every now and then something profund happens a stranger walks by saves a drowning child another stranger comes by and saves a car accident victim some ppl donate to causes to stop child abuse and other progams (ty st.judes) the most awsome are those that dont even relaise that they are someone elses hero or angel they dont seem themselves this way they dont understand why they would be considered such and for the reason being is these ppl are so absolute in there caring that thye become heros and angels with out even knowing it. i have met quite a few on this site and no i will not name names (just in case ) i forget someone but you can bet that if you are considered a friend by me that you fit as either a hero or an angel so hush up and accept it for i call it as i see it and its my rules so a special thanks to everyone ,soilders, medics, police nurses doctors and most importantly FRIENDS

I Love Each of ya for each of ya are special to me

No names Dustin... hmmm how is X going to feel about not being named YOUR special one! LOL

Pssst... I agree that we have earthly "angels" all around us - we just need to look and we will see them. Of course, they may be in costume since life is one grand masquerade party!

Hands, by Jewel

If I could tell the world just one thing

It would be that we're all ok

And not to worry because worry is wasteful

and useless in times like these

I will not be made useless

I won't be idled with despair

I will gather myself around my faith

for light does the darkness most fear

My hands are small, I know,

but they're not yours they are my own

but they're not yours they are my own

and I am never broken.

I know you started this thread Dustin to bestow honors upon individuals here, but I found it an interesting piece and couldn't agree more. I'm sure we've all seen that email about the one teen picking up the books and befriending another teen that was going to commit suicide that day. You just never know what part you're called to play in another's life. When I was a cop it was an expected part of the job to "save" the victim, or be the hero and many times you were a shithead to one person and hero to the other. But, in day to day life, a smile, a comment, a nice gesture is all that's necessary to change someone's whole day. I practice this in my life and it's very gratifying. Would be great if more people did. Inside of mingles? There are many that bring smiles on a daily basis, you're correct there also......

Another Hero in my eyes......

Judge doesn't ban 'God' in inaugural oath

He also declines to prevent ministers from praying at the celebration

updated 2 hours, 23 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - A federal judge on Thursday refused to order the words "so help me God" taken out of President-elect Barack Obama's oath of office next week or to prevent ministers from praying at the inauguration celebration.

U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton turned down a request from a group of atheists and agnostics to force Chief Justice John Roberts not to add those words to the 35-word inaugural oath outlined in the Constitution.

The group, led by California atheist Michael Newdow, also wanted to prohibit Obama's chosen inaugural ministers, the Revs. Joseph Lowery and Rick Warren, from offering prayers at Tuesday's inauguration.

Newdow, who lost a Supreme Court battle to get the words "under God" taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance, has failed in similar challenges to the use of religious words and prayers at President George W. Bush's inaugurations.

I'd like to think that there are many more angels and heroes than those that we know about. Each one of us may have done, what seemed to us, a very little thing at that moment, but meant so much to someone else.

You shared a smile with someone that really, desperately needed it at that moment. Showed some kid how to throw a ball. Reached someone in a crowded room with a story or action.

You probably will never know what impact you might have had on anyone in this world. And maybe we're not supposed to know. Perhaps we're just meant to fullfill a brief chapter in another life without really knowing that we were counted on to make a difference.

Maybe you only have to look into the mirror to find a hero.

Great thread Dustin. I have to agree, the random acts of kindness have often brightened someone's day.

Rollo great point about the mirror.

Robbie great point about not pleasing everyone. In a perfect world maybe, in this one... another story.

Mlady, great song, but then you are the resident DJ!

(That's was great news to see Robbie, I knew about Newdow seeking the injunction. But hadn't seen the outcome. Thanks!)

I have a life filled of angels and heroes. Of course, family, friends, neighbours and associates love me and make sure I know it. But here is an example of one who was not in that group. Her name was Betsy. I don't know her last name. Many years ago (decades lol), I delivered a baby and suffered a life-threatening massive haemorrhage. The doctors (a dozen or so) all knew their roles and worked efficiently and effectively. I came in and out of consciousness and each time all I asked was to let me touch my first newborn babe. After the long ordeal in the surgical unit was over I was brought back to my room and my only wants were to touch my baby. They saved his life and were working at saving mine and wanted me to stay very still. I was strapped to the life-saving machines and with wires and tubes running everywhere I couldnt move. Betsy, a senior nurse came in with my baby and held him against my chest because I had no ability to move my arms. She bathed him beside me and held him in position for this new mom to breast feed him for the first time. She dressed him and placed him nicely snuggled beside me. She rocked him beside me while I rested. When I held him she pulled her chair back and knitted. She taught me about the importance of my babys little head being held against my heart so he could continue to hear the beat of his mothers heart. She placed his tiny hand around my finger and she talked to me about everything a new mom needed and wanted to talk about. This didnt happen for one shift. It happened for the 10 days I remained in recovery in the hospital. The machines were finally disconnected and I was free to care for my baby on my own and Betsy never came in that day. When I was being discharged I asked the Head Nurse what her name was so that I could send her acknowledgement. It was then that I learned that the day they wheeled me back to my room after delivery that Betsy was on her last shift before her scheduled holidays it was Christmas time. Betsy went home and told her husband about the new mom whose only desire in life was to touch her baby but could not at that time because of the fragile state. Her husband said, Oh geeez Bestsy just go back and do what you know you want to do... I will never hear the end of it anyway! She returned to the hospital and without pay and using her vacation, she spent it with me without a word spoken to me about it. The only instructions she left with the Head Nurse was not to tell me her name if I asked. She said to tell me that she thinks I would be one of the best moms ever and to have a Merry Christmas with my newborn son.

An earthly angel = Betsy AND her husband!!!

Its so true that the little things make big impressions, at least to me.

About 10 yrs ago I was driving home when I saw a woman whose car just went flat...so I stopped and helped her change her tire. She was roughly my Moms age. When I was done she tried to give me 5 dollars but I neither needed nor wanted it but I said if you go to church drop it in the box for me.

well about 2 or 3 months later, I was in UPS to pick up a special hat I had ordered and from out of the blue, this woman who I didnt recognize started by saying...."youre the guy...."

I have to admit, I felt a bit anxious being singled out but she told me that I was the one who changed her tire and that she had been praying for me everyday since.

I was really taken back. I believe in the power of prayer but perhaps in a different sort of way than I use to but, nevertheless, it dawned on me or rather I felt convicted that I had NOT been praying for those people who by chance or some other means crossed paths with me.

About the "so help me God" at the end of the oath. I feel that no matter if it was added onto a written oath or not(which was the argument the atheists made), its become a tradition and as long as he doesnt go as far as Bush has in thinking its his higher calling or duty to take this country into areas where the president doesnt really have the obligation, simply coz he feels GOD wants him to, then I'm fine with that.

There was alot of discourse and debate over the god idea for sure.

It was religion, as I understand it that the framer had so much fear of.

Freedom of religion but more importantly FROM religion. Otherwise, we may as well look to say Iran for a model.

Most here have seen me sign off with "Be A Blessing" rather than saying "Be Blessed".

When we verbalize those words, be blessed we have turned ourselves into a nation of people waiting to be blessed.....

The truth is......to be blessed, you first have to be a blessing.....somehow many have forgotten this little equation.......
