...is that condition where a song gets stuck in your head and won't go away, and it's caused by ear worms, better known as those infectious often simplistically repetitive tunes that we hear once and remember forever (or at least the most repetitive and annoying parts of a particular song). At the beginning of each year I usually go into chat for about five seconds and I also create a forum and here it is almost February so it's time to get cracking on one or the other.
So what particular song gives you brain itch? For me, there are several but the worst offender is that Pina Colada song by Rupert Holmes ("IFYOULIKEPEEEENYA-COLAAAAAADAAAAAS..." ) and it's usually that chorus or the clunky instrumental intro that plays and plays and plays over and over and over and over again for hours and hours and hours non-stop. For my nephew, it's that famous (or infamous) song by Sade that places Chicago on the east coast, and every so often I like to phone my nephew and all I have to do is say those two words, "Smooth Operator" and I'm rewarded by several minutes worth of unrestrained cursing as he undergoes his own flare-up of brain itch.
So what song gets into your head and won't easily go away?

Afternoon Delight-Starland Vocal Band
omg, that is THE SINGULAR, most horrid song I've ever heard.
WAIT!
Having My Baby- who sang that awful thing, was it Paul Anka?
He should be arrested for THAT one, hahaha-

And worse, if I mention a song to captain that I can't get rid of, he will hum a few bars of an even worse song, and then laugh because I can't get THAT one out of my head-lol

A couple of songs from a band called '2 Live Crew' stay in my head almost constantly:
"Me So Horny" has a great beat and the lyrics are realistic.
"Im like a dog in heat, a freak without warning. I have an appetite for sex, cause me so horny."

Pretty much any song playing on the AM radio station for me but worse is I have kids who are grown but remember their little school days songs they would sing at campfires that drove me to rolling of the eyes and BIG OBVIOUS sighs back then. Today they are relentless with them... you know them... I can hardly type it: A Hundred Bottles of Beer on the Wall; The Song That Never Ends; The Wheels of the Bus, etc etc etc!!! Oh geeez now I have that stupid 100 bottles of beer playing in my head again! Thanks Biff!
PS, Please, if you make your 5 minute visit into Chat, set a time so I can be there to meet you and if heaven will smile upon me please have a cam on so I can see your facial expressions while you make your annual 5 minute visit. Everyone deserves a good laugh and yes, I would laugh to see that happen! (because you most likely dont know or remember how to block the offensive ones and so you will have full exposure in those 5 minutes - please... please be on cam and tell me when. I may even take a few off of block for those 5 minutes just for the full affect of it all!!! lol)

some of those songs work great for entertainment. Try walking around whistling if i only had a brain and see how many others end up doing the same or singing it.

Rockin Robin, this goes back over 30 years and can pop into my mind at the most inconvenient time. Didn't really care for it new. Can't stand it now.

"Muskrat Love"...the captain and tenille have been number one on my assassination list for a very long time. If they come anywhere near me on a bad hair day those two are toast.

Ha!
I can't believe America did that song too (Muskrat Love).
And further can't believe people actually like it when I play it, lol.
(I play damn near every song America ever did, they were the best!)

I equate this to the "48 hr Flu" since the song changes constantly.
Thursday I was invaded by "I'm a little tea pot!" of all damn things.
Tuesday I was watching a troupe of proposal writers running back and forth from the print server and kept hearing "Brazil" running through my head. (Like from the movie scenario)
Last week I conducted a "Go/No Go" meeting and opened in up with my "Dragnet" ringtone on my phone.
I guess the closer we are to music the more it triggers the tunes. Who knows.

Oi, mLady, a five MINUTE visit? The thought of 5 minutes in chat sounds more like punishment than a visit, heh heh. But it's 2009 and a brand new year, and whenever I can get organized enough, I'll fulfill my annual obligation to myself to go into chat (and maybe try out the webcam that came with the laptop and see if it works). And if you're around for this annual occurrance, maybe I'll see you in chat.
There's been some mentions of other songs that also seem to run through my head and Rockin' Robin was one, especially that twiddley-diddly-dee/twiddly-diddly-diddly part (although I can imagine the Ned Flanders character from the Simpsons singing that part). "My Baby Does The Hanky-Panky" by Tommy James and the Shondells (I think) is another tune, same with "I'm Henry the Eighth I Am" by the Herman's Hermits. It's weird how it's the songs that are most annoying are the most persistent.

Cherish, Crimson and Clover and Tip toe through the tulips. YUCK. I, too, love band America!
