Fixing up the fence, building a deck and a new shed... and of course gardening. My new deck will have built in flower pots so Im looking forward to getting to that stage of it and planting them all. Canoe club opened this week so some quiet trips through the marsh following the gooslings is fun! What are you doing to enjoy the season?

This is our third spring in the new house and this year we are trying to take care of our flower garden. One of the previous owner planted a beautiful flower garden and we had no clue how to care for it. So this year we are giving it an honest attempt and it's working out nicely. Planted to veggies different places around the property and of course all the spring yard work that has to be done. Trying to rivive my trees from last springs freeze and this springs 26" of snow that bent the weak trees over.

Fishing of course, have done OK, but waiting for the water to go back down and the action will get much better.

Preparing for kids. My son got out of the Army and is on his way home. My twin son's that live in PA. are coming out again this year for a week Jun 19th to fish. And Julie's daughter that lives in Pittsburgh is planning a trip home in August.

Other than that, working as much as I can to catch up from a slow winter in construction.......

HW, one of those joggers already spotted you. You're already the target of discussion in the chat room as a result. (You should have drained a little of that steering fluid out before you left)

Actually, the steering gear box is not quite potty trained as it's constantly leaking fluid.

But do tell, why would lil' ol' me be a topic of discussion? *l*

Actually this all could have been avoided, HW...remember that jogger on Pismo Beach with the sunglasses and hat spun around backward that you swerved to avoid?

You should have let Bob take the wheel. Every dog needs to have his day. With a little therapy, I'm sure he would have been alright.

CC, I might have swerved, but Bob is a smart dog and quickly opened the door at the precise moment. Still worthy of chatroom discussion, eh?

Our carbon footprint and steering fluid will be left in Ontario and perhaps a bit of Quebec, Mlady.

taking daughter fishing and shooting, culling snapping turtles from the ponds while there(fuuuuun)with the little marlin model 60 with 3x9x40mm scope, and for the first time didnt catch channel cat when taking the daughter night fishing, bought her a nice little ruger highpower pellet rifle with 40mm scope to replace her redrider bbgun, cant wait till she gets to open it for her 7th bday next month.

got stuck in a pit while cleaning up an oil spill,a backhoe tried to pull me out but i couldnt hold on as it was too slick,so turned it around and used the bucket...it streched my new boots out...dang people had too take pictures before they got me out, lol, joked that i was a couple inches taller now after they stretched me like that with the backhoe.

Adam.....your life appears to be one that is misunderstood by many in this "new and improved peaceful society" we live in. But......ahhhhhhhhh what a great life style it is. Glad to see it still carries on in the heart of America. Your daughter is learning many good things by spending time with you. Keep up the good work and raising of your children that they may carry on the strength of middle America.

Flower sounds like a dream......enjoy

Cris.......Happy traveling.....the east coast, where I'm from (Jersey) is always a great place to visit and 6 days is about the length of time I can stand it.....LOL

Heading to Gulf of Mexico (Bay of Campeche) for approx. 1 months work and then to Texas Gulf Coast for a week in Beach House with all 18 of my offspring. Am really looking forward to boiled crabs(caught, not bought) and fishing. And teaching little ones about the flora and fauna and present wildlife. It's an annual event. Have various cousins come every year too with thier children. Great time had by all. Everyone welcome to drop in. Always an extra setting around the table at my place.

Tomorrow is adjusting the elevation in my yard before the first steps of preparation fo the layout for the deck - I'm thinking about a built-in kitchen with a grill and gas top burners and oven for the complete outdoor kitchen but it maybe too big of plans for me - so im weighing it out with a normal garden deck with gas bbq or a bricked in section for outdoor kitchen remember this is a do-it-your selfer... really I should sell the house and find a grass hut on an island somewhere and be a walking explorer for the rest of my life... okay maybe on a quad. LOLOL Geeez, why did I have to type that - now I will be daydreaming it with every shovel full of loam as I level things away from the foundation tomorrow!!!

Just don't forget to leave the positive drainage pam.......smile

Went to one of my favorite creeks on Wednesday evening to see if the water was getting fishable. Jules and I caught about 20 trout in 2 1/2 hours on the creek. So, it's definitely fishable!!! Today was going to be yard work, but knowing the trout are biting is distracting me.......so.....better just go fish....wink

Another good day on the creek!! Jules had equipment problems today which slowed her down, but, we still caught fish. The stretch we fished on Wednesday produced mostly rainbows and a couple of brookies. Today the stretch we fished produced some beautiful brown trout. Also one or two rainbows and brookies on the smallish side. The browns were nice, 15-16 inches and fat (1 1/2 - 2 lbs) which is nice for a stream you can jump across in spots.......and wade the rest.

I have a hard time picturing what it must be like to live with seasons. I've only got two - beach season, and hurricane season. I'm going camping at the springs to celebrate.

I need a way to kill time when I'm there, and thought about Ron tying flies, but I'd feel pretty bad if I broke their little wings off trying. You must be pretty nimble, Ron

Some of the best fishing I've ever done was in tiny streams you could step across. One memorable day I had a take every time the fly hit the water. Little brookies all in the 8-10 inch range. Not braggers by any means, but very tasty.

Yup.....I love the brookies myself Ron and I think they are a little behind getting upstream this year......and 8-10 inch is the norm with an occasional lunker of 12 or so.....lol.

I do love to float the river and catch trout in the 18-22 inch range, but since I grew up on small streams back east my heart stays there....and I still believe the fish are 'scrapier' in those smallish streams.....smile

TCK.......what beach this weekend?? Probably one of my old haunts from my teen days......

The secret's in using very fine thread.

LOL. Seriously, its not difficult to tie flies. The basics can be learned from books or on-line instruction; however, to learn the more advanced techniques, you'll want some formal instruction. But even with just the basics you can tie flies that will catch fish.

Robbi - when I read your posts I can't help think about the movie with Robert Redford in it (A River Runs Through It???)- in particular you remind me of a few fishing scenes in that movie - first fishing with his dad as a boy and then as an adult. I love streams and rivers... I live within minutes of walking from the Bow River and I see people from around the world who have come to fish in an area that I rarely take advantage of... I drive by it many many times a day in my mad dash to try and make a living... forgetting that I was actually made to live!

Pam, you live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The Bow is world famous and is indeed a gorgeous river. And it isn't really that far to the Rockies from where you are either. Load up the car, hit the road and head to Jasper for a few days. It will do you good.

And the movie you're thinking of was indeed "A River Runs Through It," based on the semi-biographical novels by Norman Maclean. Robert Redford directed it; however, he doesn't appear in the movie. The cast does include Craig Sheffer, Brad Pitt, Tom Skerritt and several others.

dangit...ron and robbie, all this talk of trout and brookies, ive never fished for either, always wanted to though,...someday,someday.

we only have crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish,(flathead and channel)dont get me wrong im grateful for the great fishing we have with the endless ponds here all over, and rivers,...but trout and brookies...dang.

a friend gave me some trout from his trip somewhere a long time ago,i remember i didnt have to clean it,just cook it and the skin just peeled off with a fork gently,...fish you can just gut and cook...amazing,tasted great too.

our flathad will occasionally snatch and swallow a coon off the bank, they get HUGE.

i imagine there might be someplace around kansas that has trout and brookie, but ive never fished on public places, dont know anything about them yet,...i suppose it would have to be a state that has mountains, mountain streams,...we have nice rolling hills though,...gonna be daydreaming about trout and brookie while i work now today, thanks a lot people, lol

Thinks everyone has something planned in someway or another. Me I'm meeting up with some old friends from outta town, I'm playing the tour guide to Ottawa, where to go and where not too. Along with them & a hot adorable blonde bomb shell I'll be bizzie for a month or 2. We may even run into Shygrl for some fun playing billards and sipping back the odd pint. Take Care all, be safe in what ever it is U do and have fun, life is far too serious. We need the down time to relax & recover, beside daily visits to Mingles should help with the laughs, people can be so unbelievably humourous.

Ahhhhhh, TCK, I forgot that you're further west than I thought. I was thinking you went to the Joisey Beach, you know the fun, sun and toxic water beaches, LOL. Never been to Erie myself, but it looks awesome.

Pam, that was a good movie and brought alot of attention to Montana. I'm about 40 miles away from a world class section of the Missouri River that entertains fly fishermen from around the world. And, like you the born and raised people here don't appreciate what they have most of the time. I travel the state in search of the "uncrowded" perfect fishing hole, lol, but I do love the mountains mostly and the streams it provides.

Adam, you're welcome up here anytime. I would gladly help you get into some great trout fishing. My twin boys live in Pa. and are coming this Friday for a week of fishing. We try to fit it all in when they are here, streams and rivers, walking and floating. They love it since all the trout in Pa. are stocked and of course smaller than we're blessed with here. And like anyone else, I'd love to have more bass/crappie fishing here so we could change it up some. We've got Walleye, perch, pike and the sort, but travel is a necessity for them from where I live.

I've fished for just about every species available in North America (no flatheads or yellows yet). Over the years I've used just about every legal means to catch them too.

But about 25 years ago I was out fishing with my brother for brookies. We had light fly tackle with 6/0 tippets (imagine two or three human hairs twisted together if you want an idea how strong they are). We were expecting the usual pan-sized brook trout.

After about half an hour, I had a take: a big, strong 6 lb rainbow. And I landed it! Twenty minutes later I caught his twin! It was a rush. And ever since then, I have fished with nothing but a fly rod.

An even bigger rush will come the first time you catch a fish on a fly that you've tied yourself.

Robbi, what do you use for tackle? I pretty well stick to a 9' #8 weight graphite rod with a variety of lines and leaders. I find that set-up is adaptable to many situations from smallmouth to brookies to salmon. I'be been thinking of getting a #2 weight though.

I fish whatever flies work. Nymphs are among my favorite followed by streamers like a Mickey Finn or a Muddler Minnow (which of course can also be fished wet or dry as well). I'm also partial to coachman patterns for dries. I have a neat variation of the Royal Coachman that I tie spent with white poly wings and no hackle: its deadly.

I gave up fly fishing years ago when time in my life became an issue. Now I just use hard tackle and garden hackle. Rip em and zip em.......lol. Fly fishing is great, however, I spend time making fun of them now......LOL. I've also fished many of the North American species and each is a pleasure different from all others. My favorite? Probably salmon in Alaska or steelhead in Idaho.......Check out Shilo7's profile for a couple of good pics from Alaska.......I didn't know her back in my time up there, but I lived in the same town she does now......

Probably not this year, but next I'm going to try to get a trip lined up with Hunter Rep to fish steelhead in Oregon........

Steelhead sounds fun.

If you ever get to Eastern Canada, let me know. I'll hook you up with my brother (he's a registered guide and a mover/shaker in the Nova Scotia Salmon Association). He can get you out for some Atlantic Salmon. A nice Atlantic fresh from the sea will spoil you for any other species. But you'll need to brush up on your fly skills, LOL.

Made it to Canada (GTA) without incident. Filling up now with litres of petro, instead of gallons of gas.

Heading to Ottawa soon, where I will advise the PM on how to run this country. *l*

Then hopefully Quebec and Vermont.

Sounds like the trip is moving along smoothly HW. Quebec and Vermont eh? That'll be nice. Spent some time there and love the beauty. Would be special to cruise it in a vehicle such as you're motoring. Have fun and I pray all goes well with the remainder of the trip.

Ron.....I should own stock in Panther Martin. That's my weapon of choice in both the river and streams here. Gold spinners with a black or green body seems to work most of the time. Rapalas for browns work well at certain times. Worms for early season before the trout are moving fast. I've been known to float a wooly bugger with my spinning tackle though about 3-4 feet below a clear bobber. I spent two years at Loring AFB in Maine and did some great fishing/hunting up there, including Canada. Wish I woulda had the contact of your brother back then, would have been a definite bonus.

Panther Martins and Rapalas. Hmm. Sounds like my old tackle box before I switched to flies.

Biggest smallie I ever caught (6 1/2 lbs) came on a Rapala. I was reeling in and my lure just stopped. I thought I'd snagged a rock, so I gave it slack to float free and started reeling again. The lure stopped again, so I gave it slack again and repeated the process. After about 3-4 attempts I decided that I must have really hooked up on a log or something, so I gave it a yank. . . and that was when all hell broke loose.

Never had a smallie hit like that before or since. I have a picture of it somewhere. I'll post it if I ever find it.

well...as many of you know,i have a little dog,a jack russell terrier named bell that wont hunt, deal with varmints,etc...a dog i dont particularly care for, today in a conversation with a bunch of guys,i again said i thought a good hunting beagle was about the best bang for your buck, rabbit taste better than squirrel, coon, and quail, etc, and is plentiful, open season all year round, whereas bird dogs only get a short season each year, and quail have been down in numbers for a long time,...they told me of a supposedly good strain of hunting beagles,so i bouhgt a cheaper male today,12 weeks old,for 200 dollars, then sold the breeder 4 goat kids for 265dollars,my daughter informed me she named him shilo,so i guess i dont have to rack my brain thinking up a name.he's such a longbodied cute little thing, soon as i got him home, put him in the tub,and daughter and i baptised him into the family,...looking forward to hunting with him,i never used a dog on rabbit before, excited about it...hope hes a good hunter

right on Adam........I used to run beagles for rabbit as a kid. Only problem I had was when the dog decided to run deer.......ended up having to shoot her......hopefully you don't have that challenge.......

Fishing has been good so far this week........alot more to come......

Grats on the dog, Adam.

This reminds me of an incident involving my brother's dog. Years ago he was given an Irish Setter by a guy who was transferring and couldn't take the dog with him. The dog's name was Barney, and was obviously from hunting stock, what with his barrel chest, broad head, and shorter-than-show-dog legs.

So one day my brother and I took Barney into the field. What a dog. He worked the field perfectly! About 30 yards ahead of us, moving back and forth between us and constantly alert. Suddenly he went on point. Picture-perfect, he stood there trembling with excitement but not flinching.

So my brother ordered Barney to flush. There were two ruffed grouse holding in some tall grass. Barney split the pair, with one going left and the other straight away. We couldn't have asked for a better flush. My brother and I fired at the same time and got both birds.

But Barney had departed for parts unknown! It took us nearly an hour to find him, cowering under a bush!

ron-lol,...but that would be a terrible thing to have time and money invested in a dog and have them turn out to be gunshy, this pup is super easy going and laid back, when i met him yesterday he laid prone, face on his paws at my feet, wondering if hes shy, extreme submissiveness,idk,..the kennels he was in had mostly large aggressive dogs and lots of greyhounds, some wolfhounds for coyotes,so...maybe hes just a little shy from being around large kill dogs all his life so far,idk anything about beagles.

robbi-i just read an article that said deer scent placed on a mouse trap while they are still pups, will teach them not to get distracted by deer, supposedly it doesnt have to be done twice, sounds reasonable i guess,...but i know a guy around here who uses his beagle for tracking wounded deer only(hes a bowhunter,i never have that problem with my marlin model 336 lever action 30-30)

im reading as much as i can find about beagles, ive always loved the idea of hunting with hounds, even if its easier to get more game without a dog, lol.

ive always used a .22 for rabbit, shooting them when they stop to look back after the initial bound, but i suppose a dog hot on their trail wont let them stop,so im not looking forward to using a shotgun instead,i dont like spitting lead shot out while i eat,but still excited about it...guess i better go get a rabbit to put in the freezer to start working with shilo...did your beagles tree squirrel also?im wondering about multiple game,or if that would ruin them...idk

It is best to use a shotgun when hunting bunnies with a dog. I used a .410 a lot over dogs and never had much trouble. a 16 or 20 ga is probably more than enough gun. I've never tried beagles with birds, but I know of some guys who swear by them for upland birds, especially pheasant, since they will often run rather than fly from a traditional flush: with a beagle chasing them they have to take wing sooner or later.

And Adam, we eventually cured poor old Barney. We spent a few afternoons in a farm field busting clay pigeons with his leash tied to a nearby tree. He didn't like it much at first, but he eventually became a great gun dog. He fancied himself a fishing dog too. . . I remember him jumping out of the canoe after a smallie that I'd hooked. . . he thought he was going to retrieve it.

shop-lol,...mary jane,i need to send belle to texas,so shell be happy to see you when you get back from mexico,...but ive got to warn you, shes not smart enouhg to eat out of an automatic feeder,...shell just stare at it and starve, occasionally shell break down and stick her head in there, shes only good for a lapdog, shes housetrained, but if the weather is bad,she completely forgets her housetraining, and if you have varmints running around your place, she wont even notice they are there...she just sits there and looks at you, dang dog,my daughter says its ok...that belle is just a pacifist.

im a bit concerned about this beagle pup i just bouhgt, ive had him almost 24 hours now and hes just a lapdog,he seems shy,but maybe there just really mellow,im not used to having dogs that need to have their confidence built up,i hope i didnt buy a dud,he just seems afraid sometimes, not bold at all,is that normal for a beagle pup?

the large breed dogs ive had thought they could take on the world when they were pups, and i had to hold them back.

did you use hides to train maryjane to tree,or did she do it naturally?did you use a rabbit carcass to train her on or did she come by it naturally?

maybe this little hound will get belle motivated...

ron- the 410 used to kind of be the staple for small game on the run,but now its high cost seems to have made it obsolete,i think 16 gauge is getting hihg too, though i loved a 16 gauge i once had,it was so worn it about pumped itself,id like to find a good used double barrel 12 or 20 gauge, and use a lihgt load in it,seems most economical,410 shells used to be the cheapest, now theyre the hihgest, unless there is a source im unaware of,410 would be perfect thouhg,...maybe i ouhgt to start a thread asking if anyone has an old used double barrel, side by side or over under, doesnt matter to me,in the 100-150 dollar range.

glad to hear barney worked out after all,my friend roy just drove by my house and honked and shilo bolted away to the back of the house, but he came back, when i shoot with belle around(.22),she comes and cowers at my feet for protection, and the shells end up landing on her...she is always interested in my bass and catfish though

A wonderful father's day it was.......three of my son's here and fishing to be done. Even though I worked a half day in the morning we headed out to the creek in the afternoon/evening. This creek is a little larger and the water was running high from rain we've had, but the fishing was great. Large brown trout, couple of rainbows. Everyone caught fish and had a great time......These guys from Pa that are here with my son's are as giddy as little kids. Catching 17 inch browns from a stream is amazing to them.......can't wait til Thursday when we float the Missouri River in rafts and they hook up with 20+ inchers........

Adam, check out the site below for less expensive ammo. They're still making .410; however, since most of it is loaded in paper, it tends to be a bit pricier. Shopping around helps.

I'll keep my eye open for some guns that might be for sale.

i shot with shilo rihgt next to me today,he never left my side, didnt seem to bother him,he sure is a happy go lucky little hound, cracks me up to watch him run/waddle around with a big ol smile on his face, put him on a rabbit trail, the rabbit was 25-30 feet away,he didnt do anything, but hopefully later after working with him some, the breeder said he should be a year old before i expect to much out of him as a hunter, that seems a little long to me

Ahem!!! First, cute dog Adam! Second... rabbits... as in Thumper?!?!?! Geeeez... thats like saying you're going to eat a cat or something! (Ewwwww)

When I was 8 yrs old, I woke up on Easter morning to find that THE Easter Rabbit himself, for real, gave me ("the privileged one"wink lil baby Thumper to raise for "HIM" with an authentic letter written to me from him with the lil bunnies story. I almost died when I (later in life) found out that people eat rabbits! I'm pretty much sure that back then at 8 yrs old I would have turned over a brother or two before I would have let anyone hurt Thumper! lol

Robbie, I love your fishing entries... they are luring me to the river! smile Your Fathers Day sounds like a wonderful day!

On Father's Day I went for an 8 hr drive through the mountains with my camera (the only thing I know how to shoot) and with my iPOD playing my favorite songs - I got some great "shots" of big horn sheep; mountain goats; deer; moose; hawks; eagles; etc. Summer is great but its passing too fast this year for me... my garden is growing like crazy yet it seems like yesterday when I planted. The DECK is on hold for my next day off (who knows when) to tackle the first stage... thx Robbie - I will send you an email as soon as I figure out what I want... I have pieces in my mind and I dont know how to bring them together. lol

Let's see... Work on house, work on garden, weed whack, weed whack...

Actually, I am waiting to see what is a real plant and what is weeds. Planted the weigela, rose and hydrangea. Have 2 lilacs to plant. Got Andy a cultivator for father's day. Then we have all the trim to scrap and paint. The workshop needs stain. Propane tanks were delivered yesterday. So inside the house the second floor rooms need some fixing up (ceiling and paint, the guest bedroom set is in the workshop), the tankless water heater installed...But the front loaders are doing fabulous!

I still need to upload all the pics (none yet of the loons... it's a zoom thing, but I did get the lunar moths!) All the pics need to be updated because I have added/changed things.

So soon I hope to have all the photobucket albums set. House fire pics, new house pics before moving in and current new house pics.

Our neighbors are awesome, one gifted us with beach rights.

Only perch in the pond Rob, but the deer and moose are bountiful!

Yes, the fire was traumatic, but this new place is everything I wanted to do at the old place and couldn't. (ie Laundry/mud room, screened porch and larger bedrooms) The old place was 720 sq ft this is 1500 sq ft with the additional 800 sq ft of workshop! LOL, I am still getting use to having so much space!

H_W How fun is that... a "drive-in" movie. I remember them as a kid and (of course) as a teen but they ALL came down by the time I was an adult. I tell my kids about drive-in movies from time to time and they look at me the same way that I looked at my mother telling me about how she used to gather around a radio for the Sunday night radio mystery plays. I didn't know they still had them running... I will have to update the family! LOL

This drive-in was at Miller Park in Milwaukee. The attendants saw Bob and said, "We don't allow dogs in the park." I said, "You calling my date a dog??" They then let him in without further hassle. The "A" doesn't have a radio, so I had to bring a portable to listen to the audio.

When I parked, I did not see a movie screen. All of a sudden, the screen started inflating. It was held in place with tether lines. Pretty cool.

There's a drive-in theatre close by here in Ontario. One of our collector car friends does "animaltronics" for movies. We're getting a group of Model A's to go see one of his films at the drive-in. Should be fun.

Wow. Last year I got through the summer without having to plug the A/C in. Today its 29 degrees (celcius of course). Thats just a bit too warm for my tastes, so I ran to the local department store and bought a new window unit. Ahhhh bliss.

And Pam, before you tell me to suck it up, I checked Calgary's weather. . . you're enjoying a nice temperate 23 degrees. tounge

Haven't been to a drive-in in about 5-6 years. Saw Scooby-Doo. It brought back some memories.

There was a big drive-in about 15 minute's walk from my house when I was growing up. We'd sneak in after the show started and watch from the back with our girlfriends and occasionally some liquid refreshment. I'm sure the police knew we were there and what we were doing, but they left us alone. . . it was better than running around causing trouble.

ron-your good at knowing where to find things on the computer,so...an old man i know here at work, hes retired but still hangs around the oil buisiness everyday, told me he'd sell me his d.b.410 for 300$,i looked it over,i'm guessing its at least 50 years old,but its simply built with no parts to go wrong,it says ....(crescent firearms company),(norwich connecticut) on 1 side,(new empire) on the other, and the serial # is 15706,and the front bead looks like a little pearl(of course its not)

on what link might i find something about it?

i told him id let him know tommorow,i offered him 200$ today, but he wouldnt take it.

Crescent hasn't been around since 1935 (at least not under that name). You may have a legitimate collectible; however, whether it is serviceable or not could be another question.

You need to be careful if the gun was manufactured prior to 1930, as prior to that time many "bargain" guns, Crescent's among them, were damascus-barrelled and are therefore only suitable for black powder.

aha! found it,apparently it was made betwwen 1888 and 1899,any parts ever needed would have to be fabricated, and modern ammo might be a problem with such an old shotgun

Yup. It could well be worth more than the $300.00 asking price, but only as a collectible. Those old damascus barrels won't stand up to the chamber pressures generated with modern ammunition.

As far as fabricating parts, there are many very talented gunsmiths out there who can do it. Hell I could do it if I had a shop to work in (one of the many courses I've taken over the years was a gunsmithing course). But don't under any circumstances fire that gun with modern ammunition!

Adam. It depends on what you are going to use it for I think. If you are going to use it often, then I think it is not really what you should put your money on. But if you like it as a collectible, then it's ok I think. But just as Ron said. Be careful with ammo!! If you want to have a gun for "daily use" and somewhat cheap. Then I would put my money in an old German like sauer & son or a Gbr. merkel. Or even an old Husqvarna. Cost about 50- 100. And you never have to think so much about service and so on. A little bit of oil here and there, and they work forever.

Buy it Adam. It was originaly manufactured and sold before Gun Control Act of 1968. Was in all probability never registered. Ever! And before they pass the "Gun Show Loophole" legislation. Near to impossible to trace when it becomes manditory to turn in. (Yea, Laugh) Its the only kind I will buy now.

I'd say buy it too. And its not like its completely unusable. But if you do want to use it, you'll need to invest in reloading equipment so you can make your own ammunition using black powder (not a good plan) or pyrodex (a black powder substitute).

Sorry adam, but I disagree on the purchase of "dat dar'shootin'iron"

Having had the displeasure of having to deal with a lot of estate sales and auctions in the past 3 years - and in the states we live in (especially YOUR state, lol) - I've learned a few things about the "value" of used weapons...

First and foremost - IF it was worth anything (family value, heirloom, etc) the gun would NOT be available at that price as it's TRUEST value in "our states" is based upon it being a "working tool/weapon" (it's not - it's weak/etc and you've seen it's issues so only you know)

- if it's 'not a working tool" - and it's value was hairloom or family/etc - it wouldn't be for sale

There are basically NO gun laws in your state (unless you count the requirement to get a carry-permit, lol) and that means that in KS - you can buy a LEGAL weapon out of someone's trunk in the wal-mart parking lot (for those who would gasp and argue that point - google KS gun laws, lol)

In KS and here in MO where I live (and many many other states/places, I'm KNOW) ... rifles/shotguns/pistols/etc are the FIRST THING SOLD at auctions and estate sales and the bidding is swift and quick BUT - nobody will bid/pay for a weapon that's NOT functionable or 'bid' outside it's value.

There are people that go to those auctions/sales for the SOLE purpose of getting a GOOD WORKING weapon of VALUE

IF IF IF it's an older weapon that's worth anything (such as WORKING/FUNCTIONABLE or 'in the family' or heirloom - IT'S NOT FOR SALE, lol) - it wouldn't be in the auction/sale - it's staying in the family in one capacity or another

Don't let the ole'retired guy "get'cha" - he's dumping it for a reason (check and COMPARE prices of WORKING models of the same weapon)

It's a "flea" (a 'bad deal' at a flea market)

Actually I did see one posted on one of the sites I visited priced at $150.00. So $300.00 might be a bit steep.

It is entirely possible that the owner is selling it because there is no usable commercially available ammunition for it.

I would, however, suggest getting a gunsmith to give it the once-over before investing. I would suggest that for any used firearm, by the way.

11pm.......getting the pontoons ready to go. We rented two rafts for tomorrow and will have my two pontoons. Going to float the mighty Missouri river in search of the big fish. So far this week we've been fishing all streams and the largest fish was an 18 inch brown trout. A few in the 17 inch range and many 16 and smaller. Tomorrow we should be in the 20+ range with rainbows and browns. My son's and their friends from Pa. are having a blast.....and the old man is enjoying it immensely. Supposed to be 90 degrees but the wind is supposed to come up in the afternoon. Should be a good day......the float is about 8 hours, 7 if the wind blows.....lol. We'll see who catches the biggest.....might still have a lesson or two for these youngins......LOL

Baikal makes a really nice O/U in .410 which I've fired before. They tend to be a bit heavier than some brands, but that extra weight actually can be a help rather than a hindrance, as a bit more weight mitigates felt recoil (not that there's much recoil from a .410).

Robbi, it looks like you have a great trip lined up. Hope to see some pics on your profile. I'm hitting the water Saturday, but I don't expect anything truly memorable since the area I'm going is predominately over-fished smallies and the odd pike.

Hm, Baikal makes real good guns (I had two) but the quality is not the best however. So you need to check out the specific gun if you buy a new one. And caliber 20 is an excelent choise. It actually have a little bit higher velocity than a cal.12. However, if you have a cal 12 and a cal 20. and you happen to mix the ammo up. Be aware that the cal 20 will be stucked in the middle of the barrel of the cal 12. And in "the heat of the fire" when it just click, and you might not see it. and put a cal 12 in the barrel. then it is very dangerus!. Another idea is to try to find a Valmet 412. With that one you will be able to change the barrels and caliber just as you want. From cal 12 or 16. Up to 9.3X74 mauser. And it is not that expencive as a german. And you can buy the barrels from a Tikka 512. they fit. However, the tikka is made in Italy. and has a bit lower quality than the finnish made Valmet. But the barrels from Tikka is good.

Those are all fine recommendations, but nothing compares to the DISINTEGRATOR Gatlin.

Check out the video demonstrating loading of the unique ammo and devasting power:

Heavy artillery for the beach. Gotta love it. I like that the balloons are bio-degradeable too. Fish, birds and turtles can mistake balloons for food and wind up choking. For that same reason, one should never use balloon floats while fishing.

As for the pirates, well come on up to Hamilton harbour and sink a few for me will ya? Especially the ones who vandalize the carp barriers and let the damn carp into Coote's Paradise.

What a great day on the river!!! Sun (= sunburn), fishing and the scenic Missouri river. The river is still running high, about 5 feet so the fishing was slow, but the trout are extremely healthy this year. I caught the first fish of the day, a nice 17 inch brown which is not a keeper. Jules caught the largest fish of the day, 20 1/4 inch rainbow which tipped 2 lbs easy. The daughter Tiff probably caught the most fish with some nice ones, rainbows in the 16-19 inch class. Everyone caught fish, but us seasoned anglers, the ones that chase fish on a regular basis, the ones that spend hundreds of dollars a year on equipment, gas etc. got our asses kicked by a couple of girls........LMAOOOO. Was a great day!!!! And the smile on Jules face was priceless and worth everything that was put into the trip.....smile

Gotta watch out for those girls, Robbi. They'll out-fish you every time and leave you wondering where they learned how.

On another note, my daughter (who gets bored with fishing by the time her rod is rigged) just asked me to teach her boyfriend how to fly-cast. Should I be reading something into that?

H_W, I still have a 12 shooter rubber band gun. Lots of great fun with it. Had to bring it home from work 10 years ago because they said it looked to much like a gun. What fun would that gatlin gun be to raid the office area at work. grin

It's 7:30 AM on a beautiful saturday sunny summer morning and I have a few minutes to be outside spray painting the fence with the rented paint machine - dang that Home Depot for being open so early! The fence should look great in hours - cant wait to strike ONE thing off the summer do-it-youself list! The deck is next and another raised organic garden box immediately after the deck! Summer = outdoor projects and winter = indoors this year. I sooooooooooooooooo much want to move into one of the homes where its all done and in good repair and all the colors, fixtures, etc are reflective of this decade! lol. Thank goodness I don't know how to install new windows or that job could land on my to do list too... ( I will not google it... I will not goodle it... I will NOT google it... repeated 100 times!) lol Happy sunny days everyone!

Windows are easier than you think. I can send you the info along with the deck.......LOL......

My last day with the boys was awesome. Probably the best fishing day we've had all week and definitely some good time spent together. We fished a stretch of creek up further than any of us had ever been and caught some real nice ones. Released them all and most were large brown trout, 16 inches plus. Since no girls were with us I caught the largest measuring in at 19 1/2 inches. The trout are so healthy this year I can't believe it. It had to weigh in at 2 1/2 pounds at least. This morning I put the boys on the airplane for Pa. Two more years and they will return for another week of wearing the old man out.......LOL.

Ron.......if you read into it.....you'll be wrong.....LOL. She is a young woman after all......but, maybe you'll gain a fishing partner through the ordeal......smile

Robbi, are you kidding - are windows fairly easy to install? Have you built decks and installed windows too? How cool is this to have you to get advice from - this is my first deck I will build and never would I think of doing windows - but I will try if its not that hard! lol My fence is now fixed and stained - wow that power sprayer is worth every dollar it cost to rent including any extra stain it took to spray rather than roll or brush it on! The deck, windows and shed are coming up! Canada is giving back a tax credit for home improvements that are done in 2009 to a max of 1300 dollar on 10,000 dollars spent. So since they are overdue - I figure this is the year to get it done. The government is also promoting energy effecient funaces and AC and giving 1500 back on the tax return if done this year too. But anyways, the deck and new windows and new shed are the priority for my home improvements. I just finished planting flowers EVERYWHERE after getting a call yesterday that I am going to have some visitors fly into Canada end of July for a week visit! The rush is now on to make it beautiful! So I've talked my daughter into going fishing next weekend. I think she's interested mainly because I invited her boyfriend too.

I'm not going to make the mistake of trying to teach her how to cast a fly. Instead, I spent the afternoon today teaching her to make bait balls.

1 lb of chicken livers, pureed in a blender

1 small bottle of commercial "fish attractor"

5-6 cups of flour

enough water to make a stiff dough out of the mixture.

Once the dough has sat for an hour, pinch off small marble-sized balls, wrap them in nylon mesh bait bags, twist them shut and singe the opening with a lighter to keep them closed. Allow to sit, covered in a tight container for several hours to "ripen" before refrigerating.

We'll be fishing an area not too far from here that is populated with carp (upwards of 50 lbs), smallmouth, pike, channel catfish (up to 15 lbs) and the odd muskie. From experience I know that these baitballs will have fish swarming all over them. My plan is to have my daughter so busy she won't have time to get bored.

sounds fun Ron,ill have to try your bait mixture sometime,..i only use chicken livers and thread for channel, never got into doughbaits too much, yours sounds pretty good though.

i was too lazy to fry fillets tonihgt,so i broiled a couple of bass fillets, not bad.

thats cool that her bf goes with you 2,...my thing in relationships was the womans father and i got along great, hung out, plenty to talk about and work to do,...but the womans mother...well...that never went so well, didnt like each other much

There's not much really special about the bait recipe other than wrapping them, and of course making sure they're stinky. You can buy the little mesh squares to make the bags, or material from an old pair of panty hose works well too.

If I get any good pictures I'll be sure to add them. I'll be using my flyrod of course, and I'm looking forward to some action. I'm told that carp will take a nymph fished deep and slow; I've never caught a carp on a fly, so it will be a rush if I get one to take. I've never caught a channel cat on a fly either, and I'm not sure it can be done, but I certainly intend to try.

My only regret is that the water quality in that area is questionable, so although we are allowed to keep fish, we will be releasing anything we catch.

I wouldn't eat carp anyway, but they can grow to monstrous proportions. Here are some shots of a carp caught in Hamilton Harbour not long, in the 25 lb range. They can get twice that size!

Carp & catfish?

Find a dead animal, tie it to a cement block, throw it in a deep water spot.

For about a week it will attract every carp & catfish in the entire lake.

(Catfish are extremely fun to catch because they get HUGE and they fight like a bastard. Not much good except to throw back in the water, but kids scream, holler, yell, and have all kinds of fun when they catch one and try to bring it up. wink)

LOL....now carp on the other hand.....I used to shoot them off my line with my pistol rather than touch em.......LOL

Yes, Robbi, channel catfish are quite tasty, and not at all "muddy" like some cats are. Channel cats prefer cooler, clear water with rocky structure as opposed to the warm water, mud, silt and heavy vegetation that a lot of other catfish varieties inhabit.

As for carp, I'll catch them for the fun of it. There are people who will eat them, but I'm not one of them.

In any case, it is a myth that carp and channel cats are carrion eaters. Carp forage for small insects, crustacions and fish on the bottom (which is where the popular conception comes from). Channel cats are aggressive predators and can often be found in the same waters as walleye (aka pickerel) and smallmouth bass.

I think it is the smell, and/or the insects/creatures coming for the dead meat, that attracts the cats & carp.

Carp and catfish can be 'cleansed' for eating if you keep them alive for several days and feed them corn meal. Gets the dirt out of their system.

Blackened anything tastes GREAT, lol. Them cajuns can cook up blackened shoe leather and I'd eat it. wink

I'll take the fresh-water (or farm raised) bottom-feeding catfish (and properly prepared carp) over "living in their own fecal matter chicken" any day of the week.

The great american SCAM - chicken; chicken of this century has become the diseased pork of the pre-1960's

pork loin is now a healthy pristine alternative white meat while chickens eat, live, and walk in their own shidt - the chicken farmer cleans the "litter" (chicken shidt) out of the chicken-houses and spreads it untreated as manure/fertilizer in pastures where cows graze....

the cow is then slaughtered and in the farmer's "bender" to sell and make profit on every ounce of the cow, part of the cow is even ground up to create 'chicken-feed' - which the chickens once again eat, live, and walk in their own shidt (and the cycle begins again)

and thus, Mad-Cow Disease is born and carried through yet another cycle...

Dis' the phish.... eat that chicken breast, lol!

From a "good" lake - a lot of country'pholk around here "can" (preserve) carp and although I've never tried it, they all claim it tastes like canned salmon (which I don't like, I prefer fresh)

Anyone ever eat fried "Buffalo Ribs" (fish) ?? GOOD stuff, lol!

Nothing beats fresh salmon, Cristo. Especially if its still flopping when you fillet it and toss it on the cedar plank. I prefer Atlantic salmon over the Pacific varieties (both for angling and eating).

I've never tried carp, although there is a Chinese restaraunt here in town that has carp on the menu. Maybe I'll give it a try one day.

Carp is a "goldfish" (or vice-versa) - even a Koi

like any fish, it's safety, taste, tendancies, etc are effected by it's habitat

years ago, we had a place down on the south side of Lake of the Ozarks (Truman Lake) - Climax Springs, MO

We had a large concrete boat ramp that went both up to a driveway and a boathouse

We used to throw feed-corn down onto the boat ramp for the ducks and geese.... it wasn't long (a few months) before we could see the carp and catfish "swirling/rolling" where the boat ramp hit the water feeding on the corn that had slid or been washed down off the boat ramp

This led to the inevitable... every morning as we threw feed-corn down onto the boat ramp for WHAT USED TO BE THE ducks, the VERY LARGE carp and catfish would "wiggle" their way up 3 or 4 feet out of the water onto the boat ramp to get to the feed corn

and after about a year... fishing from our dock, you could catch a good size HEALTHY catfish or carp just by putting a single kernel of feed corn on a hook

some we kept and ate (fresh) but most we just laughed at because of the corn and tossed back them back to catch again

ahhhhhhhh BUFFALO FISH ribs!

http://www.fishnsteaks.com/index.php?page=View%20Product&title=Buffalo+Fish+Ribs

Buffalo Fish resemble carp, but have firm whiter meat and fewer bones

they are big enough to split down the middle, cut a "slab of (fish) ribs" - 5-6 rib bones joined together, batter it and fry it (of course, lol)

(see attached definition and recipes)

oops, sorry robbi...

no, it's definately not like eating a small fish ribs and all

the ribs are at a MINIMUM as long as your fingers and about as thick as a (thicker) tooth-pick

picture them like you would a slab of pork or beef ribs - but deep fried

No offense intended with the dead animal attracting fish idea, we used to do it all of the time as kids, loved fighting in those bigger fish.

And blackened Cajun cooked anything is indeed my favorite!

trying buffalo ribs is now on my list of things to do,it seems like ive heard them called "buffalo carp",i never knew they werent carp.

if the channel cats are small enough to cook the whole fillet(also like a steak, lol)otherwise theyre so big they have to be cut into cubes or strips and fried,...but when i get tired of frying it all the time, just to be different i'll lay it on aluminum foil, dice a bell pepper,an onion, throw on a fist size chunk of butter, and a whole bunch of garlic, wrap it tight in the aluminum foil, double wrapped often to keep it from leaking,it still will a bit, throw it in the oven for an hour at 375-450 degrees, ohhh it just melts in your mouth,i do the same with bass when i get tired of frying them and want a change.

Yea Robbie, we have great fishing here. Went to Lake Conroe yesterday. One of Texas's hottest lakes at the moment. We (4) caught 78 crappie in the 12-18" range. We fished early and late for bass. Not much luck, with the heat (100+) and no rain for a month. We caught around 15 bass. From 2 1/2 to 7lbs. Some monster bass have been caught here. But mostly between October and May. We released all the bass. Cleaned all the crappie and fish fry this coming Sat-Sun. Come on down!

robbi - don't you know the secret of fileting with an electric knife???

I had never heard of it until I moved to arkansas.... watched guys do 3-4 fish per minute

this video shows the same thing in what he labled "canadian style" for walleye and pike (eh - I guess they do it everywhere, lol)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3NxJnUKUts

(works the same basically on all fish)

For some fish, pike and walleye in particular, its a good idea to remove the Y-bones while filleting. Best method I'm aware of is on the link below.

Well, I never watched the video because I don't plan on eating pike! They are one block from my house but who wants to eat that when on the other side of the embankment is the Bow River (renowned fishing spot) with trout... and yet I have never fished there either! I bought a house near this beautiful river about 15 years ago and rarely even TAKE THE TIME to enjoy a walk through the park let alone stop to fish! Wow, I definitely need a Life Transplant!

robbi, first time I saw them being cleaned with an electric knife was arkansas and they were cleaning a "mess of crappie" lol

this guy cleaned/filleted about 1 every 10 seconds....

yeah, there was a little waste... but when you have 100 crappie... who cares, LOL!

(and pam? as I posted, it works with ANY fish... lol)

shop-wow,78 crappie,i dont think there is that many in any of the farm ponds i fish...wow,ive heard of people going to big lakes and catching huge #s of crappie, but so far havent done it,but i never have to worry about seeing other people either, lol

christo-i made my living with chainsaws for years, but the idea of an electric knife, especially while im filleting a fish just scares me to death, gonna go watch the utube video now.

Adam, most of my fishing is in farm ponds and private lakes too. "Tanks" here in Texas. I do enjoy it more also. Robbie, we were catching so many crappie that first we set a 10" min. limit and than a 15" min. limit on keepers. We did filet that "mess of crappie" with an electric knife. As with all the fish I clean now. As Cristo stated, it's fast, and we have to fillet for the small kids to enjoy.

one of the creeks where i go to draw water has a blue cat,hes small,7-9 lbs, they get at least 80,but hes always in the same logjam, hes not afraid of me at all,lol,...we have some blue cats in kansas, but i never see them, theyre not common ...part of me wants to grab him and put him in one of the ponds i fish, maybe find one thats overpopulated with small fish,...but...it wouldnt be able to reproduce,(unless they could interbreed with channel, lol)so i guess it wouldnt be right,...but i really enjoy looking at him right up close, hes always there whenever i go,its a prettyfish,...sooo blue and shiny, you can see through his tailfin,i suppose old blue will move on when the logjam clears up.

Jerimiah Adam Johnson!!! I laughed thinking about you and the street sign that was once there close to where you live... as I was stuck in 8 lanes of solid bumper to bumper traffic trying to get to a jobsite that is 45 miles away in the traffic that was travelling about 5 miles an hour and my time of over an hour got me just a few miles down the freeway and I was trying to estimate to the client how long it would take me to get there without the faintest idea how long the traffic jam was backed up to! Awwww... and you look at a fish where you "draw water" = the difference of heaven and hell!

Cristo, I "listened" to it for the first time last night!!! YIKES!!! lol

Well, spent the day fishing with my daughter and her boyfriend. And wouldn't you know it: she out-fished us! She'll be bragging about the 12 lb carp she hooked, fought and caught unassisted for the next year! In addition, she caught a multitude of sculpin (If you dislike carp, spend a few minutes with one of these slimy critters) and two decent white bass.

Me? Well I caught me a bunch of those slimy sculpins and a few white bass: that was about it.

hehe, Robbi. We were fishing the Desjardins Canal here in Hamilton. Its a 19th Century canal that once allowed boat traffic into Cootes Paradise from Hamilton Harbour. At one end they have a carp barrier that prevents large fish from entering Cootes Paradise, and the canal itself is no longer used for boat traffic. But the water is quite deep and at the point we were fishing it is about 100 feet across.

The shore of the canal is accessible only from one side, and wouldn't you know it, the fish were busy on the far side, busting up baitfish. I couldn't quite reach them with my flyrod. But I tied a yellow spoon on my daughter's line and told her to cast to the other shore. Most of her casts fell short, but a few landed right in the thick of things, and wouldn't you know it, but after about a dozen casts she yelled "dad, I think I caught something!"

Yahooo! Just got home from the stompin Stampede!!! Oh my gosh... the crowds of apprx 3 million that come each year to join me in the lines for BBQ beef on a bun, chili and cheese homemade fries, mini doughnuts served piping hot, and chocolate fudge is only one of the bazillion balanced meal choices there with entertainment EVERYWHERE!!! Time to find the bottle Tums... bbl! wink (PS Wow... those cowboys are crazy tough in the competitions - and I sit in the midst of it whining about hobbling around with a broken toe and some pulled muscles/legaments! LOL I don't know how they are living let alone walking after those rodeo events!)

So, summer is now officially in full swing since the Stampede city is yahooing from one end to the other!

I need a "Whine Room" NOT a "Suck-it-up Cowboy Room"

Flower,

How fun! I love rivers! What grade of whitewater were you on? I have only done 4 - too conservative=scared to go any higher - but it's still a blast at 4! I live close to the mountains so we get lots of options of all grades to experience whitewater rafting at every level! Last time I went - due to an inexperienced guide (that was paid full price!) I was swept over a water falls OUTSIDE OF THE RAFT and was lodged between boulders at the bottom of the falls - under the water - with the weight of the falls pouring on top of me! Notice I said the last time... hmmmm wonder why?!?! LOL

"and you dont have any cowboy in ya?" careful how you answer that Pamela, say no and it will be "well,do you want some?"lol

i dont think id have a license very long if i drove in 8 lanes of traffic,im pretty used to being the only one on the road.

turns out ol' blue has a girlfriend,so...i could grab both of them to put in a pond, but probably wont,...my daughter loves him...she started talking about wanting to be a mermaid, live in a big clamshell, and spend her time swimming with ol' blue,i just looked at her and scratched my head.

the ruger is way too big for her,she cant even hold it up,so cant wait till she opens the youth model baikal 20 gauge,lol..it fits better.

took shilo to the first meeting of the beagle gundog club, now called eastern ks beagle club,i joined, made some aquaintances who will soon be friends, seems like a real good bunch of people, looking forward to the hunts and getting to know them better, strangely enouhg...the clubs dont shoot the rabbit on the hunts(are you happy pamela?),decided pups long name for his papers this weekend"crooked creek shilo"

hmmnn...never been whitewater rafting either, lots of stuff to do yet,lol

a thought occured to me about the electric knife,in the video it appeared to me to be a reciprocating saw, like a milwaukee saw-zal or a dewalt but for the kitchen,..so why couldnt you just hit the blade release button like the saws, and change blade sizes according to fish, like a 4" a 8" blade etc.?

also can you run the blades upside down like the saws?

just wondering

Now wriggling one's bait should only be done when the target has it in sight. Doing it beforehand is solo wriggling and while that can be fun, its just not the same.

Pam..

Your last experience sounds scary.. It was only class 2 and 3. There were 6 of us and only 2 of us have ever rafted before.. I love rafting and have done it many places in the world.. I have done quite a few class 5's.. One of my favorite was going over a 20ft waterfall in New Zealand!

WOW flower... how brave of you! Woohoo girl! The waterfall that I fell down (thrown against the boulders) was about a 12' drop... not a fun drop with bazallion gallons of water coming down on top of me trapping me between the rock under the water. However, I survived it and now tuck it into my memoirs of the wild kind (I would go rafting again... it's a blast!)

Mysttt... "If you have cheese... you have choice!" is one of the cheese industrys slogans here! YES... I would love some cheese with my whine... especially if it brings me some choice! LOL

And now my comment to the above two men...

Oh yes, Pam. She was smiling ear-to-ear. So was I. She caught it on a light spinning rig spooled with 6 lb test line. It was an achievement that any angler would be proud of.

Robbi, as much as I like Mike (my daughter's b/f), he may well be the most inept fisherman in the world. On Friday before we went out, I filled his spool with 220 yards of fresh line. On Sunday he had to stop fishing because he only had about 10 feet left. How he lost 220 yards of line is beyond me! He said that he lost some every time he snagged and had to break off. . . but still!

LOL.........Even my girls don't go through that much line in a season.....LOL. I've taught them how to catch the spool and pull......smile

But, I don't know, given time (if he's gonna be around for some time) he could taught and learn to love fishing as much as we do.......

got a rabbit today to train shilo with a little bit, wanted to get him started before i threw it in the frezer, put a long cord on it,let him out, said shilo!"tally-ho" and drug it around in small circles,to make a short game, and introduction to rabbit,he took an interest, started chasing and pouncing at it,lol, was proud to see him dragging his nose on the ground, played at it for 10 minutes, and quit with the pup all excited and wanting more, put the rabbit in the freezer,i ought to be able to use it for a long time if i only get it out for 10 minute sessions, shilo's first lesson...was pleased with him

Sounds promising, Adam. Another thing you might do is get your daughter involved by letting her go for a run dragging the bunny, then seeing how Shilo tracks it. Should be fun for both of them.

Shop, I think I'm going to get Mike one of those heavy stump-pulling rods, a salt-water reel and a spool of 50 pound test. That way if he snags a sunken submarine he'll be able to pull it ashore.

Seriously, I suppose its partially my fault. I tied his knots and for terminal gear I use what is called a "mini-bimini hitch." Its adopted from salt-water fishing and properly tied is the only knot I know of that is stronger than the line its tied with.

http://www.floridasportsman.com/HowTo/0501_sem_light_tackle/

http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-tie-a-bimini-twist

The second link is a video that shows how to tie a full-sized bimini hitch (or twist), but you can tie it with mono, flouro and even spiderwire in small sizes too simply by reducing the number of twists to about 7 or 8.

Ok, the Model A tour to Parliament Hill in Ottawa has been completed. Interesting trip with my 2 cents given to the Senate.

One of the Senators offered an awful lot of money to buy the "A". Had to turn him down. What am I going to do; walk home?

Now heading south of the 49th parallel and around the lakes.

Ron 092, we'll be in your area this weekend. You buying lunch? *l*

Hey H_W, yesterday my kids and I went to the local library and in the parking lot (far, far away from the front door) was a Model A! I swung around and drove past it rrrreeeeeeaaaaalllll sssssllllllooooowwwwww so my kids could get a good look. Whatta beaut. (I couldn't let them get out & have a look - my kids can't help but "look" with their fingers.)

Ah, yes the "look" with their fingers issue. After returning to the "A" one time, some kids decided that running up the fenders looked like a good idea.

But the worst are some adults with their belt buckles, jacket zippers and the studded purses.

One of my magnetic signs says, "Unless you are NUDE, please don't TOUCH!"

I was taken up on the offer once. *l*

Skip the cracks, in the street

Don't drink too many of those beers while you're in there, HW, or you might meet God. (She'll be the one at the end of the bar that looks good BEFORE closing time) tounge

Just got in from a great afternoon. Met H_W and MOSTess. GREAT people; thoroughly enjoyable company! The beer was cold, the food was good and a photo of the setting could easily be confused with an seaside restaurant in Greece or Italy.

Oh, and the car. . . that Model A is absolutely gorgeous.

Once photos have been approved I'll let you know!

LOL Adam. I'm in Southern Ontario. . . we're actually further south than many US states including MN, Wisconsin, most of Michigan, N and S Dakota, Montana, Washington and Oregon. In fact, we're almost at the same latitude as Northern California.

Although its been a cool summer here so far, temperatures in July and August often reach into the 30s to low-40's Celcius. Thats 85-86 Farenheit on the low side and around 100-105 on the high side. Perfect swimsuit weather!

Hey Ron! Great meeting you too. Interesting conversation and the patio on the lake was a great stop for lunch and brews. Girls in bikini's and flip flops? I didn't even notice *looks innocently at MOSTess"

Update on enojoying the season: Patio dinner at one of favourite spots in Niagara on the Lake, then a long wait the next morning at the border crossing in the rain. Customs officials have no respect for vintage vehicles. Cleared up for the our stay at the Belhurst Castle in Geneva, NY and we are exploring the waterfront pubs in the Fingers Lakes area, before heading to Vermont.

What's goin on in Mingles "Rumour Mill" this week? H_W is married to MOSTess? Is this news from a long time ago or is it recently or is it even so? LOL Congratulations (if it's in order... meaning if it is recent!)

The season this week in the life and times of ME... I went to the mountains, did some canoeing, toured around the Province (showing it off to a few folks who have never been here before) brought them in the back country 4 wheeling ("quading" in my language) took them kayaking, stayed up way too late every night and kept the house spotless the whole time as we dashed in and out of it! Whew... they left 1 hour ago to catch their flights back to their homes and as we were walking out the door the phone rang - my son and his partner are off to the hospital with a week over due baby that thinks today or tomorrow (???) will be a good day to have a bday on!

Pass me a tissue... I am about to see my lil grandbaby!!! smile

The photos I posted over the weekend are up and approved. I'm not going to leave the pics of H_W's car up forever, since after all, it is HIS car, but do take a moment to admire them. He has every right to be proud of such a fine automobile.

H_W, once again, it was a true pleasure to meet both you and MOSTess. I hope the rest of your tour goes well.

By the way, I said swimsuits and flip-flops. . . not sure I specified bikinis. LOL

Just got back from the Festival of Friends, which is one of the major local festivals in my area. This year local musicians made an attempt at the Guinness world record for largest guitar ensemble. We won't know for a day or two what the unofficial word is, and it will take longer for the official decision, but it was a lot of fun. I posted a video of it on Youtube:

Some of you are having such fun!!! NICE! I am relating to Robbi more than the rest of you these days! lol

(Robbie... my littlest grandson is my third grandchild - all boys - same family - MY son now has 2 sons and a stepson making me "nana" 3 times! It was awesome for me to see and hold him BUT an added bonus to the day was when I arrived the nurses told me that only grandparents and siblings of the new baby were allowed in as visitors... I said I am the grandmother and the nurse said "oh my gosh I thought you were the mom's sister!" I told her I would send a check to her in the mail! lol)

It is so nice when someone mistakes your age in a good way. I was told today that I couldn't have an almost 22 year-old daughter at my age. When I asked the person how old she thought I was she guessed 30-ish.

Left the Belhurst Castle for Watkins Glen raceway. They would not let me on the track as I'm certain they were intimidated once they saw my powerful 40 hp engine with the original and completely "stock" exhaust manifold.

Cecelia the "A" was challenged by some of the steep inclines as we headed east to the Green Mountains of Vermont. She performed well and we made it in time for the Hemmings Motor News Model A Ford calendar photoshoot. Later.....

Had time make a beer run where I was carded to purchase. Talk about making one's day! Continuing to explore our favourite state.

lol H_W ,"with the complete stock exhaust maniold"

ok,im not arguing with you here H_W,i believe you if you say so...but...the idea of that being a stock exhaust manifold rather than aftermarket shorty header is just inconceivable to me,consider the common cars and trucks of the 60s,70s,80s and 90s,they all had roughly the same common, restrictive, heavy, exhaust manifold, the only way to get a highflow, twist tube, shorty header identical to what is on your car was to buy aftermarket,so...if they were stock way back then, why not later?especially in the heyday of 1969-71 musclecar years? dont get mad,im not calling you a liar, and im not saying you dont know what your talking about,...its just hard to imagine that your stock header was more advanced than all those that came later for decades,it doesnt seem like the later heavy blocky cast iron exhaust manifolds would be cheaper to mass produce...i just dont get it

im taking 2 vacation days starting tommorow, this is my weekend off call,so i get a 4 day weekend, yay! going to pick up daughter when i get off work tonight and plan on taking her fishing and shooting tommorow, then going to kansas city to cabellas, childrens museum, maybe oceans of fun, worlds of fun,and the imago dei gallery,i still havent made reservations for lodging there,or called and made contact with the places were going to visit to tell them im coming, guess there is going to be some last minute scrambling,lol....im really excited thouhg.

was hoping to stay at great wolf lodge, but looked it up,it was 3-500 dollars for 24 hours, forget that,i figure the gasoline alone is going to be 150$ to take my truck.

have a little car that gets 42 mpg,and better on the highway, but its really uncomfortable to sit in very long, coupled with no ac and radio, well take the truck...wish i had a front end guard on this truck, guess ill just swerve out of peoples way and be extra careful not to run over anything

I'll try to get some extra copies of the Model A Ford calendar, Ron.

In regards to the engine and manifold, there are many photos of it online. The one you posted Ron is the correct manifold but has an incorrect carb, sediment bowl and other modifications. http://www.modelaparts.net/cut-a.gif is a good representation of the Model A Ford engine, Adam.

The judges at the Stowe Show in Vermont this weekend, must have felt our little "A" was original, as we took home a nice award.

Met some great people and so far, It's been a great trip.

As much that all this talk about HWs manifold is very exciting (and that is all I shall say on that subject), lets get back to what is really important.

What HW neglected to mention was that 2 days after the carding event (and really it was an event), I went into a store in the same area to by some more alcohol. When she asked ME for ID, I told her you have got to be kidding me She responded that ANYONE purchasing alcohol or tobacco must show ID. So grey hair, wrinkles and canes no exception. I debated on whether to mention this to HW or not ---- of course I could not resist. Oh well, 2 days of feeling 19 again (or whatever the drinking age is south of the border) is better than no days :-)

A quick update. . . our attempt at a world record for the world's largest guitar ensemble fell short. We needed 1803 and we came up with 1726. But it is a new Canadian record and (I think) a new North American record.

On another note, my Youtube video of the attempt has the most views of all the vids posted of the event! Over 570 views so far!

Been thinking about off-grid energy ideas... basically I need to be able to gen enough power to run the a/c at least part of the day. Getting hot water is pretty easy, but enough power to do air conditioning is an issue without using a powered generator. I'm thinking a low speed wind generator... trying to do it on the cheap is somewhat of a show stopper, and doing it in an urban neighborhood is also an issue. If I ever get anything going, I'll put up some pics.

I've been reading a small bit, and downloading movies.

I cannot wait for summer to end, here! Soooooon.....

Keerok... yes, the urban codes can poss problems that the rural areas don't need to deal with. However, it is going to have to deal with the upcoming 'green technologies such as solar, wind power and geothermal real fast like due to the push and need from folks like yourself. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Thanks Robbi and Ron :-) I was referring to the general term "ANYBODY" purchasing tobacco or alcohol had to show ID, kind of burst my bubble before it had a chance to even grow, so of course had to burst HW's.

Interesting protocol in the US compared to here, much tighter which is not necessarily a bad thing - but come on, some common sense that when you look at someone "our" age, do we really have to hold up a line up to dig up ID and have a cashier spend 10 minutes trying to find the DOB on an Ontario Drivers Licence?

mlady - Cheers :-)

Keerok, I don't know what you have for resources but a few years ago I helped a guy source out supplies to take his summer cottage off the grid. He installed a series of 45 watt solar panels on the roof, through a charge controller to a bank of deep-cycle marine batteries (the gel type) and hooked them all up to 6000 watt power inverter. He spent a bundle, but his cottage was off the grid.

kee...what about energy from a wood stove run throuhg a boiler system?

ive had friends whove done that, they ddint use the boiler for anything but additional radiant heat throughout their homes, but ive wondered about the possible extra uses from the energy and pressure from various boiler systems heated by wood.

Ron, my resources aren't up to doing a full-scale bank of solar panels with batteries, although I do have a small inverter/battery unit which has come in handy a few times. I'm starting reeeeeal small.

What I'd like to do is avoid the expensive commercial stuff and rig my own (read: cheap) wind/sun powered home.

A stirling engine type of device, powered by the sun would be nice, I'm surprised something isn't available commercially. (maybe it is, and I haven't found it yet...)

To do wind here, I need a low speed unit I can have practically at ground level, they aren't going to go for tall towers here and I have tall trees that would block it anyways. I don't even know if this will be workable, I'm sort of ignoring the experts who seem to want big, tall, high speed stuff.

Adam, I've seen a boiler system like that in Michigan and if I were still there, that would work fine for a while... all that wood available. I'm sure a way to get some electricity out of it could be devised.

Hmmmmm....Cimm and a bicycle... or maybe two bicycles *Chai?* I have this vision of hamsters in a wheel. grin

i always kicked around the idea of running copper tubing throuhg the fire box on my woodstove, which would go through my hot water heater, and possibly pipes under my floors around wall bases, keeping my floors cozy on bare feet, one of the fears people often have with boiler type sytems is pressure bursting,...if the pop off vave quits i guess, surely there must be some use for the excess pressure thouhg, and if more pressure was required to run whatever, couldnt one just put a popoff that released at a lower pressure into whatever device one was running?

I'll keep y'all informed.

"one of the fears people often have with boiler type sytems is pressure bursting"

One of my main problems to solve is control systems to keep pressures under control, fan speeds under control, batteries from getting too much juice, etc. I know most of this is already done, but I cannot afford to pay for this type of stuff at the moment. I want to do it myself. Someday I'll get it done...

A popoff relief that bled into another subsystem is an excellent idea!!

I think you could mechanically control speed. That would eliminate any added electronic controls for that. For boiler type applications dual relief valves is always a preference. For use with a wood stove or alternate fuel furnace they have an item called a hot water maker to use to make hot water heat. You would need a circulator pump or pumps and zone controls if you want to get fancy. They now make good plastic flexable poly tubing specifically for hot water loop applications.

Kee, years ago a cousin of mine, who is quite the tinkerer, built a greenhouse-like box on the roof of his house. He lined the interior with sheet metal and painted it all black. He then used about 200 yards of black garden hose coiled up inside it to produce hot water for the house, and hot air ducts to provide hot air for his house. It didn't solve all of his heating and hot-water needs, but it certainly took up some of the slack.

Kee, I don't know if this is a scam (probably is) but this link popped up in an ad on my Facebook. Claims to ba a way to build solar energy systems for a faction of the usual cost. Thought you might want to take a look anyway:

Home Depot had solar panels for $300. Next year we will be doing solar. This year is a redo of all the electrical.

You would not believe the crap wiring the original owner did. Only the bathroom was grounded. So been really busy here.

Thank you all for the ideas!

I think the roof unit (with hose) would be a good start. Even in winter, I think it might save a little on heating bills.

I gotta look those solar panels up, that seems like a pretty good price...

And for the morning enjoyment, I did a bike ride. And am now sweating rivers... and it's only 75 out. The humidity is twenty points higher, though. smile

We have completed our New England tour and returned to Ontario, putting just a little over 1900 miles on "Cecelia", the Model A Ford. Before leaving the Fingers Lakes area of New York, we toured Cornell University in Ithaca. Great campus.

The Hemmings Motor News Cruise-In in Bennington, Vermont was packed with vintage cars cruising in all night. A sight to see.

The Car Show in Stowe, Vermont was well attended with almost 800 rare vintage and classic entries. While at the show, we were parked next to a distinguished gentleman who won "Best in Show", with a 1904 curved-dash Oldsmobile. We struck up a friendship, which led to an invite to his home and viewed his collection of rare "Brass-Era" automobiles (1901-1914), some which were only one example known to be left in existence. Quite a treat!

We took part in the "Parade of Classics" that travels down Mountain Road lined with appreciative spectators and ending up past the reviewing stand on Stowe's Main Street. Fun time. An evening street dance followed with a few participants reinforcing the theory that combining alcohol and dancing can make you look like a wanker.

Spent a week traveling the backroads of Vermont and New Hampshire, before taking the ferry to Plattsburg, then on to Cornwall (stocking up on Duty-Free cigars) and home.

Stowe has great restaurants. Good thing the "A" has running boards so we could work off some of our excesses.

After a couple of weeks rest, we have a few more tours planned, before we stop "enojoying the season".

You are going to stop enojoying the season ? I plan on continuing to enjoy this season, and the next and the one after. So much to do so little time. Fall colours tours in PEC, or maybe even back to Vermont, winter fire snuggling and the all important task of making the perfect fish and chips and finding the perfect pairing with beer or wine, date nights, snuggling by the fire, Packers games with Packer snackers, saving the world, testing the 500+ recipes Ive been pulling out of magazines for the past year, planning next years tours. No time to stop enojoying *smile*

Robbi - Hope you and Jules have a fabulous time at the cabin, sounds purrrfect

Was a great weekend!! We didn't get out of town on Friday night as planned, but, left early Saturday. I worked on the cabin a bit since a tree fell and damaged the corner of the porch roof. The weather was beautiful!! Since we had a pretty moist summer this year we could have a fire in the pit outside which we did after dark. A fire, Jules, the stars and the creek running by a mere 10 yards away. It's like heaven without the sacrifice, smile. Then inside, a fire, snacks, reading, relaxing. An old movie and bedtime. Sunday Jules got up and made the obligatory bacon, eggs and toast. Then she made me go fishing......LOL. Nice walk on the stream, couple of small fish....one nicer brown that I kept.

Then we packed up and came home to reality!! smile

We're probably going back up next Sunday for a day trip so I can take materials for the roof that I didn't have with me and finish that project. And I need to make a handrail for the the stairs going to the little loft.

went to kansas city today to meet a girl for a lunch/dinner date,at an upscale cosmopolitan shopping district that had a name i couldnt pronounce,as i slowly wandered looking at all the big buildings and activity,i was surprised when a woman (not my date)approached me and said "excuse me...where are you FROM?" dang...i felt kind of out of place, but hate to think i looked it too,to stick out like a sore thumb or something,i was dressed in normal attire for going to a city,...i replied "im from madison,an oil and cattle town a few hours south of here,we have a few hundred people living there" i dont remember what all she said,i felt kind of awkward, didnt want my date to walk up and see me talking to another woman,...but when the women left...she said..."you look out of place here, like you come from a place that still has values"

i guess i just cant help but wonder what values look like...

During our "Vermont or Bust" tour last month, it seemed that "Cecelia" the Model A wasnt climbing the hills like she did before. MOSTess swears she hasn't gained any weight (she exercises a lot), and we ruled out that it was Obama's fault.

So a compression test revealed low engine compression. Spent last week pulling off the head which revealed a burnt valve, which I quickly replaced. Walla, good compression.

Spent this weekend finding the steepest inclines in Ontario's lake country and now she flattens the hills out.

Cecelia's ready to challenge all comers. When's the next NASCAR? *l*

I helped remove the hood and head and provided "Water, malt and hops" I also willing went along on "test drives" as long as they involved stops at country stores, patios and ice cream parlours. I NEED to exercise a lot, sitting, driving, stopping, eating, drinking and tasting different ice creams can play havoc on the figure as well as Cecilia's ability to climb hills :-)

Yes, Robbi...a sense of accomplishment. The old cars are so easy to work on. I would be lost trying to fix even minor issues on modern iron.

I bet if Tony Stewart's crew knew I that I wasn't developing my full 40hp, they would have let me compete at Watkins Glen, eh?

Yesterday was Jules Birthday. A friend of mine just bought his own airplane a couple of months ago and wanted to take us for a trip. So we flew to Valier, a small town north west of Great Falls and had dinner at a place called The Lighthouse and flew home. Excellent! Good people, good food and good location. This upcoming Saturday is International Model A Day (not a statutory holiday dammit), which is another excuse to hit the road with "Cecelia".

Do you think the government is coming in here to read what you think about them? LOL You are chatting with folks who had nothing to do with you personally nor with your enormous anger issues. If you post any further ingorant posts in here you will be deleted. Hey Ron, atleast ya have seen a deer, less then a week left in bow season here and have seen nothing but does, the big bucks are staying in hiding and the elk moved out of this area 2 years ago.

Hey Frogman, wich beer would that be? seeing as how Oregon is the micro brew capital of the world.

LOL Robbie!!!

Well for the love of life... summer came and left when I wasn't looking and autumn is here! Leaves are changing to yellow although the weather is still wonderful. The deck is in the same state as the spring with exception that the concrete footings are in. DANG IT! Work was too busy this summer (thank goodness) and life issues kept the deck on the low priority scale. However, I have harvested most of my little organic garden and now the apple season is in full swing so the canning pot, mason jars, pie plates and dehydrator will be gracing my kitchen decor for the next several weeks! Autumn... my favorite time to go to farmer's markets and to smell the scents of the harvest season! (pre-preparation for items on the "Be Thankful" list at thanksgiving!) smile

lol shop! i just saw that post, ill get some pics of belle, the poor neglected dog that i dont love, lol.

ive been putting up hay, cutting and splitting wood for winter, and working 12-14 hour days,im killing wells right now so that they will never produce oil again, normally you dont want to do that, lol,a gas pipeline company has bought up oil leases, and doest want the oil production interfering with their natural gas,i take care of some companies that produce gas and oil wells, but this customer isnt one of them, killing good oil wells is new to me.

well he was a decent sized deer but i turned almost 20 pounds of meat into the butcher shop to have turned into peperoni and summer sausage. so i would say i got almost 60 pounds all together. we got those small ones on the west side of Oregon Kee, there called black tail deer.

lovely Lisa,awww...how sweet,yes..i do need need a massage! i'll be right over wink

hunter- congrats on the buck, dang, you need to hunt in kansas, even the does are huge here, people come from all over the us to hunt our whitetail.id like to find somewhere close to kansas to hunt wild boar, oklahoma is closest i guess.

shop-ok man, pics of your dog are up now, shes ready to get sent to texas, and when she comes inside she just lays by the fire, you wont even know shes there

robbi-yeah,its a dang crime how work gets in the way of fishing, want to fish/camp with daughter somemore, but i think its getting to chili here now for anything but channelcat at night.hunting season...started smoking again a year ago, think it would make it pretty hard to stalk them now,i remember taking a smoker hunting with me once, and how it irritated me ,thouhg he didnt smoke while he followed me,it kind of ruined the hunt, till i put him on the other side of the woods.i kind of hate to go hnting smelling like smoke, even using acorn scent on myself.dang..now i wanna go deer hunting...

That's a fine Dog Adam! Looks like a Texas Dog. But I really think your daughter would be heartbroke if you sent her to me though. Make absolutly sure first. I lost my Dog a year ago. Wasn't going to get another. Like Cristo stated, it hurts too bad when you let them go. But I miss the companionship when I do get home.

well dang shop, sorry about your dog,i ddint know, well belle would probably be perfect for you then,i dont think hannah will mind, she likes anything new,she likes shilo, the beagle pup,and she loses interest in things pretty quick, but if it will break her heart,i wont send belle, ill check with hannah first, belle is a good looking dog,but she was the runt,i thouhgt she would be feisty and fearless, but shes shy and passive, shes absolutely trustworhty around children, but she doesnt kill snakes,or...well she is only good for a pet, just to look at and feed and pet,or whatever one does, lol i cant handle a dog that wont work at something, doesnt have a job,im not a pet person, lol

Hey Adam, good luck with thr field trials. I'm sure you and Shilo will have fun.

I've been "playing with" guitars for ages. Now I want to learn how to play seriously. My fingers are hurting and I'm not sure I'm progressing yet. But time will tell.

lol...why of course we will shilo smile

today was a good hunt,i got there 3 minutes late for registering shilo for the hunt,so he couldnt run,but i handled a brace of dogs for an elderly couple that couldnt get in there, was an all day deal, wore me out,had a great time, the car didnt break down.

met more good people,...one of the judges i met was from missouri,he had over 850 trophies for his beagles, including grandchampion of the united states, his dogs were well known as the best all over i guess,...anyway...i sent shilo home with him for 2 weeks,i felt bad coming home without shilo, felt kind of sad for the pup,but im excited about the opportunity for him to be worked for 2 weeks by the best, either he'll work or he wont,i have high hopes thouhg,...poor little belle is lonely outside without him now thouhg...im almost tempted to bring her in the house for awhile, lol

Hey, I just had fresh salmon last night - cooked with fresh dill and lemon with warmed cream cheese pieces and course veggies from my garden... yummm.

Well the snow has left us for a day or two so I can try to finish up pruning all the outside plants etc. The poor deck became the last priority this year and it will now be next springs project - but I did get sod removed and the ground at a proper elevation sloping away from the foundation and the concrete footings in and the ledger board up and some drainage weeping tile and gas line in - before I stopped. Dang - I so much wanted to have the last raised garden box built to plant in the early spring but I need the deck in before that can go in. There is the possibilities of waiting for the snow to cover the whole mess of a backyard and sell it as is! LOL

The word I got is that wild salmon is the only kind safe to eat. The farm raised are loaded with PCP and such like.

Great - so now I can add PCP to the list of chemicals that are spayed on everything we eat and soon we either explode from the chemical reactions or we are preserved forever to live with all the unfinished projects lurking around just whispering their tortureous words of procrastination! lol

Parnell is up in northwest mo - near the iowa/nebraska/kansas tri-border area (almost due north of KC) - I go through there when I go see family up in iowa

staley's is a good kennel - well at least they aren't listed as a "puppy-mill"

LOTS of amish in that area - for some reason, that makes for a great environment...

yeah, the amish are my favourite people in the world,i remember a mennonite girl,(mennonites are like amish but more modern, they drive cars, etc.)she was beautiful, full of life, good friend,i would have happily married her,but she moved to china,to teach english, and help the poor.

i find alot of kinship with the amish, and feel i relate to them more than i can modern society,i wholeheartedly admire their values and way of life. they care for the ground they work, they live sustainably in every way.

sometimes amish men and boys will come to the oilfield as roustabouts for cash to pay the government, just for a day or a project, and then they try tobacco,lol..smoking and chewing.

they always wave when i drive by and signal me to honk my horn, their children are the happiest children ive ever seen in my life, walking barefoot with baskets picking fruit on the side of the road, the biggest sweetest smiles youve ever seen, they will do anything to help their non amish neighbors,...yeah...i think theyre about the best people in the world

yeah ..the thing about staleys is,hes not in it for the money,he is a very ethical breeder,he doesnt make a profit that i can see,but he doesnt need the money, lol.

his dogs should sell for over a thousand dollars,he sells them cheap because he can,and he doesnt breed many, hes only charging me 25$ a week and 2$ a day for food, and my dog will be worked everyday, alone and with the highest ranked field champions,he will sell a pup for 200$,thats just crazy.and he wont sell or give away his culls,to protect breed integrity and his own name

well...shilo flunked out of hunting school, went to pick him up today,he was there a week longer than planned, showed signs,but...just not a hunter,he even made friends with the tame rabbit i guess, why do i always get the pacifist dogs?!!!argggghhhhhh

im buying a proven dog named jughead, excellent bloodline, bluetick beagle, not pretty like shilo, but hes a worker, from champion parents, ive seen him run in the champion class, looking forward to getting him on december 19th at the next field trial,

i cant handle an animal that wont produce, about the only thing that bothered me more in adult life was my divorce, but a dog that wont work is a close second,i guess life is pretty good though when those are the only 2 things that really bother you,lol

ill make sure shilo gets a good home for someone who just wants a mouth to feed, and a dog to spoil.

met a woman who has 5 cats...omg!!! what is with that? thats some serious baggage,lol...people get animals...bring them in the house..then yell at them and stress over them like misbehaving children,to heck with that...ok..thats the end of my blog-rant,i feel better now smile

LOL @ "serious baggage" - It's nice to know there is at leason ONE other person who thinks like me on that topic!

Well it's mignight and the last batch of the bazillion apples (160 lbs) just went into the two canners going and then I am finished canning the apple preserves that I make each November to give in a basket with fancy cheeses and crackers at Christmastime. Next - the Christmas baking and then on Nov 27... THE CHOCOLATES!!! Oh my gosh - I will take a pic of them and post them for you all to envy yourselves into a chocolate fix! LOL

Don't give up on a dog that won't hunt; Teach them to drive.

LOL@ "elventyhundred lady bugs" - we are infested with them this year and I have no idea why. I've never seen more of them. I was inspecting a house that hasn't been in use for a bit - and opened up the windows to find nests of them - hundrends of those little cute things all of a sudden weren't cute anymore. (However, my 4 yr old grandson has a jar called their house and is having a blast collecting them and putting them in their "home" )

LOL @ eleventyhundred lady bugs, too cute myst. I don't know what you all have where you are, but someone told me those yellow and orange ones are some kind of Japanese beetle that doesn't belong on this side of the planet. And in certain conditions, those things bite!!! So keep your shorts on if outside, myst...

guamgalincali, my condolences to you and your family.

WOW... The season has changed without me noticing. Last night I saw folks on my street have their Christmas lights on and I had to wonder what happened to summer! This week (and/or next) will be focused on decorating for the holidays. Of course, "our" Thanksgiving is long over with and so Christmas is now the focus. So... now I am looking for new recipes for Christmas dessert... dinner is always the traditional turkey dinner but dessert is always a new one each year... any suggestions?

Observation... those folks never took their Christmas lights down, lol...?

Pamela, can I eat you for dessert after dinner? wink That would be a new one this year.

Also - I just returned from talking with a client who hates Mondays. No matter what happens, this client hates the day.

So, I explained that she was pre-planning to hate 1/7 of her life, whether the day goes good or not. And that every day is actually a good day if you 'get' to do the things in life you want to do, because there are a lot of people who can't do the things they want to do.

Anyhow - don't pre-plan to hate 1/7 of your life. Enjoy the day! wink

The Model A touring season has come to an end for this year and what a season it was.

Made new friends, met a few "Minglers" and put over 10,000 miles on "Cecelia" this summer traveling the US and Canada.

It's time to prepare the ol' car for four months winter storage and hibernation.

LOL... all I wonder is if that was a Canadian (more specifically an Albertan) farmer they were filming in 1929 out there in his field.

Pam

Considering your industrious work ethic, you are kinda like the farmer you referenced....a person outstanding in her field.....
