You could investigate why I keep getting hit by Cyber Instrusion Attempts when I enter chat. My Antivirus Software is working well at blocking these attempts. Glad I have it. Other folks may not be so lucky. Hey....in three days, I'll have 10 years in Mingles. Will you be sending me an award?

1) The pop up adds that open in the chat room kick me out of mingles when I close them.

2) The IM in chat rarely works for me - but it works good if I am not in the chat room

3) It would be fun if a few more people could be docked in the chat room

clean up the forums - there's inactive stuff here over a year old

there's about 50K threads that can be dropped

there used to be an "inactivity" feature that removed all inactive threads more than 90 days old - your server is grinding to a halt (thanks to one specific person who created about 1000 threads in the past 6 months)

as a gold member, I don't get the pop-ups ads that everyone else gets - does everyone else know about that? I used to when you first switched to the current format and you fixed it - THANKS!

if it's possible, change the membership/registration system from email account to IP addie account to prevent these clowns from making hundreds of profiles.

with the current system, all it takes to make a new profile is a new email account which fools easily do with yahoo, gmail, or hotmail.

Using an IP addie restriction instead of the current email account restriction would alleviate most of the scammmers and spammers and lend the DATING site a lot more "net credibility"

I am supposed to be a gold member even sent support the information. I have heard squat from support on this issue.

I agree with having inactive threads deleted after a certain period of time. I'm already use to this format that I really don't mind whether you go back to the old format, or stick with this new one. The few times I've been to chat, I was really impressed with the new features (cam,voice). I personally didn't have problems with pop ups, but it might be whatever Hobbs has installed in my computer that keeps them from popping up.

The invasions of scammers and fakers, well, I wish that could be monitored a bit more. I remember when I first signed up, I couldn't post on the threads for a few days (might have been a week) in order to be approved as a member. Maybe that might be something to reconsider bringing back.

I did like the features we had as gold members to type with different colors and fonts. That was pretty cool. Otherwise, I think you're doing a good job.

1-It would be nice to have a better streamlined mail system.

I don't like having to tell it to do something twice.

If I click to delete or block, I should still have the option to eventually to unblock someone if desired. It's somewhat annoying to have to tell it a second time that yes, I really want to do this and that it cannot be undone.

2-whispering in chat? how do you do this anymore?

I do really like the option for the topic creator having the ability to delete any posts in their forum. This was a great upgrade.

I also notice that my number of posts isn't changing. I have made way more than 32.

The video & audio additions in chat are fantastic, I can't thank you enough for what it's done in my music endeavors.

(Block works great in chat, but block doesn't work at all in the forums.)

I would say this site has a major problem with scammers. Even after reading some of there profiles it's obvious there scammers, and I am also in agreement with getting rid of outdated threads

I had suggested the Suspention thing before and as Cristo pointed out it should be done by IP address otherwise it could backfire on you. Without the IP address tagged a person could open up five windows, under their aliases, and block anyone in the room.

For them to do the same thing with IP addresses registered, they would need 5 PCs. And I seriously doubt that most Minglers have 5 PCS. Two or three maybe, but not 5.

I have also experienced attacks when going into chat with my webcam plugged in. It might be because the Chat session tries to automatically start my webcam. So now I leave it unplugged and that cures it.

I still miss the State forums. I think it was nice to have folks have an easier time finding local people.

be sure to have your cam set to "needs permission to access" or something like that

"pop-up stopper companion" has a free-ware program that pretty much eliminates pop-ups BUT it can also prevent you from opening you're own "pop-ups" like the chat requests here in mingles unless you have it set correctly.

I have mine set on hitting the "control (Ctrl) key" at the same time you click on the "necessary pop-up" (like the private chat feature)

this same program also stops unwanted downloads (that get past your anti-virus) by prompting you to "permit" and once again, I just simply hit the ctrl-key as I hit whatever "allow" button I want

I don't understand why you created this thread.

How many people have emailed you complaining about the hundreds of thread titles that your friend created in an attempt take over the forums? And you did nothing about it.

People have claimed to have written to you to let you know that the server is slowing down because of all of the titles and you've done nothing

People have written to you complaining about all of the fake profiles that your same friend has created so that he could post multiple blocks on people and you haven't done anything about that.

People have written to you about the problems w/ getting tossed out of chat when they log in and you've done nothing about it.

There are so many scammers on this site now that I would think that you have gotten quite a few emails about that too.

And there are people here who have said that when they go after the scammers, the scammers use the block feature on them, eventually making it look like the person with the blocks is the problem, not the scammers.

The site looks great. You've done some excellent things with it over the years. I'm glad that you have google adsense working for you and I hope that you're making lots of money. You deserve it.

But you don't take care of the details that make it stand out as a quality web site. Like monitoring it.

And you no longer listen to the people who have been loyal to you.. some of whom have been here since the year you started Mingles, as well as the new members who are having technical problems.

This site is truly scammer city - the main reason I stopped using it as much.

I think this is a good site. And i have real fun when i read all this forums where people can throw as much shit as they want to eachother.

But there is a problem with all those scammers! And as a newbie to this site, it takes some time to get to know who is and who is not.

We had that information at the bottom of the person's profile at one time, moby...I too would like to see that, also, I agree that we should get back most if not all of the old forum standards, it would be great. While I'm not opposed to having the creater of the thread have control over what stays posted and what does not, it's sometimes very irritating to click into one only to find that the creater had removed 90% of the posts...frustrating indeed. I can't say much about chat since I don't go in there..much...rarely..lol.

In any case, if it's the same as it was from a couple of months back when I stopped for a few minutes, then I say keep it as is.

Also, I think we should bring back the different toons from which to choose from. This weeble-wobble blue faceless pic has become quite boring. At least, with the different toon faces, we could somewhat identify the (new)member's online characteristics by the type/kind of toon they choose to post as their profile pic.

I created this thread because I do care about this site, of course. It's been a part of my life for over 11 years. Despite what you might believe, I actually have a full-time job outside of this. I run this in my spare time and I am the only one working on it. I also have a family and all which that entails. So time is not my friend. It can keep me from accomplishing all the ideas and things I would otherwise want to add to Mingles. That is why I am always trying to come up with automated ways of doing things.

The issue with the scammers drives me nuts. They use ISPs based in the USA to sign up... they post pictures from other people's profiles... I am doing everything I can to lessen it and warn people about it. If you believe there is some automated feature I could add that would prevent them from joining, by all means please post it here.

I try to answer email... can you imagine how much email comes to me from this site??? It is impossible to keep up... but I keep trying to add things to make that easier.

While I can understand the frustration when things are not perfect, there are people that have been here for 8, 9 and even 10 years. There have been marriages, children, all all sorts of relationships. In the end I hope that I've provided something that has brought more good things into the universe than bad.

... and by the way, the problem with the slowdown from the huge number of threads is fixed.

Not sure about this "blocking" thing-a-ma-bob. Obviously, it's subject to abuse.

You're probably right about the potential for abuse with the '# of blocks' on the profile pages... Any suggestions on accomplishing the same thing without it?

If there is no way to determine and deal with the "culprit" who is randomly adding blocks to numerous profiles, I do not have any suggestions to accomplish the objective.

The whole "increase the number of peeps you can dock", should probably be a function of what level member you are. Me being a free member, i'm happy to be able to dock anyone.

The IP address sign up, does that work with wireless, when you have a dynamic IP address everytime you log in?

Scammers, what can ya do? This is the internet, and they have been around for at least the past 16 years that I know of. It is up to each of us to be diligent.

Toons again would be Cool! It's easier to initiate a toon than a blank.

What about a thread that has a list of people who have tried (or succeeded) in scamming members. One site I belonged to used to flag the profiles of known scammers. It would be even better the miscreants couldn't see this if they viewed their own profiles.

I originally created alternate profiles back in the day because it took forever to get a photo uploaded and approved and visible on the prof. I suppose that I could go in and delete them now ( after I save my pix ) lol.

Adding the Toon option back would be good. I'd rather see the face of someone or some photo-like image. The docking is great.

In regards to Scammers, once upon a time we had a thread for that very thing. I am also on a few other sites, and there is an identity-verification option available. I would have suggested this prior to reading your posts Dear Mr Mingles. Basically AFF has a form that wants you to send a copy of your drivers license in with your profile name to have confirmation that you are who you say you are. If your time were not so limited here, I would have suggested this. A badge of sorts could then be applied to one's 'confirmed' identity.

I wish I still had my original prof but the oldest is this one from 2000

sorry christo but thats not possible as an IP address is not constant... most are obtained automatically at connection time. and to base profiles on MAC addresses would mean people couldnt log on to their account from another computer.

The confirm identity function was not a requirement, you merely got a certain .... badge.. if you will. I don't see how it would be sketchy? I have been a member of AFF for almost as long as I have here. You give more information on other applications and raffles. You aren't sending a drivers license to random people, but the the site creator/admin. For goodness sake, think of giving up your credit card information to pay for a membership - that's not more dangerous ? The identity verification would merely put a badge on your profile indicating you are confirmed as who you sign yourself up as. That's all. Blot out your drivers license number if you must but that has the least amount of information to harm you especially since most people don't even have their current address on it.

Actually Mr. Mingles, you can make some technical adjustments here and there, but overall I think that you've done a very nice job of it here.

It's a free website that doesn't feel cheesy. It's well done with a good look and feel to it.

What actually makes this site so unique and I think most here would say "special", has been your personal involvement.

You've sited a number of factors that have happened to you since starting this web site, but at this point, no matter what you do, it has and in my opinion, will always be your personal interaction with the members here that will always set this site apart on the net.

So, when you haven't been able to be here (when it gets weird), those who have been around for a while notice the difference.

The only thing that I think that harms this web site, through no fault of your own, are the scammers and spammers. Because they affect the quality of the experience that you created here.

I'm sure that this is a shared 'event' with all of these web sites and there must be some sort of dialog taking place about how to deal with it.

Anyway.. since we would all like to see you successful, what can we do to help with that?

I would agree the personal touch was part of the attraction here. I get that real life must take precedence.

- Duplicate thread names are not necessary and can be distracting.

- A "Would you like to chat with ______" option would be nice.

It's a pain being pulled into a chat session by someone you don't know especially when you are in the middle of writing something.

- Better troll control options would be good. Perhaps a "block" that works both ways? So far your major troll has found a way around and mocked everything you've done so far. I would like to see Mr. Mingles control this board *if only from a distance*, not some random jerk.

- An ongoing list of what is desired, what IS going to be done and why, or why not, would be nice.

- Blocking automated posting tools might be something to consider.

We would like all this done by Friday. *j/k, j/k!!*

It would be great if you could somehow get rid of all of these Russian/Nigerian/etc. scammers (I know there are a few real ones, though), but I know that's impossible- sorta like trying to get rid of cockroaches, when you get rid of one, here come 50 more to take their place, lol.

Mr. Mingles: I am a membe on Plentyoffish it is also a dating site like this one, only the forums and chat are alot better here. Plentyoffish doesn't have any problems I can see with Scammers! I am having a hard time understanding why there are so many scammers here and not there. But if you can only work on it part time maybe that is the reason!

Not letting, "let".

If you look, this problem child created 500 threads in a short period of time. At least 40 threads about Cimm, 12 about me, none of them pleasant, all created to disrupt.

That's why thread flooding came back, basically out of desparation.

The "problem" has continued so long it's almost funny. But it isn't funny at all.

If you look in the anything goes it is 37,542 posts, that is just way to many and if there is a way most of them should be deleted, just keeping the ones that was posted this week. And the Dating questions on down there is not alot of people who use these options, though they should be there once again all these posts should be erased and we should start fresh and then Mr. Mingles it may be easier for you to see who is actually doing the flooding since you have been on more lately

Cristo hasn't created any duplicate threads or flooded any forums, and nobody has threatened to shoot him, either.

Tck has been very clever about how he floods the topics board.

Under the guise of legitimately creating a thread, he starts putting up numerous thread titles as both an attempt to harass members by making the titles about them and as a way to bury the real, legitimate threads.

Many people heer spent week,s taking turns everyday posting period marks, etc in the real threads to move them to the top where they could be found.

And tck came right back and created more threads to bury them. Some of us worked on shifts at night and some during the day to stop him. Some days he would create 50+ new thread titles.

He flat out wrote to us that "I'm (tck) changing the format here" in the forums. "How do you like it now everybody" was one thread title of his.

And there are many times when he would fabricate lies about people here in order to rattle them. Trolls do that in an attempt to ruin a member's experience on a web site.

I don't know how many people wrote to you about that, but it appeared to be more than just a few.

Everyone tried to ignore him and still he went on.

This happened from late July to late September.

I know you have had more than a few complaints about him and still he's here. There have been others who you have removed for less.

And now that you've put the brakes on the only way to stop him, he has, as of tonight, started to do the same thing again.

This is your business and this is all childish stuff. But you did ask us about how to improve the site.

If one member tells the other members that they are taking over and then disrupts the site in order to create a bad experience for people here, what does that mean if you, the owner don't remove them?

I'm confused by that, as I think a number of other regulars are.

It's been quiet in here since we chased tck out of the forums.. with the exception of imsexy5, people have been getting along and enjoying the discussions.

Please allow me to share, just a small part of a little present that tck left for us to deal with everyday here, in his attempt to hijack all of the forum threads. And please keep in mind, that not only is this is a cut and paste of just one of the pages of the crap from tck that you've left up (one day, he literally created 100 of these threads), but that buried in these thread titles are some real threads by other people.. And then perhaps after reading them all you can tell us if this type of immature action by ONE MEMBER adds or detracts from the experience of being on Mingles.

You are giving the impression to a number of members here, that tck is a buddy of yours and that you have given him free license to do what he wants in the threads.

Yes. Although the forums are unmoderated, and that is by nature a good thing, you could start by "automatically" deleting profiles that are created for the sole purpose of harassing and belittling others. Most of us do that at one time or another, but when that's the sole purpose of posting, flooding, and hurling accusations and insults, it's not too hard to pick up on them. Surely anyone smart enough to create and maintain a website of this magnitude doesn't need to be told who these people are. I admit I don't know all the specifics of the software or programs needed to address IP issues, but I do know it can be done. I was a member of a poetry website many years ago and the technology was already there. I fell into a war of words with another member that spilled over into the general poetry forums, and as a result we were both banned from there permanently. Afterwards I missed reading the poetry there and posting, but even logging on and creating another profile was impossible, because the IP address was blocked altogether. I'm sure Cristo or Cimm or someone more knowledgeable about IP issues could explain how to do it, I just know it's being done on other sites, so it is possible. Even if someone started logging on from another address, it wouldn't take long to figure out they were doing the same thing the originally banned person was. Even IP scramblers are probably detectable now, I'm assuming it's kind of like the radar detectors cops use. Newer models come out, and then the technology comes out to pick up and thwart them as well, and then yet another model comes out, and the cycle starts all over again. But chances are the idiots who spend their life harassing people on websites aren't smart enough to keep ahead of the game. Even if they were and it required a little more time maintaining a site, isn't it worth it if the site generates revenue in the form of advertising, etc?

Just a thought...it's a little fun to smack them around once in awhile, but mostly it's just boring when the faces on the profile change, but the song always remains the same. We're not talking about a rash of "hooligans" here...just a couple with a grip of passwords.

Can you do anything about the popup ad from the banner. it keeps kicking the chatters out of the site and makes it rather difficult to chat. I fully understand to keep things free you have to use advertising but this is way beyond that.

you have a "static" ip address, a great many of ip's are dynamic and subject to change.

As for ID verification, all it takes is a name and date of birth and someone can get anything they need on you to obtain your identity. Furthermore, if I ever felt the need to verify the identification of anyone I am talking or chatting with, its a good sign that I shouldn't bother to associate with that person so, to me, that point is moot.

I do have to agree with keerok suggesting that when someone decides to IM you that it should send an invite instead of just popping up an IM window.
