it is official, winter is here, at least in Oregon. from the northern cascades to the souther cascades it is as we speak snowing. when we get snow this early it is not a good sign. last year we had snow this early and wound with near 5 feet of snow for the year. time to bring on the Christmas music, after all home depot and walmart already have put out Christmas decorations.

LOL.....Rep I was thinking of making a similar post. With all the financial mess in the country/world, with global warming, with the Iraq war, Afganistan etc.etc.......Then on top of it all......the boobs have been tucked away for the winter.
We have a winter storm warning out for the next couple of days and yes, as we speak.....snowing.....Farmers Almanac said it's gonna be a long cold one this year no matter what the polar bears are up to.........

They said that 4 letter word in one of the forcasts last week but the worst we got was a little frost overnight. Temps back in the mid 70's for the Columbus day weekend.

yes...we are suffering some mild Santa Ana winds this Fall. I just *winterized* by closing the sliding door a fraction at night. I'm also thinking about getting a blanket out to accompany the sheet on the bed. That should help too. I wonder if I closed the windows in the guest room and master bath...naaahhh not yet, it's only mid-October. I shouldn't have to close them until late November. I'll make a note to self.

I had to put a sweater on last night in order to get ice out of the freezer
SHEESH, even without the fan on in there, It was like 32 degrees or something!
(I'm sure glad I don't live in Canada, that would have made the temperature like 0 degrees in there, and that's just too damned cold for me)

lol...damn Canadian conversion standards!
Well it was below 32 here last week a few times, but this weekend? High 70's, might reach 80 today. What the bloody hell is going on?? Ah well, certainly won't complain. It won't be long now and we'll be knee deep in Frosty's dandruff.

It's over for now it seems. Supposed to reach 50 the next couple of days. Of course there will be 30-35 mph winds to blow your skirt up and keep it feeling cold. By the weekend, 65......it's sniffle weather.......

It's 34 right now, so, maybe if I sit here on the computer for a while, the snow will melt from my windshield and I won't have to scrape.....lol

Well, it's just breaking 80 outside, only got up to 90 yesterday, so winter is indeed here

What's going on? The weather is teasing you, Cap. Just wait, soon you will wish you had our horrible, sticky humidity.... ah crap, no you won't.
It would be heaven down here, except for the humidity...

STUPID SUN!!!
Still in the 70's this week (sorry rep)
it DID get a bit cold the first day of my vacation on the east coast last week, but it warmed back up to the 70's in northern virginia the rest of the trip
(I believe this can be attributed to my sunny disposition)

Oh my gosh. We (western Chicagoland) got a little dusting of snow mid-week last week, and it's been mid- to high-70s and sunny ever since!! Craziest (and most fanfreakin'tastic) thing.
Obviously, the point was to soak it all up, all the warm air and gorgeous sunshine, so that we don't feel so miserable when we're still shoveling 6 months from now.
We'll be back to cold & rain tomorrow, *real* snow soon I'm sure.

*singing* "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer"
Grandma got run over by a reindeer. Walking home from our house Christmas eve. You can say there's no such thing as Santa, but as for me and grandpa we believe. She'd been drinking too much eggnog, and we begged her not to go. But she forgot her medication, and she staggered out the door into the snow. When we found her Christmas morning, at the scene of the attack, she had hoof-prints on her forehead, and incriminating Claus marks on her back. Now we're all so proud of grandpa, He's been taking this so well. See him in there watching football, drinking root beer and playing cards with Cousin Mel. It's not Christmas without Grandma, All the family's dressed in black and we just can't help but wonder:Should we open up her gifts, or send them back? Send them back!! Now the goose is on the table and the pudding made of fig and the blue and silver candles that would just have matched the hair on grandma's wig. I've warned all my friends and neighbors better watch out for yourselves, they should never give a license to a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.
*haha, the cartoon about this song is really funny... grandma is friggin crazy!

Let me go through my checklist here... -30 c outside (-22 f), snow on the ground, truck might not start (block heater cord looks kinda effed up), apartment windows all frosted over, yep, it seems to be winter although technically it's still autumn for another week or so, isn't it? On the plus side, it does seem more Christmassy and less like the middle of October.

Okay, quick update... isn't it ironic that when the temperature hits -30 c / -22 f, THAT'S when you find out the block heater cord is hooped? Yeah, truck's frozen pretty good, battery's dead, not going anywhere today but no stress, no worries, whatever I had planned today can wait. Probably a good day to see who's playing in the NFL.

I can tell because I went down to the Missouri River bridge and unrolled my pecker out all the way - water temperature is the best way to check ambient air temp
(river's high - it's deep too)

Hiya, Scorp. I never really was an Eagles fan, though I followed them for a bit when Jeff Garcia was still playing for them. College-football wise, I like Temple and they're located in Philadelpia, aren't they?(Why I like Temple, eh, I'm not sure. Trust me, I'm not an alumnus or anything and until they do better, I'm not likely to catch any of the Owl games on tv.)

Well, up here in Everett, Wa my house has about 3-4 inches of snow.
I'm so not a fan of it but it's pretty to look at when I don't have to
worry about being out in it. YUK! This morning was beautiful as the sky
was blue and the sun out as well. Of course, tisn't warm enough to melt the
dratted stuff, but the effect is cosmetically pretty.
Often I am told, Welcome to the Great White Northwest, but I've been here all
my life - the welcome mat has worn thin, lol.

yesterday the temps ranged from 60 all the way down to 8 last night and the sun never came out from behind the mass of clouds so it was very dim out
around here, we call this phenominon "im5 weather" because the temps matched his IQ and it was so dim...

74 out, going up to 81... probably won't turn the a/c on, a good day to clean bird cages and air the house out.
I miss snow at Christmas time, though. I used to get some great cold weather pics. My Dad thought I was insane running outside barefoot to get sunrise pics when it was below zero. Only out for a couple seconds... but you gotta get good sunrise pics NOW, no time to put on clothes.

Just watched the weather. Ya'll in the midwest and north east are going to get hammered. That snow in Vegas will be with you this time tomorrow. Moving quite fast and dumping lots of the white stuff. Take care of your pets and be careful driving.

Couldn't you guys keep this nasty weather out west??? Listening to the radio on the way to work this morning there were already schools closing in anticipation of the storm, but I saw not a flake til I arrived at work. That was 830 this morning and just the beginning. It snowed all day, schools that weren't closed dismissed at lunchtime. The daycare where I work decided to close early too, (4pm usually open til 6). Parents were notified and started coming to pick up kids. Our plow service had not shown up even at 4 when the last kids walked out the door, with me right behind them. Half the staff had been outside digging out parents who got stuck in the drive. All together we got about a foot of the white stuff, (give or take) but high winds and lots of drifting. Rochester is used to snow but even being prepared the road crews had trouble keeping up, it was coming down so fast and drifting across highways that were already plowed. Took me the better part of 2 hours to drive home, (I wasn't in any hurry, just wanted to get there in one piece). Then another 2 hours of shoveling and I had enough room to get the car in the driveway and the front walk clear for the mailperson in the morn. Still have 2-3 car-lengths of driveway to shovel. Tomorrow supposed to be cold but minimal additional snow, with more snow coming on Sunday.

trust me bunkie, i wanted to keep the winter storm here. although it stopped snowing on thursday early morning, it has been soo cold here in this part of los angeles that the snow is melting veeeery slowly. now we're expecting a winter storm with snow levels at a higher elevation (im only at 2500 ft.) coming sunday. but it has been soo awesome to drive around & see a white snowy palmdale which i've been told is somewhat rare. anyhow, i have a close friend up in buffalo, so you all be safe and stay warm... we here in l.a. will love to take your snow... esp on 12/25.
btw swamp, within the 1st hr of the snowfall here on wednesday, there were somewhere of an upwards of 40 auto accidents. i am happy to say that when i was out driving yesterday (the roads had not been plowed yet), that i was impressed with how well people were driving... i think people got the hint that doing 80mph on snow-slicked roads wouldnt be wise (but it was fun
). random!

Not yet, lol. Been heating the crawlspace for about 6 hours now, and they haven't thawed yet. I hope the pipes were buried below the frost line, but I'm beginning to doubt it. To top it off, I've gone through three starters on the Suburban in the past month, finally had to take it in, and it turns out there was hairline cracks in the block where the starter bolts to so the starter kept moving around. It's welded up now, but now it won't start even though it's turning over somewhat. I probably will have to change the flywheel tomorrow, this town is full of nice people though. I didn't have the money for repairs, so I took it into this place and the guy is having me work for him on my other cars besides my own to make up what I owe him. It may turn out to be a job, which is scarce in these parts at the moment, because the guy who worked for him died in a snowmobile accident last weekend. He not only gave me his personal vehicle for the weekend, but his credit card in case I needed gas as well. Geez...sure didn't find people like this in Pontiac, lol.

LOL Swamp.....we're not setting any records, but it's been a few years since we've had this much and it stayed this long. A white Christmas hasn't really been seen around these parts for awhile. We need the mountain snowpack for the remainder of the year's fishing and farming so I can't say too much. But, this is the Montana winter of old that we're having......
Blame it on Canada.....lol

Above 0 today for the first time in a while. 21 degrees right now, but, of course the wind is howling......so the wind chill is around 4. Tomorrow, 2-4 more inches, 30 degrees and winds up to 30 mph. Maybe, we'll get snowed in up in the mountains and won't make it back till spring........Ah, that would be grand.....but, highly unlikely, some do gooder would probably "save us"......LOL

Snowing again here too, and I'm still working on the suburban over at the shop so I'm driving the owner's Subaru...something tells me the Japanese did NOT have snow in mind when they designed these things, lol. Had to dig out 3 times just to get out of the driveway this afternoon. A White Christmas is a definite certainty though!

Hey, Robbie, it's okay to blame us for the cold and snow... Canada just redirects the blame onto Alaska where these polar conditions originate (though I wonder who Alaskans blame-- the Russians, maybe?)

We had a big melt yesterday, then rain, then snow and freezing last night...makes for wonderful driving....
As we speak, it's snowing.....and boy howdy is it. One of those, two inches in 30 minutes type of snows.....I'm hoping it only lasts an hour......lol

Well, it only lasted another 10 minutes after I wrote that....so that's good. Supposed to be 35 today, which would be wonderful to clear these roads of ice. This is what Montana winter used to be and we haven't seen one in years. You should hear the spoiled people bitching.....LOL. On our way home last night came across a guy in a car stuck at the end of the alley, car sunk into the ice/snow crap that the plow had piled there. He wasn't happy at all......lol. Hooked up and pulled him out. Julie is hating life...she hates to drive in this ice, but, at least with the Jeep, she's a little more comfortable......

It's winter in Montana
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below
Oh, how I love Montana
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I'll guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Montana
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground

But you guys get the wind, which of course makes it allot colder. I think I'd rather take 50 below with no wind and humidity versus what you folks get 'down there'. *smile*
Heck once ya hit 30 below, anything colder is all the same. Driving in this stuff is a different story though. Ice fog galore, can't see more than 10 feet in front of ya and your vehicle is filled up with blankets, extra gloves, boots, jackets and ya have to carry the wood stove also. No room for passengers. jk

Well its 71F here today...lmao...sometimes I think San Francisco is on the other side of the equator. We freeze in the summer and get heat waves in the winter.. go figure. Maybe that's why there are so many um... how shall I say?...unbalanced people in these here parts????
I think it was Mark Twain that said, "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco."
They sell more coats here in the summer to tourists than any place in the world.

23 dead and a million without power, I read this afternoon. Pretty bad... I really hope things straighten up soon. This is just what we don't need when times are bad, nature to hammer on us.
And a good friend got stuck on his roof shoveling snow off, the ladder fell down. He had to phone for help. Good thing he had his phone...
About that 22 degree "snap" we had... all the palm trees are losing their fronds, and all the plants in my flower bed are black. Florida plants are really wimpy.

It's pretty bad here right now, alot of snow.
Not too much of a problem for me, but tough for anyone to travel.

Well it is bad up here. Andy will be staying at the office for emergency calls. Try living in an RV during this weather. Who knew I could be this tough! (Ok, ok... he helps keep me tough LOL)

For California, it's pretty cold right now.. and the snow is all over the mountains around the city.....
I always laugh when people find out how gets cold here in the winter....

for the fourth time this winter, we received a deluge of nearly 1-2 inches of snow last night... gasp!
(it will be gone/melted by noon)
we've had a few very cold days, and one 2" snow fall that stuck to the ground for about 3 days - but never stuck to the streets
I haven't seen a winter as mild as this one has been in over 20 years
sorry y'all........... but it's been a grand winter season here, lol!
(I fear though that the "water tables" will pay for the lack of percipitation later this summer unless we get one HECK'UVA'LOT of rain during the spring)
If not............ it's going to be some pretty mild white-water canoeing this year

'My' yard doesn't look like it got 1-2 inches. I'd say a 'dusting'.

funny you should mention the water table.....We've probably had more snow this year than I remember in the past dozen years......so I figured we must be doing good on snow pack in the mountains. Which in turn means a good fishing year with plenty of water in the resevoirs and streams. But, saw an article the other day that said we're behind on snow pack.......even further than last year.....??? I'm still not sure how that could be....but, snow pack is measured by what stays behind, not what comes down I suppose.....

You haven't seen a winter as mild as this one because WE got it all over here, Chris- thanks a lot-LOL
I have to admit, it is beautiful...but Lord, am I SICK of it! Yesterday, the sun was shining all day, I was out driving around half blind during most of it from the reflection on the snow...I know there is grass and roads underneath all of it SOMEwhere, and oh, what I wouldn't give for this stuff to just melt off already-lol

all of the weather news subsequent to my post this morning breaks my heart and brings a tear to my eye, lol
(but the tear isn't enough to count as precipitation)
man'oh'man are the farmers going to whine (more than usual) this year, lol!

Yes, winter is here. Still. With no signs of leaving anytime soon. But at least it's March and what's that saying? If March enters lyin', it exits on the lam, or something like that, right?

well if we were going to have a winter storm this year, it went right by yesterday and forgot to "drop" anything
still a little cool today - around 30, but bright and sunny and the spring warming trend is beginning
it still breaks my heart that we had no, niente, nada, none, zippola' snow accumulation this year
(sniff-sniff)

Well.......2 below this morning with fresh snow.......suppose to warm to 25 above by Wednesday......Seems to be dragging on, but, every year seems like that around this time....just when you want to get fishing......

We're still below healthy snow pack levels according to yesterday's paper. That seems almost impossible.
After 70 in Vegas, it's making this weather really hard to take......LOL
