*I don't think this is conclusively proven, but it's of interest if you fly*
SAN FRANCISCO, California The most energetic particles in the electromagnetic spectrum could pose a danger to commercial airline passengers.
About every 3000 hours of flying time, a plane is hit with a bolt of lightning. Recently, spacecraft have found gamma rays can be created by thunder storms, and according to new research presented at the American Geophysical Union annual meeting this week, the rays could be intense enough to cause radiation sickness.

Kinda on the same topic - anyone feel that cell phone use causes any long term problems due to the electronic signals, the proximity to a person's brain, etc?

An aluminum foil hat should take care of any affects caused by cell phone usage.

There's some question about whether the microwaves cell phones emit are dangerous.
Dunno if it's true or not, but I almost always use an earpiece.

The world is becoming a more dangerous place every day. Asteroids, tsunamis, cell phones, and now gamma ray irradiation as you watch the in-flight movie.
Luckily a few fortunate ones like Lisa have their own protective positive aura and are safe.
How's that for currying favor? *laughing!!*

She can sell Lisa's Protective Positive Aura Shields. With that smile she'll make a million. Will be in the *Product Recommendations* forum for sure. lol

Looks like pilot mojo is good protection. Incredible intact landing on a river, yet!

I'll agree with the microwaves, and the cell phones possibly being harmful as semi 'new' phenomenon, but the flying? This is not 'new' stuff. They just now have the science to measure it.

Heres a few pix of what are called SPrite lightning, a fairly new phenom.
There were some that were investigated during the last Shuttle Disastor.
