gone the way of most professional sports and that is the way of MONEY. Although I think you'd see Jr help Mark out if he had the chance (which he'd have to be near the front to do and that hasn't happened often this year) the Sponsors want their product in Victory Lane and that's probably the bottom line. The racers themselves with a few exceptions are probably of the mindset you are, but, they also know they don't race without the millions in sponsorship dollars. Sad but true.....I think the Hendricks boys will help each other in the clinch though, If Jeff Gordon doesn't do well this week, he might as well help someone else.
Kyle Busch has made it clear that he is all about taking points from others in an attempt to lean the favor towards his teammate, Denny Hamlin.....

Well, another great run for Mark, although a tougher race than last week, he did a great job and should be really happy with a 2nd place finish. Had anyone else besides J.J. won the points lead would be sizeable. But, Jimmy is the champ and proved why today......actually, Chad Knaus proved why he is the best crew chief out there and worth every cent they pay him.
Good race and I'm happy to see Joey is alright after his horrible looking crash. That new car is truly amazing when it comes to safety........
On to Kansas.....GO MARK!!!!!!

Actually xcl Ambrose is having a very successful year. Not in the top of the drivers list, however, he's been learning alot and running good. He won at Watkins Glen road course this year and has a couple other good finishes. Like any driver that crosses over from open wheel racing he's getting used to the crash/bang/push of stock cars. So, all in all a good year and promising driver.

Mark Martin on the pole.......Jr. on the outside. Now we'll see what kind of teammate Jr is. Will he make sure Martin leads the first lap for that 5 points?? Jimmy is back a little, 9th or something, he'll be up front before long and Stewart is looking good this week........Gentlemen, START your Engines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice to see Jr allow Mark to have that first lap for 5 points. Jr had another good car and got screwed on pit road and later it quit on him........guy can't catch a break. Nice run for Stewart.
LOL......They had to calm Keselowski down early on......that kid is gonna be something next year when he's full time. Not sure about the team he's going to, but...

Not a good night for Mark. But he's still in the hunt or "chase". Johnson has to stumble and Mark had better be in the right spot. And yes, Gordon is always a threat. What about that first class into the hall of fame? I was disapointed to say the least.

I wish they would've inducted more in the first class. I wouldn't have wanted to be on that committee that was limited to five. I agree with a couple and can think of more deserving for a couple though.

Not a bad race for Mark, but not good enough at the same time. Any other time, just surviving Martinsville would be good......finishing top ten even better.......but this year, this race he needed to be top three. 118 points is nothing depending on what happens in the next three races. Mark calls Talledega "the lottery" and that's for sure. Anything can happen.....the restrictor plates have been made smaller by NASCAR which means the racing could be closer and more packed up than it normally is in restrictor plate racing. Being in front is normally safer and you don't get caught up in the "big one", but, last race showed Carl Edwards at the front and flying through the air on the last lap.
Mark NEEDS to qualify good and NEEDS Jimmy to get mired in the back. We'll know next Sunday night what happens in the crap shoot they call Talledega.......

Well........qualifying went belly up. Coverage starts at Noon ET today. Should prove to be a good race. NASCAR is taking a hard stance against agressive driving today, we'll see how that plays out and who gains from it.
GO MARK!!!

LOL......Dirt track is the most awesome racing.......
Well, Congrats Jerry, your driver McMurray got himself a win. Talledega was worse than usual with the smaller restrictor plate and the new rules they made up on Sunday morning about pushing in the corners. Ryan Newman was ok after his rolling crash, but upset with NASCAR and rightfully so.......Mark Martin rolled and his interview was confusing to me, couldn't tell if he was mad, or dingy from the the crash........
Anyway, you can probably engrave the trophy......Jimmy was lucky if nothing else......

Well, my current co pilot is very directionally challenged, last time we took a trip to Cheyenne, Wy we got to within a few miles of Rapid City, SD.......it was interesting as I had never taken that route before.......but it did add a few hours to the trip. Gotta love her though......she's a great riding partner....let's me sleep while she drives.......hence the SD trip......LOL
Was Billy talking about 200 mph when he made that??.......

Nobody is more directionally challenged than me. Honestly even on an oval track we would end up in the stands *laugh*
Lucky you Robbi being able to nap - have you ever tried to nap in a 1931 Roadster? Almost impossible, the only place to rest my head is on HW's shoulder, which is great till he shifts gears *laugh*

Wow........tough day for Jimmy in Texas!! Not that I'm not happy about it. Sure changes things as far as the chase is concerned. Mark has a shot........still outside, but a shot which he didn't have after last week.
On to Phoenix, where Mark won in the spring and then the final race in Miami. 74 points can be made up in the next two races pretty easy should Jimmy have another bad day.......

Well.....there is still a glimmer of a chance......but.....Looks as if Mark will settle into second place for the 09 season. Was a good race Sunday, my sister and brother in law were in attendance and their drivers are Jimmy and Jeff Burton.....so they got a a bonus to see them finish 1 and 2.
Off to Florida for the final race of the season.......
The action to watch this coming week will be in the Nationwide race on Saturday. There is a feud boiling and I think Brad Keslowski is going to get what is coming to him in the final race .......Hamlin already plans on being first in line to wreck him.....
