Prologue

The day had been particularly gloomy all day. The drizzle only added to her crummy mood. The weather seemed fitting. Today was a day for endings, sad endings to sad stories. She had flirted with the idea at first, but now, looking at the rain as it began to fall in sheets, she realized this was the only answer. She really had no choice. So this had been her choice. How many years had she suffered, unable to find the answers she was looking for. Now she understood that this had been the only answer her whole life.

This should hurt, shouldnt it? She wondered as she watched lightening crack across the sky. Her dog howled pitifully from the terrace, scratching at the screen door to be let in. He had always been terrified during a thunderstorm. She felt bad about putting him out there, but she didnt want him to make a mess. She was determined not to leave a mess someone else would have to clean up. She had been careful to lay plastic down, and two large bowls to catch the drip. She had laid plastic over herself as well. There was no sense in messing herself up either. The knife lying in her lap was blessedly sharp. She had seen to that herself. Sharp enough that she hadnt even really felt it slice through her skin, down deep into her veins. She made the cuts long and deep, she didnt want them closing up on her. Then she had let her hands fall to hang above the bowls placed to catch her blood.

She watched, her vision beginning to blur, as the storm gained fury. The flash of lightening and roll of thunder had her dog howling again, tearing frantically at the screen. Though there was no physical pain, the emotional pain was a black hole of sorrow that sucked her down to the point of no return. Tears flowed unnoticed down her cheeks. As the blood flowed out of her veins into two simple bowls of plastic her dogs howl echoed in her ears, and Cassidy slipped under that void, into silence, into darkness, into blessed nothing.

It's good, has a very dark tone indeed, good imagery. Would you develop it as a horror story or a mystery or something else?
Search even deeper... who are you looking for exactly?
