Ok, I'm 19 and I have a specific question. I don't want critiques about what I should have done, I just want advice on what I should do now.
The events of this story occurred from this past Sunday (night) to Today
I was at dinner with my mother, grandmother, and my brother's employee at a restaurant that we have been long time customers at (over 15 years). We happened to get one of the waitresses that has been taking care of us for a very long time. But I couldn't help noticing that adorable hostess on the way in. After dinner I asked the waitress how old she was and implied that I was interested. Turns out the girl is 16.
It's a bit young sure, but having not had a girlfriend in a year, I'm willing to take risks. So, I wrote down my number and my name, planning on giving it to her on the way out, but when the waitress comes back, she has the hostess' number already. I got the girl's number and I gave the waitress my number to give to the hostess.
Later on in the night, I text the girl, indicating that I would like a text when she was done working. I assumed that she would know who it was, considering she got my number (I witnessed this) and, so, I didn't specify who I was in the text.
I didn't get a response.
I sent her another text again today, and again, assumed that she would know who it was. This time, though, all I said was "Hey", thinking that if she was interested that she would respond.
Again, she didn't respond.
I asked some friends, they thought that maybe she just didn't know who it was and so ignored my text messages. I'm not entirely sure what is going on or if I had a chance to begin with, but hence the reason for me being here.
Can someone advise me what the safest and best course of action at this point is?
Thank you so much for reading, I know it's a long description.

We can all hide behind technology. The question is, (*since you are "willing to take risks"

why not just try talking to her instead of texting her?
You never know what the situation is, maybe she was grounded and her phone privileges were taken away or something, but just keep trying.

If you're 19 and she's 16......I think I'd leave it alone all together and move on....

You're 19. She is 16 and has two years of high school left. You do not have the right to confuse her and engage her in a relationship that deprives her of socializing with her peers. She is off limits. Move on and find a college age girl. Bill

In the old days (my parents) it was very common for men and woman to be married at this ecxact age and it was always preferred that the man be at least 3-5 years older than a woman due to the fact that gravity and age sets in faster on the female body than it does on a male..19-16 is a perfect combo!!!

Not perfect in the eyes of the law, and being a sex offender could not possibly be worth it. Guys need to grow up after high school and leave the high school girls to high school guys. Bill

Its exactly perfect in the eyes of the law for this dude to marry this cute hostess at the age of 16 as long as they have parental approval which may be gained in a variety of ways varying from state to state.
heres the age law for the dudes homestate of Maryland:
Parental consent is needed if under 18 years of age. If you are between 16-18 years of age, one of your parents or guardian must be with you and provide written consent. If you are under 16 years of age, you will need both the written consent of your custodial parent or guardian and the written approval of a judge of the Orphans' Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas. If you are under 18, pregnant or have a child, and show a certificate from a licensed physician stating you are pregnant or have had a child, the parental consent requirement may be waived.
So as you can clearly see and read will its quite legal..
but,,,,the guy just wants to take her for a date...
and if they decide to have sex,its also legal...Age of Sexual Consent in USA
Md. 16 f/m, no law on homosexual intercourse
so go get her!!!!

So what terrorist ant-semite state do you live in? They rape and stone women where you come from don't they? Are you in Syria? Lebanon? I doubt very much Vancouver would have you but the last time I heard terrorists find their way into America through British Columbia. I think all of your posts are suspect. And if anyone with half a brain in Homeland Security reads these then they should investigate you. It is a well known fact that terrorists use public forums to communicate through coded chatter. And all of your posts add up to coded chatter. Bill

When my niece was 16, she was dating a 20 year old guy, a very nice kid, came from a good family, etc.- when her high school got wind of it, my brother and his wife were paid a visit from the school- they were told that if they didn't stop the relationship, that they would be filing charges, since she was under age- they were shocked, but they put an end to it- I say find someone at least 18, because you never know what can happen, and if anything WERE to happen, of a sexual nature, her parents could have charges filed against you- better safe than sorry.

Oh Dear JClass,
You joined Mingles on 8/18/2008 at 10:51 PM You had confusing thoughts swirling in your 19 year old mind like, oh geez what should I do about not hearing back from her after I text her... what does it all mean? So you signed up to Mingles and 14 minutes after joining on 8/18/2008 11:05:44 PM you publicy threw yourself into a thread that never gets deleted.
You have never made another comment since then in ANY thread and I haven't seen you in chat which suggests that you no longer exist in Mingles, BUT that doesn't mean a thing! People have things to say to YOU! And yes, to each other all under YOUR thread!
Silly you!!!! LOL (Just chalk it up to another lesson - should you ever find yourself without a life and decide to return) On that subject... looks like you figured it out and are busy in real life and NOT looking for advice online! CONGRATS!!! lol

And it would seem that you see yourself as the expert on not only foreign policy, but American Law as well- you're an absolute joke, toy- my comments have every foundation, as I didn't get it from "hearsay"- and I LIVE HERE.

What? You offered no proof whatsoever in your post of your knowledge about this sort of situation.
Laws differ in each state, regarding whether or not a statutory rape charge, or contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge can be filed against someone over 18, who is involved with someone under the age of 18- This specific situation happened in California- Because all California schools have each and every one of their employees sign a document for what is known as a "Mandated Reporter", if any of them ever hear/see a situation that they are concerned about, such as the one where my niece was 16, and her boyfriend was 20, and don't tell the "proper authorities", which in this case would be CPS, then they can be prosecuted for NOT reporting it, if something were to happen and it ever came to light that the school knew, and didn't act. It isn't always an easy thing to prosecute in the court system, especially if the ages are in close proximity, and it's a relationship- but it CAN be prosecuted, and who wants to have to hire an attorney, and go through all of that, when CPS is telling you that they will move it through the proper channels if you don't abide by it? When CPS is called, they HAVE to, by law, check out each and every situation they are called about, regardless of what it is.
On the other hand, I signed a notarized statement giving my oldest daughter the right to marry when she was 17- I'm not sure of the age that a minor can marry if they are under 18 with parental consent, it may be 16- but we're not talking about marriage, here-
Come on, Toy- I've worked in law offices for years, whether or not you believe it, it's true- it does happen, and more often than anybody cares to know-
If you think that I'm being overly dramatic, here- look things up in the California Penal Code.

actually i posted the maryland law way up there a few days before you happened onto this scene.
its very clear and laws vary from state to state, but in every case there is a formula where a man regardless of age can marry or have sex with a woman thats under 18 years old...you havent said anything in your post that i havent already made quite clear..

Webcam, you really need to start paying attention!
Theres a little story up there about a 19 year old who was interested in dating a 16 year old.
No talk about rape.
No talk about marriage.
No talk about reporting.
The guy wants a date and wants to know our views on age difference.
1st dummy up Will the KKKK..
2nd dummy up webcam most...
3rd&4th are robbi and manhattan(but they really arent dummies like you, they actually gave a brief personal opinion) which is great.
You want to go to war with me ?
lol,hahahaha
Both of you come in here ranting and raving about laws that you dont even understand.
Then you want to call me on it without even reading what i already posted!
I expect an apology!

Whats "here, cpc 261.5" mean to me? Is this supposed to prove something that i havent already said?
The CPC is very clear on this subject and again,it only proves what i have already said to you and the other dummy several times now.
Now you read it!
(a) Unlawful sexual intercourse is an act of sexual
intercourse accomplished with a person who is not the spouse of the
perpetrator, if the person is a minor. For the purposes of this
section, a "minor" is a person under the age of 18 years and an
"adult" is a person who is at least 18 years of age.
(b) Any person who engages in an act of unlawful sexual
intercourse with a minor who is not more than three years older or
three years younger than the perpetrator, is guilty of a misdemeanor.
Pay close attention to article b,and then read the f.ucking post up there where it says the guy is 19 and the girl is 16....there is no penal code if a 19 year old asks a 16 year old on a date..
IF they had sex and IF the AGE DIFFERENCE is more than 3 years you have a misdemeanor that is punishable by up to 1 year in prison. This is not the case..
now apoligize!

IF you happened to have a 19 year old son, and IF he happened to have a 16 year old girlfriend, and IF they had sex....and IF her parents decided to press charges, I would just bet that you would change your tune quick enough. Justice is truly served when a defendant can afford a VERY good attorney. Heaven help anyone who is in trouble, and can only afford a Public Defender, which costs nothing.

Go with what your heart tells you. Only you can live your life? You have to learn from your own mistakes! That is all part of growing uq and becoming an adult. But she will want to be with you all the time. As you could end up being her first true love. Them what happens say 6 months in you break up and she is heart broken. Ask yourself could you cope and how you would try to sort it out ??
