Training camps are starting, lots of competition for starter jobs and players making the cuts.

Michael Vick could provide some 'distraction' for his team, huh?

The new Cleveland QB, Brady Quinn, is facing quite a bit of controversy himself. Many are predicting that he is a 'pretty boy' with little NFL level talent. Only time will tell... and the time is coming soon.

Other then that... Cleveland has Jamal Lewis this year. He should help them.

Anyone think there is a way we could have a fantasy league here? there certainly is alot of people interested...we could draft by date joined...or whatever it doesnt mastter.

Thats funny "Dogboy", imagine if and when he goes to Cleveland and their dawg pound end zone crowd....he better hope there aren't real bones thrown at him.

He's fair game for any kinda hitting now and his body cant take it. There is no such thing as cheap shot against that pc of trash. He gives new meaning to so many central characters of Rap songs....smile

Interesting situation with Mike Vick (and others).

Is he guilty?

That doesn't seem to matter any longer in our 'witch hunt' society.

Well The NFL commissioners office and the owners are not bound by any notion of presumption of innocence really.

On its face, there is certainly a preponderance of guilt, that is enough.

Given the other crap with the NBA and there's gonna be a recipe for reform or they will loose money.

I've lost alot of my fanaticism for Football Thom. You can follow who is where anymore.

Today the NFL channel had Maddens story of induction to the Hall of Fame. I hadn't realized it was 30 some yrs in the waiting. In my opinion, he not only was a great Coach but he has enlightened alot of viewers to the inside game of football. The nuance of the sport is what really makes it great and then add the violence.

Whatever Hotfotballers problem is with it, is known only to him because unless you've suited up and went head to head in a good slobberknocker I guess you just wont get it.

I saw Elway in Philly one Sunday Night...man it was cold too in December. In pre-game warm ups....what a rocket arm. The Eagles knocked him out in the second quarter but not before he threw a beautiful bomb.

When I was a young boy, I went to Franklin field and saw Sonny Jurgensen. Saw him toss a pass 20 yds on a line behind his back in pre game. NFL is the worlds best team sport.

The only other thing I could even begin to compare the struggle to is maybe Sailing , Americas Cup type stuff.

Sco - you may not have been here previously when hotfootballer, pedro, assclown, or whatever-name-he's-using-today was here.

He's basically a little boy in an older boy's body, constantly searching for someone or something to admire him (ain't gonna happen).

His only sexual experience has been with sheep and he's looking to add a human female to his sex resume (good luck, lol). No takers thus far, lol.

Hehe, The BBC's Footballers Wives is pretty good, those hot kinky brits are Aok wif me but HFB'er,...what is it that you don't like about the game?

There's grace and power and Stra-tee-jury. Theres...."The fumble" when everyone mad crashes for the pigskin...

And if anyone thinks its easy to kick a ball between two posts ought to go try it.

well did you see Vicks lawyer swear this was the first step in proving his clients innocense. They said more charges are coming. This was a secret indictment. I know I sure wouldnt want the Feds on my ass, they usually have a slam dunk when they come knocking.

Oh, also one show was on Gruden T, I realize you hate the Network but this was good. Warren Sapp narrated some of it and tols all about Keyshawns attitude....Sapp was the host of the Team, I mean he had it all set up. The Bucks ate together, fished the whole nine...and Johnson never even showed after getting signed, he just wasnt part of a family there.

Curtis Martin announced his retirement. I recall one of his frist games in New Engalnd or Ny, whatever and he had a major rushing day. Parcells was quoted, well one rushing Sunday dont get you to the hall of Fame. The guy is fourth in rushing and could have passed who???? I forget. its 1. E. Smith....oh Walter Peyton and then Brown? anyway, he could have gained more yds for sure. Hes going to announce hes buying a team he said. He just didnt say which one.

Joey Harrington is the man once again thansk to Vick. Can it even be overstated just how stupid Vick is? And cruel too?

"NFL is the worlds best team sport"

maybe under your north american point of view dude!

let me tell you something brother, the world do not give a shit! NFL is just a bastardised form of rugby (a real british sport)

again when it comes to american sports, we the rest of the world do not give a shit.

the reason i do not like it is you have lots of stoppages, wimps and pansies wearing that sexy licra, ridiculous helmets and pads (rugger players do not wear it as they are real men!)

now you have the most famous footballer, who is David Beckham in your own country,he plays for LA Galaxy. once he recovers you should go and watch a match, at least you would see real and proper football!

Well, as recall the Mayans played a form of soccer where the losers got their heads cut off....what hapened to that aspect of soccer?

Rugby is a great brute strength sport but tell me, show me where the grace and speed is...show me timing is so important....tell if you could blindfold players and have them throw that ball exactly to a player like NFL QB's s can. Your rugby players couldnt keep up with an nfl wide receivers if the gave them a 20 yd cushion. In fact, when I played I was pretty wuick for a white boy and I was like only one step behind most kids in my school....I venture to say at age 52 most of your Rugby players couldnt even cover me at my age.n I give those guys credit , its a tough sportbut, I believe Curling is a tougher sport...now theres a hitting sport boy.

NFL footballl is poetry in motion. Unless you have ever been down on the sideline and listened to the collisions of 275 pound men going head to head...you cant even begin to understand the sheer power and violence of the sport.

Thom, the other night the NFL network had 12 on 12 drills from Green bay...with first string going against first string defense...in 2 min drills...and it was full contact except red QB. Farve needs what 7 tds to pass Marino? I think we get pre-season games this week right?

Beckham, the dazzling star of world soccer would last exactly one play in any NFL football game, lol. After the one play he would be in permanent retirement.

(Beckham is VERY good at what he does, but soccer and badmitten aren't too popular here in the USA. Girls soccer is popular though.)

The Cleveland Browns have once again (happens every year) been handed an injury defeat - Willie McGinnest (sp.) is out for back surgery.

it is ridiculous to compare NFL to rugger!

now i say, NFL is a silly sport with lots of stoppages, an article showed that one NFL player is on the pitch no longer than 5 minutes.

on the other hand a rugby player is able to play for more than 80 minutes, and remember that rugger is a sport is a harder and tougher sport.

rugger players are more versatile than NFL players, in fact NFL is just like a wall, with players acting like a wall

and rugger is a sport with a hard pace, anyone to play it must be mobile, versatile, phisically and mentally strong.

a NFL player would not resist the hard pace in rugby, as NFL players act like walls (except for the quarterback).

again NFL is full of stoppages, oh and those helmets and pads, lmao

as for David Beckham, well he does not have anything to do with this thread.however, only an idiot (TCK) would say he would not last on a NFL pitch, yes he would not last! just like a NFL player would be fooled on a football or rugger pitch

I heard that Vick won't be playing this season....poor sick bastard. Maybe some of his $13m can go towards therapy to find out why he thought it was great "sport" to fight dogs and when they didn't do "their job" to brutally kill them?

I think the irony here is that while there are a lot of young and dumb football players out there (Pacman Jones comes to mind too for some of his pranks), a good portion of the players are married with families and pets.

And Michael Vick, at 27 years old, is no longer "young" in my book - he's over the age of consent, surely knew what he was doing was wrong - could have done a google search and figured that one out - and yet did what he wanted anyhow.

I wish there were more Warrick Dunns in the league - oh wait, there are quite a few normal guys who play football and manage to be in the limelight for the right reason!

I think the Falcons will do okay. Because this "broke" before camp, they were probably mentally preparing themselves for what it would mean in the long haul for the season. I just feel sorry for the new coach - what a pile of dog crap to come into, huh?

Dayum Navy...you must be pissed to out and out curse...wow I'm impressed ..!!! Vick is just as stupid as they come.

I have to admit, I am not personally apposed to Bull fighting as it does pose a man against a beast and he does have no promise of leaving there in one piece...plus its a cultural thing.

Same goes for **** fighting. I cant seem to recall a Rooster going nuts and killing anyone so they too are far play...its a Spanish thing and even in Europe too, I think.

Hotfootballer, you cannot accurately project one athlete into another sport really. It's been done with 100 meter sprinters in the NFL. Bullet Bob Hayes being the most famous, than San Fran had a no-descript I cant remember.

Granted, NFL players only see a fraction of the onfield time but do you seriously think they couldnt have been trained at a younger age to do the same.....regardless....

You obviously never went to a game and witnessed the speed of the game. I am afraid to tell you NFL players would leave your guys holding their jocks...and also...please explain the sport. what is the difference between a scrum and say.....a goal line defense???? I can say....NFL scores every time...just in leaping ability.

And NFL holds in sheer power. Do you realize most NFL QB's can power clean 400 lbs? Danny White did and that was ages ago...I had the Cowboys Team workouts on paper....tried to do them and almost died.

I haven't seen one Eagle game...where the hell are they?

yes i have never been to a NFL game nor have i watched a game on TV. the only i have watched comes from some scenes and some films.

what i say is that rugby players are more mobile, versatile and mentally stronger than NFL players, as rugger is a sport with a hard and heavy pace. oh and do not forget that rugby players can easily play for more than 80 minutes without stopping, whereas a NFL player is on the pitch no more than 10 minutes and do not forget those bloody stoppages that stop the game very often.

yes i know some NFL players with 400 lbs, and that proves my point, you know, a person with 400 lbs is NOT versatile, much less mobile! in fact they act like walls.

oh and do not forget that rugger players do not wear those pads and sexy licra and those helmets.

only a few players wear a scrum cap to protect their heads, but even a scrum cap has nothing to with those helmets you use in USA

hotfootballer:"yes i have never been to a NFL game nor have i watched a game on TV. the only i have watched comes from some scenes and some films." Than HOW can you really know what it is that your talking about..its like those who never saw a Hockey game up close...if you saw trailers of the sport form a distance , you would say Boringggggg!

Yet, get behind the glass or play, which I did -not very well TY but I did....and you'd be amazed at the speed and endurance of the players...

I admittedly have never ever watched a Rugby game...anly saw bits and pices...same goes for Cricket...do you think you could compare that to say...baseball really???????

It like apples and oranges really. You're welcome to be an ASS as long as you like. The NFL player has probably the quickest first step in sports, other than a sprinter. The snap couint just in itself, having 5 to 7 down lineman move on a the voice inflection lends itself to reaction time and bruiute force.....you might want to lisdten yto the game too..and hear the one to one sh*t talking...the pyschological and intimidation of the sport is what you really have no clue to....honestly...pick up a DVD if you can...find some old raiders championship games and see what football is about...when you knock your opponent on his ass and he is tired and trying to get up and you put your fist in his chest , just to make hime expend the extra ounce of energy....haahahahaha

You really havent a clue.!!!!!

what does football and running of the bulls have to do with this subject? we are talking about rugby and gridiron, also known as NFL.

both sports are strong and hard, however, rugger players are more mobile, versatile and mentally stronger, and they do not wear that high amount of protection that NFL players wear, protections which make them look like pussies.

and as for football, you have David Beckham on your own soil, why not a visit to LA to watch him? even if no-one really cares about that team called Galaxy.

Thom, McNabb is starting Friday night Vs the Panthers. They have a fairly ferocous defense , no?

I have been so out of the loop on NFL info, I cant even follow my team re-arranging so much of my life right now....I watched part of the Houston/Chicago game tonight and BTW heres a site dunno if you been there NFLrush dot com. I know you dont get the network and it does indeed look from a commercial point of view they want to take it over in the future.

Logistically speaking TCK, they have in place alot of what they will need as it is now. How to package it and sell it , full knowing we had it free forever is the trick they are looking for. There are local sports packages for areas....like, say you like the Boston area...BC College and the Celtics, you can buy into that area as if you lived there. It's a keen marketing ploy.

The whole pro sports has so many problems all at once. How about the NBA???? I can recall, a major bigtime foul called at the end of the Indiana Pacers playoffs, coached by Larry Bird....do you? Bird even said postgame he knew when push came to shove, fouls would go their way, meaning to the opponent, which I think was Chicago...I cant recall. Now, I'm sure much tape is being reviewed for dead give aways to this scheme.

NFL Films has a collection of introductory hits into the game. Dick Vermeil described NFL players as being like unguided missiles who gather themselves and release all their energy with unabated explosions. Having been on the sidelines once I can say the sound and speed of it is eye popping.

"what does football and running of the bulls have to do with this subject"

About the same as futbol has to do with NFL, which is the title of this forum. If he wanted to talk about Futbol , he woulda named it Futbol. Or Rugby or any other sport. I'm not knocking the sport because I am big on SPORTS all the way around its just hard to even try to wedge Futbol or Rugby into an NFL conversation.

The NFL has so much market and the sport has supplanted baseball as Americas Past Time. There is so much talent coming into the game at all positions it seems. Just in the past few yrs the QB position exploded with talent. The NY Jets just agreed to 36 million dollars for 6 yrs to a rookie.

Imagine a lawyer getting paid the biggest salary right out of law school and never trying a case, its absurd butm they do it.

Chicago & Dallas tonight.

Devin Hester (return man for Chicago) could be the most exciting player in the NFL.

In 21 NFL games he has returned 8 punts and kickoffs for touchdowns. Unreal.

Dallas was clearly outmatched and outplayed in the Patriots game.

Even one of the announcers said it was good that the Dallas Cowboys found out what it's gonna take to play 'at the next level'.

Especially after being all 'underfeated' hyped up when barely (barely) beating that NFL powerhouse (lol) Cleveland Browns team in a game which Romo threw 5 (count them - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...) interceptions.

Dallas might be ''America's Team'' (uh... yeah) but they've got a way to go in the NFL.

I think the combined record of the teams dallas played before the Pats was something like 6-20....not that my Giants dont have a cushy sched this year too...I was scared the g-men would crap the bed on MNF as they usually do...but I'm likin what I see with the team...i'm gonna try and go to that giant-cowboy showdown in the meadowlands in Nov...should be a nice rowdy game...

America's team my ass...they havent won a play off game in 11 years....

well it would be great for TCK to get the Collins or the Oxford dictionary. he then would learn the proper meaning of words.

but i do not blame you all, i mean, Americans tend to use that Webster dictionary (Noah Webster was an American), which by the way is full of spelling mistakes and wrong meanings

El Pendejo... you can use the word 'cock' here. You're not on one of those children sites you frequent so often looking for sex, where the word 'cock' is censored.

Incidentally, do you pick up children on those sites for sex, or do you act like a child on those sites so you can get cornholed for pesos?

Either way... you're a faggot.

Good question.

While I believe they are the best team with the most talent (Indy Colts are running a CLOSE second) some team could catch them on a bad day and give them a loss.

On any given Sunday any team within the NFL can beat any other team.

It's gonna be great watching all of the teams try to beat NE, whether it happens or not though.

Go Browns! I'm looking forward to watching the Patriots vs the Colts Sunday. That should be a game to remember. Sadly, the steelers put it to the Bengals. I'm also looking forward to Steelers vs Ravens because IF the steelers lose, they, ravens, and Browns will be tied for first place providing the Browns beat the seahawks. Go Browns!

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots rushing leader Sammy Morris was placed on injured reserve Friday, ending his first season with the team.

Week 9 fantasy injury report The Patriots listed linebacker Mike Vrabel, tight end Benjamin Watson and free safety Eugene Wilson as questionable for Sunday's game at Indianapolis between the NFL's only unbeaten teams.

Vrabel, who forced three fumbles and scored a touchdown in last Sunday's 52-7 win over Washington, has a shoulder injury. Wilson missed that game and Watson missed the last two games with ankle injuries.

Advantage: Colts.

oh and I see we have some FFB players...here is my team and the auction values (We started by keeping 2 players from last year)

This was my team after the Auction: $180 Salary cap...I forget what the keepers were rated against the cap...but you get the idea...

QB Manning, Eli NYG '06 Keeper

RB Lynch, Marshawn Buf $20

RB Peterson, Adrian $20

WR Burress, Plaxico '06 Keeper

WRHolt, Torry-STL $80 (went for Holt instead of Randy Moss...boy did I and everyone ELSE get THAT one wrong!!! Then I got sick of watching him dog my Roster and traded him Str8 up for Jason Witten...and of course now Bulger is back....ughhh)

Welker, Wes WR NE $1

Pollard, Marcus TE $1

Stover, Matt K BAL $1

Seahawks, D D SEA $1

I'm holding steady in my division, i have the 2nd most points scored but have the 2nd most scored points agains...but in our league 3 teams make it in on their record and 3 on points scored so as of today im a playoff team....if anyone here ever starts a mingls FF league id be down in a minute....would be fun and so easy to do the whole thing online...

Some highlight games this weekend could be -

Cleveland - Pittsburgh

Dallas - NY Giants

Indy - San Diego

(New England has a bye week to rest up... as if they need it, lol. Basically it's just a few more days off for them so Tom Brady can keep screwing Giselle longer.)

The Steelers game was quite good, nice to see them come back after being down by 15 pts. Cleveland looked pretty good though, unlike their past seasons.

My boys (Da Raiders) lost again...no big surprises there!

Giants lost...oh well, and so did Miami....but hey the Rams got their 1st win!

Can you tell how excited I am with this season?

Someone mentioned Raiders earlier in the post.

Grew up a Steelers fan in the days of the Steel Curtain. Hate to say it, but I just don't see any games on that were equal to watching the Steelers and the Raiders go at it. You just *knew* that was going to be brutal. Pads or no pads - it was going to hurt.

Dallas and Steelers - not quite as good. Dallas would try to ballet dance the whole game and the Steelers would just pound on people all day, and bull the ball around.

I certainly hope that the "Play of the Day' was that 51 yard field goal by Cleveland!

Half the Ravens already had their shoulder pads off in the locker room when they were told to go back out the field ( to lose ).

The Browns really should have lost that game after they way they played in the second half. But Fate is a funny guy.

Big Ben is the guy making things happen for Pukesburg.

Still plenty of games left to make a difference....Doo Doo happens.

Cowboys were the better teamlast night...but not by much...I was impressed by rogers backing up the injured Favre...maybe the 'boys woulda scored anyway...but the 60 yard P.I. call was a little ridiculus....at least my FFB TE Witten had a decent game...

Matt, I didnt get a good look at the replay but, it seemed to me that Owens had the ball taken from him on that sideline pass. That would have turned it over to the Packers.

Having escaped Baltimore on Monday night with a 27-24 win over the Ravens -- the most watched cable program in television history -- the Patriots, now 12-0, play the 9-3 Pittsburgh Steelers in Foxborough, Mass., today in what might be the most challenging game left on their schedule.

Imagine the joy I had today with the Packers/Raiders being shown here in NYC! We actually had a double-header to watch on CBS! That same joy went quickly down the drain upon my Raiders losing...oh well. Not sure what happened in the review booth, but that Packers player was definitely out of bounds when he ran for the TD...even the announcers caught that one!

New England vs Steelers, a tight contest as Steelers just scored a TD. I pray that they can beat the Pats, I can't stand them!

Dallas escaped from defeat...and the Giants did too!

Can't wait till next season. There's a lot of overhauling to do!

The BIGGEST irony would be if Miami didnt win any game this year ... EXCEPT the one against the Patriots... But I DOUBT that will occur.. It does seem that they will go undefeated during the regular season.. But as all of us Football Fans KNOW .. It is a Big change in teams that make to the playoffs.. Just look at the way the Colts defense played last year when they made it to the playoffs compared to the last Games that they played during the regular season..

I've been snowed in all day, watching football. Huge blizzard outside.

The Steelers played horrible defense today, they can't complain about getting beat by the Jaguars. The Steelers are nowhere near being a superbowl contending team, so it might be good that they lost as now they are tied with the Cleveland Browns, and that makes for a great Steelers / Browns local rivalry to see which team can be the AFC North champions.

New England went to 14-0 as expected.

I saw the most amazing play of all time yesterday in the NFL.

With just over 2 minutes to go in the game against Dallas, and just a 4 point lead over Dallas, Brian Westbrook of the Eagles ran 24 yards for an apparent touchdown. But instead of running in to the end zone for the touchdown he downed the ball on the 1 yard line.

The Eagles then took a knee on each down to run out the clock and secure the victory.

That's the most unselfish, intelligent, team inspiring play I've ever seen.

Well i do believe that the only game to watch left with New England during the regular season that will prove to be tough on them is the Miami game this weekend.. Miami finally won last week. Though I am not saying that they will win this weekend. But I do believe that it will be a better game than the Patriots and the Giants game.. I could be wrong but the AFC east always plays each other tough. Besides the Dolphins did give New England their first loss Last Year.

Unfortunate Steelers player injury to say the least, but I don't think the Steelers were going far this year.

Now... what if a similar situation occurs with New England? Should they continue playing toward an undefeated season, or rest their starters (risk losing a game) in pursuit of the Super Bowl quest?

One more Sunday of regular season football.

Neither the Patriots nor the Giants need the game they play against each other next week. But the Giants do not get a rest (bye) week so I think they will lay down and let the Patriots win (which they probably would win anyhow).

Too bad the Patriots and the Colts can't face each other in the Super Bowl, but, if they meet each other in the playoffs perhaps we'll have two 'Super Bowls'.

When the playoffs start season records don't matter any more - it's all sudden death. How much of a shock will it be if the Patriots have a bad day and get beat?

The best tackle in last Sunday's Packer loss to the Bears was actually made by an official ....

who pulled Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett down by the collar in an attempt to break up a skirmish.

"Barnett's agent told ESPN that the linebacker will file the grievance against umpire Jim Quirk."

The Patriots were tested and again exposed that they can be beaten but will they? I enjoy watching the Patriots struggle and win but not their blow outs.

Did anyone notice just how long Wes Welker stayed on his block between the tackles to help that running play for a touchdown. This guy is a consummate player. He got on his block and didn't just make good contact, which would have been enough. No, he rode the Giant defender all the way down on his back. This kid is a great find for the Pats. Everyone points to Moss but Welker is the heart of that Receiving corp as far as effort.

Randy Moss has the best hands of any receiver I ever seen play the game. His presence is enough to scare defenders on long close plays.

Again , just for the fun of it.....I hope the Jags(my underdog pick) get to meet the Pats. That will be a game of will. The Jags can run it down your throat and bring the noise on defense.

To beat the Pats however you have to play 60 mins. Philly and the Giants had them on the ropes. If that is an indication of strength in the NFC East then the Boyz might their shot. this season reminds me of the yr the Bills were rolling it up and yet only beat NFC teams by slight margins. when the Giants met them in the Superbowl, Parcels had a great gameplan for them. Belichek was the defensive coach that yr too.

I'm sure post season will be more fun the the regular. Get ready for NFL withdrawal pangs after the Superbowl. I get them every yr.

Wes Welker is truly an emerging superstar. And has Randy Moss stepped up to the leadership task, or what? The former league 'class clown' comes of age. Amazing what teamwork can accomplish.

Jaguars are a great underdog pick. But remember... after today, once the regular season is over, every team in the playoffs is equal. Win and move on, lose and it's sudden death. There may be no underdogs.

The Texans always seem to have Jacksonville's number....another victory for them.

The Giants could have beaten the Pats last night, but alas what else can I say, except can the Pats just avoid the Superbowl? wink

The lineup has been established.

Starting now any team that loses won't be seen again until next summer.

Hit 'em hard boys.

I just watched one of the greatest plays ever when LT from San Diego made a diving leap into the end zone only to be stopped stone cold in mid-air. LT then stood up within a mass of players, reached out and held the ball over the goal line: touchdown. He never crossed the goal line, but the ball did.

I'm sure we'll see the replay 100 times.

Awesome play, awesome camera coverage.

I am SOOOOO happy. The Titans, whose win over the Colts (which shocked me that they beat the colt) knocked my Browns out of the playoffs, lost to the Chagers, which sent them back home with no hope for the Super Bowl. Pittsburgh played like crap Saturday, are now out of the playoffs as well. Big Ben couldn't seem to find his own players during that game. I was skeptical though, they are infamous for being down and coming back to surprise everyone with a win. They had it, they were down, they came back and were ahead by 1, but they just couldn't maintain the lead. Needless to say my dream about the Super Bowl obviously isn't going to come true. I look for New England to get beat next week. Not because they're a bad team, but look how sloppy they've payed their last few games. I think they're getting a little to confident and we all know pride goeth before a fall smile

The best weekend of the NFL football viewing season is almost upon us. Predictions anyone? The odds say that: N.E., Colts, Dallas, and Green Bay, will emerge victorious.

But... odds don't matter. I wonder if the Colts can get past San Diego. I hope Dallas beats the Giants.

The fans win no matter who loses... bring it on...!

Well... flat out - that's gotta be the best first half I've ever seen, in any game.

Packers are down 14 to nothing in the first 4 minutes of the game. Packers are up 28 to 17 at the end of the half. Brett Favre... what a guy.

And there's another half still to go...!

(Then the New England game too...!)

A Lovely game played the old NFL way under perfect conditions! Many Happy Cheeseheads tonight! I hope they end up playing the Giants.

I'd love to see the Pat's luck run out tonight, but they have a way of squeaking out of tough situations. Which is what the game is all about.

Agreed, Rollo. I think many Cheeseheads would prefer the Giants matchup with home field advantage.

One of the few things Favre has not accomplished in his record breaking career, is a win in Dallas.

Personally, I would like to see the Packers play Dallas, then hopefully New England.

Packers and Cowboys would be a great game, I hope we get to see it. And there's a good chance we will.

The way the Packers played their last game was phenomenal. If they bring that level of game up against the Cowboys it coud be a rough day for Romo & the boys.

3 hours or so to go until San Diego / Indy. Should be a good shoot-out.

I missed the Pats jags game . Ill have to catch it on replay but the PAts can be beat. Fior sure the the Giants had them on the ropes and the way Green bay plays defense who know but NE seems to be destined but one injury can change all that. I can remember when two home teams lost like they did today.

CaptainCorelli, you won the 'insult battle' with your comments about your wife's dead mother. You're proudly the 'lowest of the low', congrats.

Use your wife to score forum points with someone else.

It's a new day & time for me here in Mingles. I'm not going to be drawn into your 'baiting' and childish insult games.

You and your gang of liars, fakes, and multiple profile blockers might want to stick to your own threads, because your type of behavior won't be tolerated in 'my' threads.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

I'll have to see a San Diego active roster and injury report before I get too excited about their chances, they had a few key players banged up last week. But hey... on any given Sunday...

Yes! Green Bay's weather can effect the game, I hope green Bay wins, and I think they will win.

How I would love for Brett To get the chance to knock off New England. Not because I dislike the Pats, I do enjoy watching them but enuff already.smile

San Diego has shown the ability to get to Brady. The way I see it is the way I've seen it for some time now. Run, control the clock and keep Brady off the field as much as possible.

I would also say that if there is one key player to stop in the New England offense , its Welker.

It's not that he is more of a threat than say Moss or even Stallworth but he is the go-to guy that keeps the sticks moving. His balance and elusivenes in open space is hard to put a value on as he turns short plays into first downs or long second downs into short third downs. Take him out of the equation and I dont think the Pats can run the same type of four wides with the same amount of pressure.

Belechik is unpredictible and he has inserted heavy doses of Maroney in the past few games. It wouldnt surprise me in the least to see him run the ball alot today.

Good observations about Welker. Personally I think he gets all of the balls tosses because they're double-teaming Moss. Definitely a New England offensive weapon.

Almost every man on the New England offensive is well known name now. I look for them to handle San Diego, especially with all of the S.D. injuries.

Who's gonna win? Me & you, Scorp, and everyone watching, lol - we get to sit back and be entertained.

(Green Bay... ugh... I just about turned around halfway on my 3 block walk to the store today because of the wind chill. I can't see how the players will maintain motivation throughout the game. I'd be thinking "get me the f-u-c-k out of here...".)

I cannot believe that San Diego punted instead of going for it - and consequently NEVER GOT THE BALL BACK as New England rolled won the field.

PUSSY call. San Diego loses the game, and some honor. Weak effort coming down the stretch.

New England Patriots are 18 wins and 0 losses. Going to the big dance (Super Bowl)...!!!!

I kept hoping that SD would step it up. It has to be frustrating to be a Bolts fan having been so close. How I know that feeling all too well.

I walked to a friends house and turned round midway and went back for a hat and scarf it was a cold Mofu out.

Hopefully the big game will be against a real live gun slinger in Farve but NE's secondary is good huh? Assante Samuel has such good skills and he can close on balls in a hurry also.

Giants won in overtime. I'm not 'happy', but Green Bay didn't look like they came to play. The N.Y. Giants looked like they came to play, they played, and they won on a 47 yard Field Goal in overtime. It doesn't get any better than that. Good game.

Super Bowl two weeks from today in Arizona.

New England and New York.

I'm certain the SB game will be watched by many on the East Coast!

The Pats are a good team. They've remained pretty healthy through the season but they can be beat. Three of their games were only won by 3 points. Two of those were due to some really bad coaching desicions from the opposing teams. But that's part of the game.

The playoff season has had some really great games played. Let's hope the SB is just as good.

what you've never heard a fan refer to the team they follow in that manner before?

Ok I'll explain it...fan basses of sports franchises tend to refer to the team in the "we" narrative as they have an emotional investment in how the team fares.

Matt, You really think that catch is better than Swann's Catch against the Cowboys? Forfet about the fact that the giants needed it to keep going. For pure catching abilitiy is what I am saying. Or how about Boyd Dowlers catch that was practically behind his back in Superbowl one?

The Most impressive Superbowl win still, in my view, was watching Montana go 90 yds with less than two minutes to be cinncy.

If Tyree was the Giant's player who caught the pass toward the end of the game by holding the ball against his helmet as he feel down, then hung on to the ball, he gets my vote for the best pressure packed catch I've ever seen.

Call it luck, call it skill, but that one was the best in my opinion.

Scorp regards to your questions

yes better than swann and yes better than Dowler..which if you mean SBII wasnt that a blow out?

if tyree even scrapes the ground... it is gonna be called incomplete...The reason Montana was so great was because no one knew how to defend the west coast offense back then. that's why Young was able to step riht in and pick up where Montana left off.

They are doing a naming contest for it on one of the radio stations here...

Matt, When the Giants beat Buffalo in that SB, if my memory serves me right, Lionel Manuel caught a ball and broke at least two tackles to get a first down in a scoring drive,. It was 4th and 15 I think. That was the best catch/run I ever recall. As far as catching ability, hands and coordination, ok Tryee's catch was awesome. And it was a pressure packed catch, Ill give you that too.

Boyd Dowler admitedly had one hell of a hang over and wasnt expected to play, how he made that one handed catch almost completely behind his back is still amazing but times change and prity is producing better championship games fo sure.

Once I went to an Eagles game and they played the Skins. During practice I saw Sonny Jurgenson throw a out pattern twenty yards downfield just for the hell of it...

Something that hotfootballer couldnt appreciate

****The leader is THE GREAT ESCAPE

But i like? THE HAIL MANNING (altho neither give Tryee his props)*** Well, youre right neither do justice to Tryee but you know as a die hard Birds fan I dont care...hehe...sorry, we just cant help ourselves here in philly. We hate the Gints and the Boyz...only consolation to you is we hate the Boyz more....I still laugh when I think of how we snowballed Jimmy Johnson coming off the field. wink

I do confess however wagering on the Giants against the Bills that yr. Getting 7 1/2 was too tempting. Even this 12 1/2 spread on this past SB was crazy.

You know it hurt Belichik too to lose to the Giants esp since that is where he got his big break as defensive coordinator for Parcels.

Keep me informed on what name they settle on for that catch.

Since it was against the Patriots...how about "the catch heard round the league"...sort of a take off on Bunker hill...then again maybe not.smile let me know

Underdog Giants Keep NFC on Top

January 27, 1991

http://www.supernfl.com/SuperBowl/sb25.html

"Super Bowl week annually is a time for football and celebration," said Joe Browne, the National Football League's vice president of communications, in a statement issued to the media before Super Bowl XXV in Tampa, Fla. "In light of the (Persian Gulf) war...we plan to emphasize the game itself."

It was a novel approach, to be sure. In many of the previous 24 Super Bowls, it was the pregame hoopla that seemed to take center stage. Once the lavish parties had ended, the rhetoric had quieted down and the unforgettable media hype had run its course, the NFL's conference champions usually went out and played a wholly forgettable game.

Not so in Super Bowl XXV.

Both the times and the timing were factors in making this Super Bowl one to remember.

With the nation's collective mind focused on America's entry 11 days earlier into hostilities against Iraq, the bigger-than-life scenario usually associated with the Super Bowl was in little evidence. NFL officials and Tampa authorities downplayed -- and even canceled -- many of the festive events leading up to pro football's showcase game.

Furthermore, for only the second time in 21 seasons, the NFL had a one-week gap -- not the usual two weeks -- between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. There had been the contention that the Super Bowl qualifiers had lost much of their competitive edge over two weeks and that the long wait had contributed to one not-so-super Super Bowl after another.

Amid this unusual backdrop, the New York Giants and the Buffalo Bills went out and played a stem-winder of a football game. The Giants took a second-string quarterback, an offense copied from Woody Hayes' playbook and a defense that all but ignored a pass rush and parlayed this strange mixture into a 20-19 victory over the Bills in what will be remembered as the gem of the first 25 Super Bowls.

It certainly was the most tense of these NFL title games. Threats of terrorist activities associated with the Persian Gulf War generated extraordinary security measures, including the positioning of FBI sharpshooters in the upper reaches of Tampa Stadium. Players from both teams acknowledged being distracted by the off-field events.

The matchup of the NFL's best points-allowed defense (the Giants yielded only 13.2 points per game in the 1990 season) against the league's highest-scoring offense (the Bills averaged 26.8 points) lived up to its potential, generating the kind of game worthy of this worldwide arena. Most Super Bowls have been dull and lopsided -- especially during the National Football Conference's streak of six consecutive victories from 1985 through 1990. The NFC extended that string to seven on the strength of the Giants' upset triumph against Buffalo, a victory that wasn't clinched until the Bills' Scott Norwood misfired on a 47-yard field-goal attempt with eight seconds remaining in the game. ...

The Giants used up 3:24 of the final 3:49 in the half to march 87 yards for a touchdown -- Hostetler's pass to Baker -- that trimmed New York's deficit to 12-10 at halftime.

The Giants then embarked on the record-shattering touchdown march of 9:29 to open the second half. Buffalo had two opportunities to stop the 14-play drive (capped by Anderson's one-yard TD burst), but the Bills failed both times.

Early in the series, the Giants had third and eight at their 27. Hostetler flipped a swing pass to halfback Meggett, who found himself directly in the sights of Buffalo linebacker Darryl Talley near the line of scrimmage.

However, Meggett danced out of Talley's embrace, bounced out of the grasp of defensive back Cliff Hicks and squirmed to the 38 before Nate Odomes could flatten him.

How was Meggett able to turn a nothing play into an 11-yard gain?

"I can't explain something like that because it's just sort of instinctive with me," Meggett said. "I knew I had to get a first down on the play, so I tried to spin or slip or do anything I could to get that first down."

The Giants kept moving and picked up a first down at the Buffalo 29, courtesy of Anderson's 24-yard journey around left end. Three plays later, after a holding penalty against tight end Mark Bavaro, New York was in a third-and-13 situation at the Buffalo 32.

Again, the Bills were in a position to squelch the Giants. But it was not to be.

Hostetler dropped the ball over the middle to Mark Ingram, and the wide receiver broke Kirby Jackson's tackle at the 30, churned free of Talley's attempted take-down at the 25, spun away from two other defenders and made it to the 18, for a first down, before James Williams shoved him out of bounds.

"We had been on the field for a long time and we were starting to get tired," the Bills' Bennett said. "And when you get tired, you get away from your techniques and start reaching and grabbing instead of making clean tackles.

"We almost got him. We almost stopped their drive right then. But almost isn't good enough."

The Buffalo Bills may have come up short but, for once, the Super Bowl game itself did not.

xxxxxxx

The Best Superbowl I erver saw. The Giants denied the ball to Kelley for over 2 1/2 hours when you combine their end of the first half ball control and the second half drive.

So Mr Matt. It wasnt Manuel but Mark Ingram....so there.....hehe...hey I am old enough to have every Superbowl ever played but that one was special. Espically because of the Gulf War and then the Giants Superbowl. Hosteller went in as a back up against Montana and Kelley and out played both that yr.

The Giants defense with nicklebacks the whole game really laid the hits on the recievers. Not since the old Raiders did I see a team intimidated but, being an Iggles fan just demands we hate you the East.

Now, as far as Chicago or Philly....its way tooo windy up to connect iron there but its a beautiful city.smile

Hey Matt, I know youre or were in the inspection biz....have you heard anything on that Bridge collapse in Minn...anything difinitive? I heard some rumors at my Hall that there was some maintainence being done and perhpas some connection(splice) plates might have been involved

INDIANAPOLIS - There will be no game of tag between the Patriots and Randy Moss, as the club declined to place the franchise label on the receiver by yesterday's 4 p.m. deadline.

No franchise tag on Moss

Moss a candidate franchise tag

Pass play: Brady and Moss opt out of Pro Bowl

Moss, whose contract expires when the league year ends next Thursday, can still return to the club next season, although the Patriots surrender leverage by not tagging him.

Had the Patriots placed the tag on Moss, interested teams would have to surrender two first-round draft choices to sign him, an exorbitant price that most often scares suitors away. Without the tag, Moss is technically free to shop himself to all teams..."

MAYBE YOU'VE wondered why the NFL asks prospective players to run a 40-yard dash in order to assess whether they have the stuff to play in the league. Why don't they just ask them to run a 50 or 30? Is there something significant about 40 yards? And who came up with the idea originally? Really, there is a lot more to running the 40 than just getting from here to there.

you mean like terell owens? Or maybe Dante Stallworth? McNabb's accuracy is questionable. That and the fact that he seems willing to accept losing to easy. Too many smiles coming off the field for us.

Garcia had the attitude last yr but we didnt get those breaks of the game. Got a first down called back(New Orlens playoff game) that put us in scoring position then well......whats the use...McNabb isnt a gun.

I like the kid in Cleveland. He's got a nice arm. QBS only have about 7 yrs to really produce before they take an injury or the team rebuilds. What was his problem this yr. Had a back with over 2000 all purpose yds. These receivers can catch. Most of them have good hands, they need to have the ball delivered.

The Pats have a number 7 pick in the first round of the Draft.

I'm watching the combines on NFL network. I dont keep up college football like I once did. The Senior Bowl I do watch.

At one time in the NFL, the Superbowl Champs would play the College top picks in the Pre-Season opener at the hall of fame game. That changed due to injuries I think. With so much money invested, they are expensive property.

good observations....lol. I had no good picks for the playoff rounds. Only taking the points on the Giants in the SB. 12 1/2 points is such a large spread in a tight game. It could take a full half to wipe that spread clean and most pro games that are even that far out of synch rebound back at the close of games.

That was a worthy bet considering their former performance and the fact like Matt said, they beat teams they lost to during the season.

The only thing I've heard is what I've read in some engineering magazines. i read that the bridge was inspected and repairs were called for. Whether the repairs were performed and failed I do not know. At this stage something like this akins to a doctors diagnosis with working theories etc etc, maybe they even find an indisbutable explaination...but I wouldn't hold your breath.

IMO, the best way to keep bridges safe is the way we do it in NY. Everyone complains about the never ending construction/painting/tolls, but its probably better to keep cleaning and painting or replacing all the members continusoly. I spent the 2nd half of last summner under every pier of the Throggs Neck, mapping out the scour repairs and building a 3-d graphic model of it for the TBTA. I'll be doing the triboro this summer. Most people don't even realize the Williamsburg bridge is a brand new bridge. It took 10 years but they replaced every member on that structure.

oh yea it a Football forum...sorry....hehe

as far as picks... no one knows...lol...I love when they put the "experts" up against a chicken or a monkey...that always makes me laugh...

McNabb...basically he has Canadian WR's around him and the Iggles go to the championship game 3 times...then he gets one pro bowler in Owens and you lost the SB but a friggin field goal... ungrateful iggles fans...lol

Owens is an ass but great for the game...lol *wahhhh* he's my QB!!!* waaaaahhhh*** how much did you LOVEthat!!!??

I completely understand your frustration (I'm still a knicks fan by a thread and the hope Isaiah goes to coach college) but as a GIANTS fan i must bust your shoes....it's reflexive...lol

I wouldn't take McNabb over Eli cuz I think Eli's taken the leap to the next level and is gonna sustain..Watch for him to scramble more next year as the way defenses seem to play him leave him 6-9 yards) But I would still take McNabb over almost 20 of the other starting QB's in the league.

I'm liking NYG for next year to except the NFC East is friggin loaded...we may send 3 teams to the post season again...who said football lives in Texas??? Oh yeah...HIIIGh school football....lol

GMEN locked up justin Tuck before the playoffs...I'm betting shockey will behave in the huddle like he did in his rookie year (he's almost in effect a rookie to the SB starters)

Twin TE formation from the 6 yards line:

Buress flanker, Steve Smith slot, OT G C G OT Shockey Boss

Jacobs/Ward/Bradsaw in the backfield with Hedgecock/Finn blocking...the whole play book is open...gotta respect up the middle (I read an article in Nov. on footballguys.com that made the Case for Coughlin's teams being the new Denver...awesome run blocking and can plug anyone in there) that'll draw the LB to the middle and let any one of those four playmakers to head for the four corners of the EZ...I realize of course this is true for many teams and all their WR's , RB's and TE's....but phuck it...these guys just did Blue nation proud!!!!

ok...must try again to sleep...lol

The Gmen had a great season...Eli didnt look like a deer in the headlights thats for sure.

I wonder what a future bet on the Giants to win a SB was.

I wonder what they are to repeat.

Matt, Cable Stay Bridges are the future of bridges. Over long spans, and they're cheaper(I would think) to put up. We did the maintainence on the Ben in Philly and oiled the cables. 27,000 strands, 30 inches in diameter when all put together. Nice project until the scaffold caught fire underneath ....you should have seen the panic because of course....heat causes failure.

They try to say it was from smoking but in fact it was probably spontaneous combustion from rags cause cigarettes arent hot enough to even light gasoline. Thats good you have so much future work. I Like the Verezano Bridge but i dont like to pay 7 dollars. I was up near the Throggs Neck Bridge lat winter. 10 yrs to put up a bridge? They must of had issues with soil or some other unforseen reason. It shouldnt take that long but then, I'm not familiar with the project.

In reality, as you know the Giants are in fact a Jersey team.

The Meadowlands is perhaps the best venue to watch a game, youre so close to the field.

Football in TX is like another religion.

Moss will stay with New England for three more years.

Rothlisberger signed a $108 million contract with the Steelers for 11 years. $36 million is guaranteed.

"GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- After flirting with retirement for years, Brett Favre means it this time. The Green Bay Packers quarterback quit after a 17-season career in which he dazzled fans with his grit, heart and rocket of an arm.

"I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired," Favre told ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message."

***Rothlisberger signed a $108 million contract with the Steelers for 11 years. $36 million is guaranteed.***

WOW, I missed that piece of news. Thats a nice deal.

I think Farve lost it when he threw that pick in the championship game in OT. You could see it drain from his face as he saw it intercepted.

Does anyone know, I mean really know what the law is on online gaming?

I used to play before it became illegal and did quite well too. I even had to pay income tax on the money but trust me those sites do pay and the Automated games are not alsways set up to lose.

I wont say say exactly how much I won but it was ALOT

Anyway, I continue to get these offers from sites.

oddsmaker.com just gave me 200 dollars to join their site.....It's not redeemable until you play 15 times the action but I doubt I will ever even try to get it out because I think gaming is illegal. Plus, its not my money, I didnt send any money offshore.

Anyway heres some future bets on the NFL Championship for next yr.

Bet 100 now for these odds to go to the respective league Championship game and win.

Dallas Cowboys 0 +200

New York Giants 0 +500

Philadelphia Eagles 0 +600

New Orleans Saints 0 +700

Minnesota Vikings 0 +1,000

Arizona Cardinals 0 +1,500

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0 +1,200

Detroit Lions 0 +3,000 <---- Look Capt'n , even the lions got good futures to bet on but I dont see it happening

New England Patriots 0 +200

San Diego Chargers 0 +350

Indianapolis Colts 0 +350

Jacksonville Jaguars 0 +700

Cleveland Browns 0 +1,000

Pittsburgh Steelers 0 +1,200

Denver Broncos 0 +1,500

Cincinnati Bengals 0 +2,000
